I thoroughly appreciate all of healthcare workers in St Vincent Hospital with great and wonderful treatment and care. All doctors and nurses were so lovely, nice and wonderful. Lovely people indeed. Their care and treatment are so great and advanced. Thank you so much to neurosurgery, endocrinology, ENT and emergency departments. I had a pituitary adenoma removal surgery from Dr Rana Dhillon. The surgery went successfully without any problems. Special thanks to Dr Rana Dhillon. I sincerely appreciate it. You’re the best neurosurgeon. Thank you so much to endocrinologists who looked after my condition so well until I get discharged. I appreciate to ENT surgeon who worked with Dr Rana during this surgery. Thank you so much for great work and kindness, ENT surgeon. I also would like to express my gratitude to lovely nurses while I was in the hospital. I could recover better and quickly after the surgery as looking after so well from lovely nurse, Annie. You made me so comfortable and looked after me so well when I was in pain and unwell right after the surgery. Thank you so much, Annie. Also thanks a lot to great sense nurse, Susan who let me move to window side even though I didn’t ask to. She recognised that I like looking outside of the window to look at the great views from St Vincent Hospital. You have a great sense of making people feel so good. I could enjoy staying the hospital with the great views. Thank you so much, Susan. (I attached the photos of views from St Vincent Hospital) Good and fun energy nurse, Snow. I could laugh a lot because of you. It was fun even just hearing your voice. Thank you so much for helping me discharge smoothly, Snow. Also thanks a lot to looking after me so well throughout the night, night shift nurses, Steve, Emilee, Sophie. Hope your night shift goes smoothly without any code grey. I went to emergency department after discharge to check something. All doctors and nurses in emergency department were so lovely and great too. Thanks a lot for checking me so well. I had an amazing and wonderful care from St Vincent Hospital teams. My parents and I cried several times when we were talking about how grateful to all of your great treatment and sincere care. We thoroughly appreciate you. I left feedback on St Vincent Hospital after discharge but I was going to mention doctors and nurses names but I missed it. So I leave here again. Hope they can get awards or compliments from the St Vincent Hospital. I can’t express enough my gratitude with words to all of you. It was my first experience in the hospital but if I have to come back to hospital, I would like to come St Vincent Hospital again. I highly recommend the St Vincent Hospital teams and Dr Rana Dhillon. Thank you so much for everything. Hope all of you are well. Miss you guys already. Take care. :)
My family has been struggling for the last 4 years to get answers. Our once helpful ,loving, caring, and affectionate down syndrome brother Daniel has slowly become aggressive, despondent, very moody and argumentative. CDAMS diagnosed him 2 years ago with Depression and maybe but unsure early Dementia. My brother has been in my care now for 25 years and has been able to live independently with assistance from myself for 20 years of that time. He came to live with us 5 years ago when I noticed something was amiss....Taps left on...Neighbours witnessing him crying out loud and we were finding him making bad decisions on things he was always positive with. As a close family it was evident to us something wrong...5 years later after A LOT of assessments , second guessing, heart wrenching experiences, Joanne Bowman from CDAMS and our local GP recommended we be assessed by Dr Angela Livingston a Psychiatrist who specialises in Dual disabilities and Dementia. During this difficult time Covid-19 made sure that any correspondence or assessments came with a 3 to 7 month waiting period. Dr Angela Livingston was contacted by our GP on 11/02/2021 and by the 22/02/2021 we not only had a HOME appointment organised this wonderful Dr had been interviewing and assessing Daniel's Day programs, CDAMS, GP and Family. Everything was timely , professional and very caring. We as a family are very grateful not only for how fast Dr Angela assisted us but for the wonderful caring nature of her visit with Daniel. Thank you for this wonderful service available to us all.
Last week I had a heart scare and went to the Northern hospital where it was basically stand outside and wait behind the rest. So much for cardiac being important like it used to be. Decided to go down to Northpark Private ED. Yes I had to pay 280 but the minute I got there I was admitted and my partner could come in with me. (Closing down in 6 weeks...great another hospital option gone) As my HR was fluctuating dramatically and luckily caught on the heart monitor. The Dr on duty contacted the cardiac specialist on call and he advised I needed to go to a hospital that may need to perform a pacemaker procedure. The specialist tried from 5pm to 930pm to find a bed. None were available. I have private insurance. Nothing. Finally a call came back to say St Vincent's public had a bed. 1 1/2 hrs later an ambulance came to transfer me. We then waited 3hrs to actually get an ED bed...no wonder there are no ambulance out there, they are stuck at hospitals waiting for hours to hand over their patients. Shocking. Anyway I finally got a bed in ED and from then on I have absolute praise for the staff and their caring and professional manner. Best hospital I have been to where the patient was treated so well. All patients received great care. I was transferred to a ward the next afternoon and the staff their were just as efficient and caring. I was discharged to have follow up with the cardiac specialist after they had kept an eye on my symptoms. If you are told you are going to St Vincent's Public, relax as you will be so happy with your care
Thank you for the doctors and nurses that has taken care of me and finally found what actually made me very much in pain, and the other staffs that I had the opportunity to meet in my 7 days here.. You guys have been so nice Especially thanks to Dr. Tess & nurse Isaac from Emergency and the whole 7th level ward.. thank you Dr. Jessica and the numerous doctors team that checked up on me, nurse Morgan, Betty.. and shout out to nurse Angela!! OMG what a genuine incredible person that made me feel very well taken care of, the amount of care and the little details she noticed and the time she took to care for each patient is truly outstanding, above and beyond.. top notch! I heard you came back on first day again when I saw you first time, so glad I got the opportunity to be taken care under you, you do belong in this field.. what a genuine wonderful & caring person you are, thank you!! I’ve also even been told that I’ve met the whole ultrasound team.. OMG Thanks Vin & team to help found out what’s happening inside me thoroughly, uhm! Thank you as well to the nice porters that helps bring me up and down in wheelchair whenever I need some imaging done and always make sure I’m warm in blanket & have a nice chat, I appreciated that. Thanks St. Vincent’s Hospital team, keep doing your great job taking care of our health, your hard work and effort are much appreciated especially during these tough times.. please take good care of yourselves too guys, much love!
Visited Emergency Department Due to severe low back pain. The night administration staff was friendly and was very happy with the service at the start. The issue was the long waiting after registering the information. You can find yourself waiting from 9:30 pm to 3 am just to get into the room for the nurse to check the blood pressure. Then after addressing the problem with the nurse He took the blood and went off for two hours then came back with the result and keep saying the doctor will need to see me and waited for another 4 hours then the doctor came just to discharge me at 9 am then Emergency Alert service Counselor came without informing. So if anyone has a child or children with them at the hospital they will find themselves with an Emergency Alert counselor asking a series of questions about family situations and living stands such as housing and concern. So if you don't want to find yourself being suspicious and don't want to share about your private life with them if you are the primary carer for your children it's best to leave your children with families or friends who can mind your children while you are in the hospital.
I have unfortunately been in a few hospitals over recent years and I can confidently say that the nurses at St Vincent's are just in a different league. They are not only skilled and professional, but thoughtful and kind. They really go out of their way to make you feel better. I felt very confident that I was getting the best care, and that they were there when needed. Instant response to a call if I buzzed - cheerful, competent and kind. I was even offered a cup of tea at 3 in the morning as I couldn't sleep. I was given a back rub as I had been lying down after surgery and was a bit stiff. This worked better than medication. The nurses were very good at pain management. They try to avoid pain rather than wait for it and then manage it. At other hospitals, I felt as though the student nurses did most of the work and were used as cheap labour with the senior ones very rarely seen. Not at St Vincent's - it is first class care all the time. This means that you get better and have a shorter stay. The rooms are also comfortable, clean and quiet. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone.
If I can rate them a zero I will. They initially booked a surgery for my mum at 10am then they called the day before saying come in early at 9am as Doctor can do it early. We came in at 8:30am make sure we get ready for the operation. However after that, we put in a waiting room for 8 hours. And still waiting. Thats ridicouls. I have to take a day off on my first day of my new job. The whole thing is so unacceptable. Plus others came in 4 or 5 hours later than my mum already did the operation. And nurses have to call the doctor 3 times and no one bother to come down and let us know what happened. Now a young fellow just told us just bad luck they can't do it today as other emergency case. And told us go home and bad luck. I can't believe 8 hours they just told us we are bad luck. And they not even feel sorry about what we been through and this is second cancellation already. First time they just send letter saying it got cancelled with no reason. And we have to back to the queue for another 6 months. We waited more than 14 months. And just because of back luck.
I just witnessed a bloke be held against his will and taken advantage of because the nurses seemed to think it was best. What they really done in my opinion was heartless and cruel, they belittled the young guy and wouldn’t even let him walk to the rehabilitation center. They called all sorts of codes and twisted the situation to make him seem unstable and violent but all I could hear from the man was worry and uncertainty because no one was letting him do anything. Anyway when I saw the person be escorted from cubicle 3 ( in a wheel chair as it is apparently procedure and the only way someone can be transported as I heard them in there defence to his begging of just to walk over) my heart broke because he was just a young kid which you could see was scared and I have personally witnesssd a patient be walked over with just one security as well as myself. It was disgusting to see him not be taken seriously and made to be taken advantage of especially when nurses took turns to have a giggle then go back to boss him and strip him of his self worth
I was a patient there in Nov 2016. The maternity care is fantastic. I read the review by K Ok and disagree with their opinion. I was given thorough information about natural and surgical birthing options, by my obstetrician and the birth classes offered by St Vincent's private hospital. I ended up having a planned c section due to the size of my baby. The doctor gave me the pros and cons of all birthing options and let me decided which was best for me in terms of recovery, mindful of giving birth safely to a healthy baby of course. I could have had a natural birth but was told the possible implications and inevitable interventions required to get my baby out as she would have likely gotten stuck and the impact on my recovery afterwards. My recovery has been smooth sailing. The midwifery care was exceptional. I didn't want to go home! The food was great. I actually miss the place! If I have any more children, I wouldn't hestitate to return. Well done to all the health professionals working in that ward!
Whilst the standards of medical support and processes are generally of high quality, after a three day visit I felt that the standard of hospitality fell below expectations. Missed meals were bad enough but no towels, particularly after having procedures (and the next morning) was poor. Definitely in dire need of some ‘mystery shoppers’ to hone their quality systems. Staffing appears stretched with massive support coming through student nurses on placement. I even self-medicated at one point when my medicines hadn’t arrived prior to 11pm and I needed to sleep (though finally got a visit 20 minutes later). Patients shouldn’t be forced to call for a nurse especially when these sort of basics are being missed due to slackness or poor processes and procedures. It shouldn’t be too much to expect good hospitality as a key function in a hospital. Sadly heading back in a couple of weeks for another visit and if it wasn’t so close I would have rescheduled this at another hospital.
My sister-in-law was involved in a car accident were she was t-boned by another car and crashed into a parked car, air bags deployed and all, later that day had a seizure. My brother called an ambulance and she was sent to St Vincent’s. she was treated horribly. Because of her mental illness They completely dismissed everything she was telling them and telling her that she was over exaggerating and making it up. Even dismissing my brother who told them what had happened. They dismissed her that night with no aftercare instructions or pain killers to manage the pain. She is still in a lot of pain and is now having to go to her GP to pursues her care further as the hospital failed to treat her. In future she is going to Austin hospital where she will be treated professionally and without obvious prejudice by hospital staff. The hospital staff behaviour was abhorrent and unprofessional and prejudice. They should be ashamed.
I was admitted here 2 nights ago after passing out on the toilet at home alone due to constipation...(yes, so embarrassing) due to strong painkillers from my ACL surgery in kew on 25/2. Ambulance came in 20 mins. I was told to wait in the waiting room whilst I wait for a bed. My blood pressure dropped and my stomach pain was 8/10 and was trying not to pass out. I was seen in 30 mins. The only mishap whilst waiting, there was a woman laying on the ground in the waiting room screaming in pain (i think she had a miscarriage) but the receptionists just told her to wait rudely (will never forget what I saw) I was treated and kept overnight. The nurses were lovely and kept me out of pain and really looked after me. Thank you Joanne, you were amazing. The paramedics even took the privilege of driving me home as I'm on crutches and my apartment removed its wheelchair access. Very caring
The evening of March 9th, 2022 I presented at St Vincent’s Melbourne ED with a swollen, non weight bearing injury to my ankle. The doctor and nurses made fun of the boot and crutches I had immediately given to myself as I could not weight bare without them. They sent me to X-ray and I was told nothing was broken and I should leave the boot off. Returning to Sydney SIX days later, I visited my GP who did an X-ray, and was sent to ED at Royal North Shore Hospital where they diagnosed breaks in my lateral malleolus and the posterior malleolus of the tibia and the head of my fibula with some ligament tears. My Orthopedic Surgen wanted to know how they could have not seen the breaks. Shame on the doctors and nurses at St Vincent’s Melbourne. Perhaps you need to go back to school. However the administration staff in ED were wonderful, caring and compassionate.
This hospital is pretty good. I went in due to an infection of the tooth which gave me a fever. They tested my blood and also found that my iron level is incredibly low. They immediately arranged for an iron transfusion. Unlike Austin, I got the impression that I was going to get an iron transfusion but instead, they wasted a few hours of my time just waiting and only end up chatting with them, did not get the iron transfusion from them as they wanted to make me wait for another two weeks. Being a uni student I’m quite busy and I simply did not have the time nor the patience to wait anymore. Don’t wanna go back just to chat. Of course, I had to wait at st Vicent’s as well, but it was only for a day and I understand that they have other patients to take care of. I have to say, the staff here are quite friendly and considerate. A thumbs up from me
I am just grateful we decided to come here all the way from Sunbury.. Thanks to Erin and Linda for looking after me while I was getting ready for appendix removal. They were the most lovely and caring nurses on earth. Thanks for all the great job done in ED. After a long wait ( CT, blood test amd others exams to confirm the diagnostic), I was transferred to Ward level 7 and then found another couple of Angels. They patiently and with so much professionalism looking after me. Thanks Hanna Megan & Sarah for being with me before and after the surgery. You are awesome. And of course, special thanks to Dr Bruce Wilkie my surgeon and Olivia the anaesthetis that saved my life. Dr Wilkie even chantted an Encanto song for me. Thanks for being great and compassionate humans. For ever grateful. Definitely God brought me to the right place
This is a public hospital, it's made up of people people, they are not perfect, no one is. These people, nurses, cleaners, doctors and surgeons are here to help it's the duty. If you have a problem speak up but don't yell. Speak well if you want to be taken care of well. There might be some nurses and doctors who are better than others or less qualified then some still it does not give any patient the right to have a go at these great people. 1 nurse could only look after 1 floor sometimes or multiple rooms, you need to understand them aswell, if you call them they will attend if they haven't that means their attending someone else who is in more need than you. Patience is a virtue, especially in a public system. I would like to thank all of the nurses, doctors, and all who have attended my needs. Much appreciated
The only place that is happy for you to catch covid and keep prisoners in single rooms instead of other patients And kick healthy patients on the street when they have half a floor blocked off no one In or out full of covid and they want to put more covid patients in other wards to infect everyone ……. Well done for making sure I die instead of helping me … I put up with you putting me here there and everywhere instead you keep a prisoner I. A single room and kick a person who needs treatment on the street and infect another ward with covid instead of putting the patient on the same floor on the other side of the hallway with the other covid patients where the whole ward is infected They even keep your expensive medication for themselves to get high ….. while you go off to die in The streets
Nothing against the hospital. Tried to call the specialist clinic and there was a long wait time, which is understandable, but when the phone was picked up I was met with the rudest person ever who rushed through the phone call and spoke over me many times before hanging up abruptly. We missed our phone appointment with our doctor and the receptionist called us back saying the doctor wants us to reschedule the appointment. We say ok that’s fine, expecting the receptionist to help us book another appointment or at least transfer us to the department that handles bookings. They hang up on us again. I am on the phone to them now and have been waiting over 30 minutes to get through since I had to wait in the queue again. Horrible service and not kind to patients at all, making us feel stupid.
There is more to the healthcare profession than just the medical aspect. A health care professional requires certain values of humanity such as care, empathy and uphold a nurturing persona. Unfortunately my grandfather did not experience any of this in his time at St Vincent’s hospital and that resulted in his recent passing. My grandfather is the strongest person I know. He was labelled on multiple occasions a priority and was stated he needed urgent treatment yet was neglected and pushed aside. He spent his last month on Earth in hospital alone. It was not his time, yet the lack of care for his needs resulted in this. I have worked in care settings myself and can not fathom how care etiquette is not a priority in this hospital. Where is the humanity and respect the elderly deserve?
Not sure about other wards but the day surgery isn't well organised. Told to arrive at 9am for a 20 minute day surgery. Called in at 10am to get ready for surgery. 5 hours later and still waiting for surgery. If I ran my business this way I would have closed down. Not once were we checked on, not once were we offered an explanation why they were running so far behind. If a doctor says I need to come back here again I'm changing doctors. I ask if we are forgotten about and told last surgery took longer than expected. I'm guessing doctor O'Brien either can't plan very well or his office staff can't. 10 minutes wait to get the elevator and no access to stairs....all round pathetic. 2 public toilets on the ground floor for people to use so long que for them plus not very clean.
Drilled into my finger at work and needed to go to the ER. Patient drop off area was easy to access. ER triage put me through quickly, the staff were attentive, highly professional and patient. Needed to stay overnight for surgery. Bed 7 East 15:2 was comfy with a nice window view of city lights. The nurse on duty, Angela did a great job communicating to the patients and making everyone feel comfortable and looked after. The patient in the bed next to me was in a pretty bad way and seemed overwhelmed at first but became noticeably calmer and at ease with the caring attention from Angela, Ella the other nurses. Snacks were surprisingly tasty. I recommend the shortbread. Thank you to all of our wonderful public health professionals. We are truly lucky to have you.
I have the highest regard for this Beautiful Hospital and it’s staff. My Late Husband spent many years being treated by the wonderful Nurses and Staff on 7 West. He couldn’t have had any better. Their care of him and me and our family was amazing. People have to realise that when they present at a Public Hospital, the wait can be long and arduous, however, the system is excellent where the most urgent patients are attended to as soon as possible and those with not as much urgency, do have a long wait at times. Please try and be patient, they all do the best they can. If you are not happy about waiting there is always the option of presenting at another hospital where the wait could be short or much longer! Don’t take your impatience out on the staff please.
On the whole, it is a good hospital with caring doctors and staff but I am just confused with a policy with regarding asking for lunch at the hospital. I have been there a few times and from my understanding, they usually do provide sandwiches if they are running very late with appointments. However, I do remember vividly that one of the staff did mention that we could also have a sandwich if we ask for it. On most occasion, it was a great service and I was looked after by the staff but today, I was told that they don't offer sandwiches anymore in that manner. Would appreciate if someone could reply to me about this? I attended the Blue clinic...Would appreciate if a staff member could reply but since as I am confused about this.....
My father was admitted at this hospital and after 4 long hard weeks, he passed away. His admission was during covid where no visitations were allowed. After many attempts to see our father as we could see his health declining we got no visits on compassionate grounds whatsoever. Nurses and particularly doctors (Dr. Jocelyn )in the renal department should be ashamed with the lack of information and when provided information it was mis-information!!! Different stories from different doctors. After several requests for a family meeting, we were ignored. We finally got a meeting 2 days before my dad’s death telling us there was nothing more they can do. I’m writing this as I wish this upon no family to go through what we went through.
My GP sent me to hospital today. I've been in many hospitals over the last 3 years. I was in quite a lot of pain. From the moment I entered emergency I was treated so very well by everbody I came in contact with. The male nurse was fantastic, really showed concern & understanding of my situation. The Doctor Who attended me was fantastic, clearly very competent, Dr Maddy Bangham really understood I was very anxious (worried about the possibility of testicular cancer). Even the pharmacist was great, showing real concern & making clear my course of treatment. I've given very positive reviews of st V's before, and am very happy to see the same level of care being given by everyone who helped me. Brett Salwin.
I went to St Vincent’s emergency and then surgery for a broken ankle. I was really impressed by the kindness, patience and care that the doctors and nurses showed me. The student nurses were great too. They all had a great attitude and eased my fears about my surgery. They have all been patient and responded to my requests. Even the food has been alright! My only complaint was that the wait times are really long, but that is not the hospital’s fault. There were a lot of people coming in for emergency treatment, especially elderly folks and people with disabilities. We need more funding for public hospitals and accessible specialised services for the most vulnerable people in our community.
Very disappointed with organisation at hospital. Was called day prior to day surgery for a biopsy and advised to be at hospital at 6.45 which meant leaving home at 5 am. When early time was questioned was told I was 1st op for the day. I was prepared for surgery at 8.30 am. At 12 o’clock I was still waiting. At 3pm my husband came to ward and complained nicely and was told half an hour (everything is half an hour) which didn’t happen. At that stage I wanted to leave but was convinced to stay and eventually got into surgery around 4.30 meaning I had waited over 10 hours and reason given was it was a “busy day”. No reason why I was shifted from 1st to last procedure for the day.
Emergency department. What was that awful chemical smell in the waiting area . Doctors, nurses, patients breath it in while sitting in the waiting area and with the masks there is nowhere for that smell to escape. Not good for asthmatics at all. I had to endure it for a few hours I feel for the workers there having to endure that stench on a daily basis all behind a mask. The triage nurse nearest the emergency rooms was lovely. The nurse who called me in was just as lovely. The young lady at x-ray was also lovely and the nurse taking my BP the same. The doctors congratulations you were amazing. I saw how calm you all were under pressure and you were absolutely amazing.
Dear Receptionist, You all are there to help people and not just keep transferring the call, as you want to get rid of the person. Has been calling 5 times to book myself for Harmony test and been transferred to atleast 8 people who have never heard of the test. I had a receptionist telling me "What the hell is that" when i asked to transfer to correct department for the harmony test. The other big joke was i told them "i had done my ultrasound at the Private Hospital underground, the lady tells me its been closed down for ages, like seriously i did the test few weeks before. The people who call you might not know the exact department and all.You are there to help them.
I was allocated this hospital for a procedure and must say that right from admission to discharge , all was above my expectations. Rosy , my nurse was super attentive and caring and did her job in a professional way. She was an epitome of what a caring nurse should be . Thank you Rosy . Almost all of the staff were so polite, attentive and did their jobs so well in the festive season, and I commend them for it .The food was excellent and I cannot complain. there were choices available. I am not sure why people complain about hospital food. All my surgeons were excellent and answered all my queries and performed my surgery well. Thank you St Vincent's staff
This was my first time attending the ED at this hospital. I was blown away with the level of care I received. The staff were friendly, attaintive, extremely caring and really listened to me and my concerns. Dr. Alex took his time to ask me about my symptoms and my past medical history. Given that we are in the middle of a hospital/ambulance crisis, this was not felt today as all staff were still putting 110% into their jobs. I would like to thank all the staff who helped me get on the road to recovery. In particular I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Alex, Dr. Peter, Nurse Lindsey and Nurse Linda. We need more doctors and nurses like you.
Just want to know why so many people are hearing voices talking to them recently? Even on the tram, a child said to his mother ‘mom I can hear voices’ and the mother said ‘just make friends with them’. When I google searched ‘hearing voices’, I expected to find schizophrenia but google has all these articles normalising it. The google search results said that people are googling hearing voices at night. Someone I know says he is hearing spirits talk to him at night and other friends say they have started hearing voices telling them lies. I have NEVER heard of this in human history. It’s like something biological is influencing every day people.
I had two of the best nurses in Melbourne look after me, it was tops. So calming and thoughtful and knowledgeable. My 9th floor room was pristine and roomy (heh), free tv plus people brought me food and tea a lot.i don’t understand why people say being in hospital is so tough after this experience. My surgery was promptly arranged and after a slight complication (wound wouldn’t stop bleeding) they whisked me outta there with pain meds, arranged home nurses for follow up with minimum fuss, all while there was a MET call happening on the floor. I am super dooper impressed. Thank you Olivia in ED and Brigette in 9E, you ladies did a terrific job.
I am so upset unhappy on the St Vincent hospital treated my Grandfather. I am disappointed from no phone calls coming our way and no communication form doctors and nurses. my Grandfather was in pain and did not get treated. He could not speak English as he was Greek and could not get a translter to come and help. The doctors failed him in so many ways. He was strong as a rock he had it in him to fight the infection he had. A couple of days before he passed we had a family meeting that they couldn’t do anymore to treat him. He could have been living his life but the Saint Vincent’s hospital let him down. NOT HAPPY AT ALL!
The worst experience I’ve had till yet. Been there around 3-4 times all during midnights due to chest pain and shortness of breath. Literally, no one assisted (no triage nurses or staff at the front desk most of the time) for the first 30 mins; then kept waiting for my turn after admission for another 1.5 hours. When the doctor came and assessed; didn’t do much and simply ran a test or two. Their final words were ‘you can be assured you won’t die tonight; we can’t figure out the rest. Visit OPD for more info’. Neither the doctors nor the nurses paid much attention. They were completely negligent and the standard of care is in negative.
I cannot express enough how important it is to ensure your belongings are either handed to a family member / friend or locked away. A family friend of mine had been staying here. Whilst the was room he was staying in was being cleaned, the bedside table where his wallet was stored was moved into the hallway and left unsupervised. During this time, he had roughly $600 stolen from his wallet by an unknown individual. If you're staying here, please ensure your money or possessions are secure or otherwise handed to a family member. Otherwise, my family friend had received great care from the nurses and doctors during his stay.
I checked myself into the ED department in the early morning hours and was helped by wonderful staff: I found every interaction to be courteous, respectful and humane. Admission staff, doctors and nurses were great and put my mind at ease - I also had to see to the ED of the Ear and Eye where I had similar experience . I got the advice and care I needed to both address the issue and make me feel looked after. I feel thankful we have a public health system that allows that. Our health system deserves more funding and support, but I just wanted to shout out the wonderful staff of St.V's in this instance.
The St Vincent staff and doctors are not good here, they have committed medical negligence and treat first nations people with absolute disrespect, they did not care for a woman who has been through so much trauma and abuse in her life, they did not help me with my mental health and sent me home on foot instead of helping me with a taxi, when they put me on a dangerous drug without having me in for their programs, this hospital left me to rot for 6 months on my own with no care, this place is a disgrace, they will laugh in your face while you sit there broken and bruised, the doctors are degrading.
I came here not too long ago with severe pain & basically not able to function as a human being. The front desk was very nice & and kind, but I was mistreated by the emergency doctors . They didn't listen to me at all & was very disrespectful about my pain. They said it was all in my head when, in fact, I have a chronic pain condition. They didn't have any specialists on hand to even help me or even provide pain relief even though I have been puking, not able to eat, barely able to drink fluids & in so much pain I can't sleep. DON'T COME HERE IF YOU HAVE A CHRONIC PAIN CONDITION!
Check in last evening with a deep cut to my thumb and was attended to by the most amazing and caring people I have met. Every single nurses and doctors that I have came across are genuine and shares the passion into making sure of my wellbeing. I am lost for words in how grateful and touched I am with their service. I couldn’t remember all of their name but I would like to thank Plastic surgeon Dr. Pedro and his team Dr. Boris Dr. Andrew Nurses Brigette Ineke Trainee nurse Ashleigh And everyone in the ED and 9 east for their care and warm hospitality!! Thank you once again!!!
I can’t speak highly enough of this hospital, the care I have received is unbelievable. From the triage at emergency department to the nurses n doctors of that department deserve all the accolades that may come their way. I read another review from a patient who attended Northern hospital first then decided to come to St Vincents. I had a similar experience with Northern hospital where I was referred to the respiratory area due to my chronic emphysema, it was like I am a number to them. Treat the St Vincents staff with respect as they are the ones trying to help you
**Update 02/02/2018** Just had our second child at St Vincent’s Private, once again all the staff have been brilliant. Thanks! We had our first child here, very impressed! Intelligent, caring and supportive staff who go the extra mile. Good clean facilities. Double bed was a bonus for breastfeeding/bonding sessions with bub. Better than expected food, I even received red wine with dinner. Fast wifi, handy for uploading photos of your newborn or watching Netflix while they sleep. I would definitely recommend going Private over public if you're planning for a baby.
I cannot express how professional and caring all of the Staff, Nurses, Doctors, lmaging, Mammograming, Breast Clinic, Cancer Clinic, Ultrasound, Biopsy, Team of Doctors. As a public patient l could not ask for a more caring, professional team. Also post op and home now. I would like to thank the Team, Dr C Foley for doing a wonderful job in surgery. Anastasia and her medical team, Nurses Charlotte, Dana, Lucy, Emily & Emily, Tania, Repinda, Rin (physt) and Georgia Breast Co-ordinator and every one involved in my care. A wonderful team. You are all amazing.
My brother was in St.Vincents from last night, he just finish his surgery. All the Doctor's and nurse's was very kind, friendly, also very professional. I was going home to pick up some things. And mums looking after my brother, the nurse's can tell she has anxiety, and they offer to get her some drink and tell my mum not too worry. We are very appreciate the excellent customer service and all the help from St. Vincents hospitals staffs. They are lovely peoples with good hearts. Their family's should be proud of them. God bless them and their families!!!
I went to the emergency due to an issue with my eyes. However they I had to come back home without seeing a doctor. I have waited 5.5 hours and I have paid 500$ upfront since I don’t have Medicare. After sitting there for 5.5 hours I went to the counter and asked the person there how long I have to wait to see a doctor because my eye is hurting and he said can’t tell. Simply that’s the answer I got. Worst place to go. This way of work should be change in all hospitals where emergency should treated as an emergency not as a friendly visit to a doctor.
I must say, it's pretty swanky for a public hospital compared to sunshine hospital, Lovely hospital staff who do look after you and will leave you alone when you need your privacy. The meals are not like how back in the olden days of the dull boring hospital food, these meals are nutritionally delicious and quite yummy! I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 night stay here on the tenth floor, giving me the best city view from my window, it's a pity I was too lightheaded to enjoy it, but other than that.. I loved it there, even throughout the COVID Lockdown.
Needed to go to the Emergency Department on Saturday July 7 at around 11:00am. Right from the start I was impressed with the entire staff in terms of their conduct and professionalism. I was made to feel welcome and that eased my tension and worry immensely. From my admittance until my operation the same night until my discharge the following day, every staff member followed procedures and showed that they care. Wow! I was really impressed. A big thank to all the staff that I had contact with. You made my short stay a lot less trying. Thanks.
I am amazed about the professionalism and patience of the staff in this place. They have been very detailed in what I had to go through and what was the cause of my pains. Could never thank enough the doctors and nurses to help me getting out of the situation I was having. They were really good in what they were doing. The only thing that I would point out is that I had to wait 14 hours before an operation. Although I can totally understand it’s not that easy to treat a lot of people at once in the emergency and do all the necessary tests.
I went to Emergency depart svh Melbourne 13/06/22 at 2.00 pm with sever back pain & Lt Sciatica, UR 775026, I waited six hours without got any care & no Dr. saw me. Is this the humanity & pt care of good hospital talking about. carless nursing staff & health system, moreover discrimination (40 patients have been seen in six hours but no one helped a 60 years old Diabetic & hypertensive, heart problem & back postoperative complications patient. Shame on you St Vincet Hospital Melbourne, even after sent a -ve feedback , no one contact.
This hospital literally saved my life. Every single staff member who works in the cardiac ward are out standing members of this community. I was transferred from a large private hospital in Richmond (Erin St) where the treatment was horrific. St Vincent's stepped up and my family are all so grateful for how well i was treated. Also, the follow up support from nurses, physio and other specialists has been fantastic. This other hospital only followed up for a bill payment :| pretty gross comparison. Public is way better than private.
My stay was excellent due to the wonderful nursing , medical and service staff. Even the wonderful staff who delivered my food and morning and afternoon teas were friendly and helpful. I couldn't fault any who work there, particularly all staff on the seventh floor . Connie, Debbie and Mimi in particular were fantastic, very caring and gentle with me. My wonderful surgeon visited me every day and my anesthetist visited me also. I couldn't have had a better experience in what was a worrying time.. Keep up the great work.
While my surgeon and his team were fantastic and I’d happily give them 5 stars. The after care of the hospital and the facilities were below par for a private hospital. The tv didn’t work in my room. The aircon didn’t work it was like an oven in my room all the time. I was supplied a useless fan which didn’t work. The staff I mainly dealt with were rude and disregarded most things I said to them. It felt like I was loaded up on pain killers and sent out the door asap. Pretty disappointing to be honest.
It’s been 1 year since I admitted in this hospital but it’s always such an honour and big thanks to the doctors and nurses who helped me. And I won’t forget the doctor who’s been there for me, he’s a good young Phlebotomy and I remember he fixed my bed and offered me, if he can cook me foods. You were so amazing person and very friendly and won’t ever forget your cold hands every time you took me a blood samples I was so lucky to have a doctor/my nurse Thanks a lot doc Jayden.
I could not be more appreciative of all the care, support and dignity that the staff from 1C gave my daughter and family through such a challenging time. Every staff member was just amazing in the care they provided us from clinical team to catering and cleaning staff. You do such a wonderful job providing more than just care but the little things that made us feel welcomed. During the COVID-19 you all were outstanding and I could not recommend your facility more highly. Thank you
I am disgusted by the way they treated my grandfather who is non speaking english. I heard it over the phone it was absolutely atrocious, yet to hear him struggle and understand what the doctors and nurses were saying. The hospital had stated him as non speaking english patient yet not once did they provided an interpreter to voice his concerns. As his beloved family we tried to voice our concerns, and they did not show any compassion and would often hang up on us.
Absolutely outstanding hospital. The nurses and doctors are extremely knowledgeable, skilled, friendly and patient. Thank you to all the staff that have helped my husband and me over the months of surgery and treatment. We're endlessly thankful. Your expertise, kind hearts, humorous stories and open ears have made all the pain so much easier to endure. We've felt like we're in best hands and are entirely taken care of. Best hospital food, too. Highly recommended.
I was astonished at how caring and expert both the night and day shift nurses and doctors were. I'd always had a bit of negative association with hospitals but my short time at st vinvents blew this out of the water. Consider that with some of the negative reviews that people have to be prioritised, that you get heart and other monitoring, and there's always resources to manage but clearly they do an amazing job. Our tax dollars couldn't be more wisely invested.
I thank the Sisters of Charity who created this wonderful hospital and i also thank the remaining Sisters who are still at the Hospital. The Sisters values are compassion, integrity, justice and excellence. And this really shows from the care you get from the staff. This is the best Hospital in Melbourne and if i could give it more stars i would because it well deserved. Thank you sisters for creating this wonderful hospital from the bottom of my heart.
On Tuesday night as a visitor to Melb., I suffered fall in my hotel room! Ambos conveyed me to St. Vincent’s! I can’t stress enough how the care, concern and attention was superb! As it was late at night I was very distressed , yet I felt like I wasn’t a burden! Thank you to all the staff, Nurses, Doctors and radiologists who whilst under so much stress still maintained absolute professionalism! A credit to your hospital! Thank you so much!
Terrific clinic. I've seen several doctors and all have been extremely helpful. Great system with walk ins with a high number of doctors. I have found 1 specific doctor who I regularly see now who is fantastic. Terrific on-site nurses and very helpful receptionists. (Juliette is so lovely!) Very helpful having so many on-site services with Pharmacy, Radiology and Physiotherapy, all of which have been excellent. Highly recommend!
Nurses are very kind but there are not enough doctors. Waited for almost 8hrs to get bad medical advice from the doctor (he said I should drink a glass of milk to help with chest pain). Would have had to wait longer if I didn't eventually make a complaint to the nurse as they had had my test results over 3 hours and I only needed 5 minutes to hear the results from the doctor. I left in much worse condition then when I went in.
This beautiful hospital saved my life, The beautiful staff in the liver clinic went above and beyond for me, I decided to have my son Ryan come here because other hospitals have said his back injury is too costly, His been nothing but cared for from staff in clinics and today the emergency department. Thank you so much for the on going care of my son Ryan gibbs you are all bloody angels. I’m so extremely grateful
Absolutely appalling treatment in day procedures clinic by admin and screening staff upon arrival. Very unprofessional and rude. Also the Barbara Walker Clinic is disgraceful. 2 different areas I’ve been a patient in this public hospital and both were awful experiences. There needs to be emphasis on respectful, professional care/treatment and communication towards patients. Staff training is vital and should be reviewed.
Just been discharged today from St Vincent’s after a week in care. The nurses were all so caring and attentive to both myself and the other patients on my ward and the doctors all very friendly and explained everything clearly every step of the way. Have never had to go to hospital for surgery and always dreaded the day but the care I received from the amazing staff has completely changed my outlook. Thank you so much!
In past experiences, i have only praised the Nurses and staff at St.V's Melbourne 7west, towards my Mother. But this time she was left in a room on her own not able to get out of bed on her own and delivered food that was not only looking disgusting, but was put on a table tray out of her reach. Food that we bought in was not offered to her out of visiting hours even though notes were on her board. While we vsited we w
I had my second baby here and cannot fault St Vincent's maternity ward. Our midwife Carrie was amazing, patient, kind and a great distraction. The ward was wonderful. We were lucky enough to be moved to the Park Hyatt and it was such a treat. Would highly recommend. I returned 3 weeks after baby was born to see lactation consultant, Elizabeth was able to fix our problem within 10minutes! Very impressive services
I've never before felt the compulsion to leave a google review for anything, let alone a hospital, but I truly want the world to know how amazing the people are at St Vincent's Melbourne. This was my first time in hospital and I felt very safe, supported, informed, and incredibly comforted throughout the entire journey. The nursing team, in particular, in 10 East are incredible. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I'm still a patient at St Vincent's. Having just been discharged from another hospital not long earlier, this time was especially hard to be back inside hospital. The staff are extremely empathetic and very professional. When placed in such a difficult situation as being in hospital, having nurses and doctors and all other staff in general be so friendly, smiling and positive it really does make a difference.
Today I travelled to Melbourne to take my sister for a review at the Red Clinic at the St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. I would like to thank everyone there, it was such a positive experience. From the time we arrived to the time we left. The clinic was well organised and the staff were just wonderful. I came away confidant with the advice we were given and had a full understanding of future interactions.
Have been attending outpatients for the past 12 months. Have also had two admissions during that time. I’ve been to nearly every hospital on the eastern seaboard, from Cairns to Hobart, and none can compare with St Vincent’s. Fantastic staff across the board, and they’re all happy to be working there, which speaks volumes for the administration, training and culture. Outstanding in all respects.
Whilst on holiday in Melbourne (from UK) I was taken ill on New Years day and admitted via the emergency department. I was in for 4 days. The care I received was outstanding and I want to thank all of the staff from emergency, cardiac unit and pharmacy for their professionalism. A big thank you from me and my wife. I am very grateful for all that you did to get me back to good health. MD (UK)
I encountered probably a dozen and a half separate individual staff members throughout my overnight stay in short stay. Each member of staff was as thorough, diligent, available and kind as the next. The place is falling apart and it’s cold and nothing worked and every ER waiting room is going to be a mess, but the staff did everything possible to make my time there as pleasant as possible
when i , got there, sanitizer, wait in chair, 3minutes you'd called the doctor very professionalwiththeir expertised. After asking all the question they vive you a perscibtion to get medicationat the chemist.then you go home the whole ordeal not even 20 minjtes.love it.but if you impatence they will get your blood to test.they took about 7 tubes of blood.so don't be a hero....
Aside from having a broken nose, I had a great experience - and this is the weirdest thing to say about a hospital. All nurses were super friendly, caring and with a great sense of humour, which is impressive considering we are talking about an emergency department during a pandemic! Doctor Sarah Simons was gentle but assertive, which was reassuring and calming. I was quickly in and out.
Nice hospital but had a bad experience. Nurses didn't respond quick enough when patient was trying to inform about his worsening condition. Patient condition got worse and then staff took him seriously. In charge nurses shamelessly appreciated her nursing staff that they picked up about his deteriorated condition. Patient and family should be included in treatment and decision making.
My Wife and I had our first child at SVHM The staff were absolutely fantastic the entire time. Our experience was superb and I could not fault it. Our room was beautiful & spacious the food was lovely with a great selection. A HUGE THANK YOU to the dedicated Pediatricians & Midwives that make this hospital one of the best in the world! With much love from this new and grateful Father.
Went to visit a family member at 6.30pm and was unable to as visiting hours finish at 6pm. Never heard of a hospital's visiting hours ending that early, especially during the week where people are working etc..for patients in there for long duration at a time can be quite isolating given family may not be able to visit until the weekend. Need to change your ridiculous visiting houra
I had a endoscopy done here yesterday the nurses and staff are super supportive I have severe anxiety and they were very understanding doctors were gentle and informative andrew a gastroenterologist. Was so sweet and caring very positive and even made the effort to come see how I was after his shift had ended highly recommend food is nice as well thank you for looking after me
I had a 3 night stay at St Vincent’s after a trip to the emergency room and I could not recommend this hospital more highly. The doctors and surgeons assigned to my case were fantastic, but the nursing staff (especially those on level 7) we’re literal angels - so attentive and caring. It’s never nice going to hospital, but this was definitely the best experience I’ve ever had.
Currently a long way from home in st vincents hospital. The nurses are all a credit to their profession and personal caring attributes, making challenging times more positive for all. Likewise the patients respect for them is obvious. Also the vegetarian menu is a credit to all involved. Thank you all who helped and made my recovery quick and easygoing.
Worse experience ever, dysfunctional , never relayed appointment times. Had my son believe he would be back to somewhat a normal life only to issue disappointment on the day which should have brought him happiness. Can never get through to anyone. And they never return calls. This experience has left my son seeking treatment for depression. Well done and thanks for nothing.
Yesterday, l was admitted to St Vincent’s public day surgery unit. The possibility of staying overnight, post surgery l was able to be discharged without staying overnight. The staff, including office, nursing staff and doctors were kind, caring and professional. I could not fault any aspect of my care. Also thank you to security who walked me to the appropriate entrance.
Had a lithotripsy appointment at Vincent’s and I have to say the whole day team made it such a pleasant experience. From the admissions team, to the anaesthetic team, urology team, recovery team and discharge team, I felt very looked after and comfortable the whole procedure. Special shout out to the recovery nurses Jess, Van and Colleen for being so attentive and caring.
The worst attention I’ve ever had. I waited one hour to get into the emergency room. After that I waited 4 hours to get the attention by the doctor, until I dressed up and ask to the nurse to takeoff the canula, the doctor came apologizing them but at the end I got 3 pain relief and I told them that I was leaving that hospital. I would never EVER recommend this hospital.
I was at Fitzroy St before going to Cathedral place for rehab. One nurse RITA was the 1st nurse I had and she was so lovely. Rita was an older nurse she would come chat to me, helped me deal with having my leg off. Rita even bought me Cappuccinos. I can't thank her enough, but it shows that she was taught old school, where you cared about people and gave a bit of respect
I’ve waited for more than three hours in the emergency section only to be told that they don’t think that my situation needs emergency attention and it might take several more hours. Only a handful of people were in the emergency section and it was not busy at all but everybody was frustrated. I will never go back there since the only thing they did was making me wait.
Took a friend to the emergency department for a pretty deep knife cut. He was left there waiting for over an hour and half while blood dripped from his palm. All he was offered was a tissue for the bleeding. Barely 4 other people in the room. I don’t get the point of an emergency department if you’ve got to wait for 90 odd minutes to get yourself checked.
As always emergency takes a very very long time. So expect that. The area itself is pokey and small. It feels old. The staff were very friendly and seemed to me to be well trained and competent. An interesting mix of humanity in the waiting room. Lots of the power outlets have USB ports for charging which is nice. Not all of them though. No free wi-fi.
The staff is highly attentive to your need and concerns. Had a fracture wrist four weeks ago and have been treated very well so far by this hospital. The finance staff is also very sharp, able to aid the documentations you need to make the claim, providing great assistance and guidance along the way. Couldn't rave about this hospital enough!
Wonderful nursing care from the team on 5 West/plastics. Nurses there really go above and beyond for their patients. It makes such a difference when you are in pain and vulnerable. An especially big thanks to Ellen (night shift), Meg & Ebony. Thank you so much for all your help and care from Kate with the mashed finger from the window!
My mum discharge today after 3 days stayed in the hospital. Absolutely outstanding hospital ( one of the best of the best in Melbourne ). The nurses and doctors are extremely knowledgeable, skilled, friendly and patient. Thank you to all the staff that have helped my mum on 8 floors. All I can say is GREAT GREAT GREAT with 6 Stars.
Was very well taken care of by all staff here the entire time. This culture is set very effectively and taken seriously by the nurse unit manager. Full credit for this. Felt I was in incredibly safe hands during my timeki time here. From the nurses, to patient support and meal services. Top marks guys and well deserved I say too!
Dr R.Goh was very caring and professional! Definitely one of the best doctors I've been seen by.Curtis the following morning was also rather good as well. Finally the older male nurse on morning shift ED short stay is fantastic.really this gentleman puts 200% into his position with the hospital and the experience was very good.
I spent 3 nights in St Vincent’s Hospital lately having come through the ER dept to having surgery and being cared for on the 7th floor and from start to finish it was the best experience and level of healthcare I have ever received. The Doctors and nurses are so caring and explain everything in lay man’s terms . …
Terribly slow and rude staff at the reception desk of the Red Room in the Outpatient Ward. Dr Anthony of the plastics unit was the slowest and most unprofessional doctor I’ve ever been to and honestly think he should retire soon. Waited over 3 hours since my appointment because of an incredibly slow x-ray imaging team.
I love the staff at St Vincent’s, the last attendance there was at emergency clinic and the staff were excellent. Whenever I have to have any tests etc I ask my doctor to refer me to St V’s because I’ve always had the best treatment. Thank you to all staff and Doctors who do such a wonderful job for us in Melbourne.
Emergency was ridiculous. I was in for 4.5 hours given pain relief and left. Had an asthma attack and no one came to my aid. I had to search for help. Cause I wasn’t dying or bleeding I meant nothing to them. Rude and pathetic nurses telling me people had been there waiting since 3:30 pm and this was 11:30 pm.
Many thanks to all staff, from front office, through theatre and the wards, for the outstanding care you gave my daughter during stay for emergency surgery. My endless interstate phone inquiries were always met with the perfect level of clinical efficiency, kindness and clarity. Thank you. Deb Felton
Currently a long way from home in st vincents hospital. The nurses are all a credit to their profession and personal caring attributes, making challenging times more positive for all. Likewise the patients respect for them is obvious. Also the vegetarian menu is a credit to all involved. Thank you
My wife experienced the absolute care during the birth of our son. The nurses were unbelievable, they went above and beyond. In particular Jacinta, her shift was completed but insisted on staying on her own accord. Couldnt fault anything at all! We only have praise for this facility and its staff.
