Dishonest and Rude I hired Smooth Move People to pack and move my household items less than two miles. The owner, Greg Rivelli, quoted packing/moving labor costs, then demanded more than double that “estimate” after the move. His employees caused more than $1,000 of damage to my property, then he blamed me for not supervising his crew as they loaded the truck. It was more than 10 months before Greg arranged to repair my broken washer and dryer. The “Estimate.” When I first contacted Smooth Move People, I asked Greg how much packing and moving would cost. He asked me how large my home was and whether it was furnished sparsely, average or more than average. After answering his questions, Greg told me that the job would require two men one day to pack, and two men one day to move. He asked me to move all clothing, electronics, artwork and glass table tops. Prior to moving day, I moved those items AND a medium sized U-Haul truck full of property. This significantly reduced the job that Greg’s crew had to do. Two men showed up on packing day, but quit early when they ran out of boxes. (Greg had assured me that they always brought extra boxes to avoid this problem) The next day, two men showed up in one truck which was completely disabled when the front axle broke. Another truck arrived a few hours later. One of the men told me that a third man was coming to help with the move, and that I would not be charged for his time. At 11:30 pm, the man in charge of the move told me that they had not finished moving all my property. He showed me a cellphone picture of my garage full of items, and told me that it would take another three hours to complete the move. (I moved those items myself at a later date). Then, he asked me to pay the Bill of Lading which charged me for their meal break time and the time spent waiting when their truck broke down. When I objected, he reluctantly reduced the charges by two hours. More importantly, he told me that Greg regularly underestimates moving services when a customer calls, then blames his employees when the customer complains. A few weeks later, Greg demanded that I pay the full bill PLUS labor for the third man called to help on moving day. Including these demands, total labor charges for the job would’ve been $2,352. Total labor charges based on Greg’s “estimate” were only $1,160. I later learned what Greg already knew, that a moving estimate is not binding unless the mover has examined the contents of your home. Damages Many items were damaged during the move, but my main concern was getting my washer and dryer repaired. (Both units required expensive control boards).At first, Greg admitted that the appliances were damaged because his men overloaded the truck. But later, he blamed me for not preventing his men from overloading the truck. (I didn’t know that was my job). Six days after the move, I hand delivered a repair estimate for $842 to Greg and asked him to promptly OK the repairs. He refused. Greg insisted that he could find cheaper parts and have his handyman install them. He was angry and frustrated that I would not agree to install the parts myself. Greg would only agree to professional installation if I would cover all labor costs over $100. It took Greg more than 10 months to obtain the parts and arrange for the repairs. And, the washer control board is not under warrantee because of Greg’s decision to go cheap. I had to constantly email Greg asking for progress reports. His replies were angry and incoherent. Several times, he promised to deliver the parts, then failed to do so. I complained to ODOT, but they were no help at all. No, this was not a “smooth move.” Greg lowballed the “estimate.’ Then, his crew left my house a dirty mess and damaged my property. Finally, I had to endure Greg’s excuses and hysterics for ten months while my washer and dryer were broken. I was overcharged AND had to pay for damage that I didn’t cause. I don’t know how this move could’ve been any worse.

This moving service broke the glass in my sofa table, upper glass and lower glass. they broke the leg on my dresser and then broke the leg or an end table. the movers that were with me gave me a form to fill out and assured me it would be replaced and repaired, I called the owner he began a long litany of how no one ever in all his days ordered $85.00 damage rider on his policy offered to his customers. If you use this man's service be prepared to have you item broken. Be prepared to listen to him tell you he will cover everything. be prepared for the fact that his insurance for $85 covers a small percentage of the repair or replacement cost entailed. The movers are not experienced the owner is hyper and automatically assumes you have a beef with him, before you vouve even gotten past hi. I wonder why this man is so hyperactively defensive. Could it be that he is ripping people off? I would have had better service and fewer broken things had I simply posted an ad on craigslist for moving help.

My girlfriend and I tried to use Smooth Move People to move a couple pieces of furniture. Everything seemed great until the day of the move, when we showed up at 3:30 as scheduled to her old place and waited. Hours passed and we finally heard from the movers, saying that their jobs ran late and they wouldn’t be there until 7:30 pm, or else we could reschedule for the next day. We had plans so we chose to reschedule for 12 pm the next day. Well here we are, 12 pm has come and gone. Not a word from smooth move people, we called multiple times and not only are they late but they didn’t even bother to call us. One of the most unprofessional services I’ve ever encountered. Huge waste of time. And before the owner replies with another one of his overly defensive responses —- no you won’t find my name in your records because this was all scheduled under my girlfriends name, but I was present for all phone conversations and interactions.

They were decent enough. They are pretty upfront with their price. I had to call a couple of times to get a response back but they were flexible with time availability for my move. The team that was originally supposed to show up didn't show or call and I called in and they sent someone else in. The movers I ended up having showed up super unenthused and grumbled on and off about doing their job throughout the entire move. One of the guys did his absolute hardest to not look at or talk to me but the other guy chatted a bit and was more open. They also went pretty slow seeming to try and drag out the time for more money. They were not particularly careful with my posessions or to not damage walls. At the end when I coughed up the unnecessary amount of money for their slowness they insinuated that I should tip them. Not the best but it got done I guess.

We are so glad we found Smooth Move People for our move from Portland to Seattle. We contacted a number of moving companies, and prices were outrageous for our two-bedroom apartment (some charged by the item, others by weight). I found Smooth Move People and spoke with Greg when first calling - he provided simple pricing details. They truly have the lowest rates in town. The crew arrived promptly at 7 AM on a Sunday morning. They got to work immediately, and packed everything up efficiently. The truck arrived early afternoon at our new apartment in Seattle, and the crew unloaded everything and placed it in each room. Everything was unloaded so FAST! We were impressed. Overall, I would 100% use Smooth Move People again, and will recommend them to anyone. You cannot beat the rates! Thanks to Greg and the team for making our move to Seattle so easy.

UPDATE ~ Contrary to what the business representatives response is, we have video and audio of the ENTIRE thing and it had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the neighbor moving but the actions of this companies employees. There is no way to justify this behavior, truly sad. As for the "elderly lady said she had to move because she was scared of her neighbors" best to check your facts before you post on the world wide web. Guys moving my neighbor parked in front of driveway across the street, home owner asked them to move and got attitude. Then rather then backing into driveway they chose to block the very busy road. When they were asked again to move they verbally and crudely responded. Then one of the movers grabbed lamp and threatened s.i.l. with it while cursing at him. Have ALL of it recorded. Filing with police and giving them a copy too.

This wasn’t a smooth experience at all, quite the opposite very stressful just trying to book an appointment. The manager/owner was extremely rude and even hang up the phone on me. When I call back to cancel the appointment he was even ruder. He got hysterical when I book a move for an afternoon and asked for an ETA on that day telling me I do not have the 30 years of “Customer Service” that he has and that he didn’t have a “Crystal ball”. All I needed was to have an idea if it was going to be at 1, 2 or 3 PM to be ready. The truth is I have a lot of customer service experience in my work life and I know I will never treat a customer like that on the phone. I had high hopes for this company, they had great reviews online but unfortunately, I caught him in a bad bay. I have never been this disrespectful.

With my plans to move from Washougal, WA to Troutdale, OR and half of the stuff going to storage and the other half to my new home, I knew it would be a challenge, not to mention be expensive. This company was by far the cheapest and did it within a few days of scheduling. I was completely blown away by the level of professionalism these two guys showed and how hard they worked. Not only did they move my things to the locations I needed them to go (with everything in great condition) but they also, upon request, took a couch out of the home I was moving into and switched it with mine, and then loaded that couch and took it to my storage for us. This was all done with no additional cost. I can't say enough good things about them. From start to finish they were wonderful!

No, I am not saying this is a bad company to do business with , just be ware. I have never giving a bad review and it pains me to do this, but I hope no one ever encounters this issue. The owner of this business was the nicest, but... He sent out a crew of two, only one was able to do the job of a mover. Had to call my son to come and help, I had to jump in and help too. I did not want to be a complainer or the nagging client and that too backfired. I had to fire both the mover and the moving company. I still paid over $600 dollars with about 25% content of my storage. Worst experience as a consumer, and the nice business owner? he suggested sending two other guys the next day and charge less. thanks but no thanks, getting screwed once was enough. best to you

i was nervous that maybe i had made the wrong decision hiring smooth move after reading the bad reviews. (I didnt read the reviews until after i had made my appt) But i decided id go into it with a positive mind frame. And it was great. My movers were Joe and Hans. They arrived on time? Maybe even a half hour early. I had anxiety that it would take 2 loads but they assured me it would only take 1. My king size mattress was my main concern and they did great with it. No broken glass. Tvs all intact. I didnt have to lift a finger! Considering i hired movers because of my tremors, i really appreciate the help and having my move be stress free! I would hire them again!

We used Smooth Move last year and I will never ever recommend them to anyone who is moving. There is not a day I go by without seeing the damage that they cause to EVERY piece of my furniture. There is either a black mark, chipped wooden leg, dented metal, scratched paint, torn fabric, broken latches, missing knobs. Without exaggeration there is not one piece of our furniture that was not damaged. Even our king size mattress has black marks on it. We even had 1/2 dozen moving pads left over that they could have used but didn't. OF course they won't do anything about it. But you need to know the bad along with the good.

We had a two apartment move into one condo. Joe and H"ant"z showed up promptly and knocked it out of the park. Super friendly, extremely efficient, navigated the city with ease, and not a ding or dent to mention. Every single other moving company in Portland Metro quoted 6-8 hours for our move. These guys knocked it out in under three hours with time to help us place a rug under our sofa. These two men where absolutely charming and a true delight. The next time we have a move we will be using Smooth Move People and requesting Joe and H"ant"z to handle everything.

Saved me hundreds of dollars by refusing to do the work. Claimed I was too ‘high strung’ (their words) then yelled at me and hung up on me several times when I called to find out if they were going to attempt to charge me after their movers refused to answer my questions, got back in their truck and drove away. These people clearly did not need my business, they didn’t treat me as a customer of value. They talked down to me from the beginning of our physical interaction, lacked professionalism, and miscommunicated over the phone during every phone call.

Stunningly unprofessional. I assisted a client to move through this company. The mover showed up and said he was not paid enough to move her household items and that they belonged in the trash. When I called their offices, Greg complained about how awful all his other contract jobs through Multnomah county and TPI were. He said because all these other customers were so terrible that he was unable to complete my client's move and to find another company. Because of this my client on disability was stranded for the night.

Called this company and whoever answered was so rude...they advertise as a small family run business and the cheapest in the area, but no wonder you’re not growing if the first thing the customer experiences when speaking to your company is a sassy attitude. And I quote “Well sorry you hired someone way more expensive than we are, then they hung up.” Well Smooth movers, the military moved us and we didn’t have a say in the matter, but next time I do get to pick my movers, I’ll make sure to not bring my business here.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Scheduled for 9:30AM and the owner call at 9AM that the driver is sick and can't make on time. He was extremely rude and kept telling you can cancel it because he knew I do not have other choose. Finally they came at noon. Brook my lamp shade, missing some part of my bed hardware. The only paid $12 because he believes it's repairable. I really don't know how it's repairable while lamp is broken to several pieces. Unless he thinks to glue it. not recommended at all

Have used many moving companies in the past and this one by far is superb. Excellent communication, professional service and exactly as promised every step of the way. I can't say enough good things about this company from start to finish they are far superior than other moving companies and at a much better price too. I would have paid more for this type of service and other companies charge more for far less. I would recommend to anyone, family and friends included, that need a moving company/service.

I've moved with Smooth Move People two times already and I am about to move with them a third time. Not only are they extremely reliable, the gentlemen that I have had help me move were extremely friendly and worked extremely hard. They make it as stress-free as possible and did all of the work, I literally just pointed to where I wanted something to go and they took care of the rest. I would HIGHLY recommend using their service, it's affordable, quality service from a local Portland business.

worst customer service I have ever experienced. The bald slim mover smoking like a chimney was so rude when asked to move his truck. Using foul language telling me to f myself. I called the company to speak with someone and was told, "I don't know what you said to cause him/our employee to say that " the owner did not apologize at all. this employee is rude and has made me feel uncomfortable. Do not use companies that are rude to people or cannot understand customer service.

I have to say that we have (unfortunately) had the need to use many different moving Companies in the past few years. I am happy to say that these guys were the best of the best. They took great care not to damage our furniture or the homes. They were very professional, quick and all around awesome. I used them based a recommendation, and would (without a doubt) recommend them to anyone needing a great moving Company! Great job guys, you made moving easy!

Roger and Tim showed up on time and it immediately put my worried mind at ease by there expertise and moving I was able to go about to do some important stuff and not have to worry about what they were doing they got the job done sooner than I had anticipated and we're very nice and polite I would definitely recommend them to all my friends and family

Lmao so the guy wanted 85$ an hour starting from when they leave their building (not the place your moving from) to the time they arrive back at their building. Plus gas for their vehicle plus wear and tare charges on their vehicle. And then I said just about everywhere else is cheaper so he said they’re probably all illegal companies then! #dead

We have used them 3 times and I really liked the mover/packing people to the point we requested Joe and crew each time. The only negative I have is the gentleman always sends too few people to do the jobs. The only time we had enough people was when our realtor argued the point with him. But like I said we really liked the movers themselves.

I Would highly recommend this company. The two movers, Jeremy & Hans, did a great job of being efficient and considerate of moving my 85 year old Mother's belongings. They got the job done and put her things (furniture & boxes) in the rooms we asked them to. They also put her bed back together and we didn't even ask them to do that.

They were on time, courteous and respectful of my beloved treasures!!!!! They helped me out in more ways than one.....and I was very grateful. I am a senior citizen and recommend them highly. If my family or myself ever need to move anything again.... they are at the top of my list!!!! These guys rock..... thanks again.

I had the best experience having them moved my household items. They were efficient and careful with my stuff especially my couch and bedroom furniture. The only issue I had is that one of the guys took my son bed apart and failed to put it back together. Other than that it was awesome. I will hire them again for sure.

The office responded to my phone message immediately. Spelled out the cost in detail. It was very affordable. They were very professional. The day of the move, I was called with the time they were coming and they were prompt. My 2 movers were Jesus and H"ant"z. Both did a fabulous job. I would highly recommend.

Like most people I absolutely loathe moving. I am so glad that someone had recommended this company as they made my move, so smooth! The 2 guys that came out worked extremely hard and fast and the service was worth every penny! If I ever move again in the Portland area, I’ll definitely be using them again.

The owner was very good at communicating with me when the original movers were running late he had his other employees come instead at my original appointment time. They were great and got all my furniture out of my old apartment and into my new apartment in only 2 hours. I highly recommend this company

Recently moved with Joe and another mover whose name I think started with K (Kyle? Kevin?). Both were very professional, friendly, and hard workers. They handled everything with care, were great at following instructions, and worked with urgency. I will be using this company again for my next move.

Tim and Tom were amazing! They moved all of our things so fast I couldn't believe it while still being careful with our breakable items. They also have the best rates in town. If you're looking for a quick, professional move at a good price I can't recommend them enough.

Great, fast work. They shrink-wrapped my couch and odd-shaped vintage pieces, and, as I packed most boxes myself beforehand, price was great for the amount of precise muscle work! Nothing was broken. Thank you for making my life easier!
