The Cruffin is what drew me in, but the whole bakery will keep me coming back! I came up on this humblly housed bakery right around 8am on a Saturday morning. Right away I noticed not only the line wrapping around the corner of the ordering window, but the aroma in the air was mystifying and nostalgic. The line moved quickly and a window that prefaces the order window gives customers a glimpse into the whole operation. At the ordering window I was overwhelmed by the selection of baked goodies on display, but overwhelmed in the best way. I opted for the praised Cruffins and I was swiftly tempted into another treat that the cashier had talked a couple that was ahead of me into. Everything was packed cautiously and securely in a cute brown parcel that travelled amazingly. Their Passion Fruit Cruffin was the star of the order today. The chocolate glaze was equally sweet and tart, and the crusty pastry housed some scrumptious passion fruit pudding. I will definitely be returning to this amazing Burque staple, and look forward to tasting more menu items.

Oh my biscuits, BB was so good. There was a feeling of camaraderie standing outside in 42° waiting for your order to finish (the line was fairly short when I arrived around 08:30 and it moves quickly). I ordered the eggnog cruffin, green chile croissant, and a kouign amman, all of which were absolutely delightful. The KA I could not put down until it was gone. I also got a cup of coffee and everything felt really reasonably priced for exceptional quality. 10/10 would (and will) go back.

OHemGeeeee if I lived in ABQ I would be significantly higher weight because of eating here too often. I have been following this bakery on IG for months, finally visited. zero disappointment! from the patience of the dude answering my questions while I practically drooled ogling the day's offerings to the tasty cool brew to the outstanding baked goods, Burque Bakehouse is perfection. pro tip - Friday and Saturday they bake FOUGASSE! it's the yummiest crunchy, toasty baked good ever. I will eat the whole thing by myself, no shame in my love of savory baked goods, carbs for life!! p.s. about 10 days after i posted this i realized one of the goodies i bought - brioche with whipped cream (i think), cherries and pistachios - got overlooked in the fridge. well, i took it out, put it straight on the rack of my toaster over, covered the top with foil and toasted it right back up to crispy deliciousness...sure, the whipped cream drooped a bit but boy was that pastry scrumptious!

You've GOT to treat yourselves to BURQUE BAKEHOUSE's many forms of Croissant. I couldn't decide between 2, so got both {see pix} : 1. the Raclette Cheese with a stack of tender sliced potato on a croissant square, with an artistic garnish of pickled okra and a knotted green bean; 2. the Kimchi 'toast' : a thick slice of Croissant loaf, topped with seasoned mayo, Kimchi, poached egg, and cheese. Both were a little chilled - tho' good that way, probably better warmed. They have so many choices, and breads, and good coffee. There was a long line of people relaxedly waiting on a Saturday morning - young families, a very old man, some hipster couples. Some had walked, some had biked to the location on Broadway, south of Central Ave. We were happy to wait for such treats to take home - or on a picnic. {There's no seating.} Hours: Thurs-Sun 8am-2pm.

This was one of the best bakeries I’ve ever been to. And I used to work in one back in Detroit (shoutout to my Avalon fam), so I can be a little particular on baked goods. I wanted something savory so I got the green chille cheddar jack croissant and, I kid you not, I’m not even done with it I just had to write the review in the car as I was eating it was that good. It’s a little sweet and perfectly savory. A pinch of spice. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. We also got the violet blueberry Cruffin. Super flavorful also- kind of difficult to eat in the car. But well worth it. You can tell they put a lot of love into each thing they bake. Didn’t try the coffee but I know they mean business since everyone in line was ordering coffee as well. Staff was so friendly and warm. I hope Albuquerque can keep this place running for years to come.

This is the BEST bakery in Albuquerque, bar none. Burque Bakehouse is my go-to for all my baked good needs for whatever occasion. I've given their breads as wedding shower gifts, gotten bags of pastry for afternoon tea, done Mother's Day with their goods. Just amazing all around. Everything here is spectacularly delicious and I cannot recommend them enough. Their flavors are punchy yet balanced, their lamination is a thing of beauty, and I dream about their pastries when I'm away from Albuquerque. Cannot recommend enough. The singular problem I have is that the Bakehouse has ruined me for nearly all other patisseries because they're SO GOOD. Get there early before everything's gone :)

Everything I’ve tried has been excellent. I’ve gone once a week for the last 5. ABQ was starving for a bakery like this. There is almost always a line , but it goes fast enough . I started off trying all the pastries, both sweet (almond is my fav so far ) and savory ( ham and cheese is a satisfying meal) , the tomato pie . Now I am content with a loaf of great crusty sourdough for the week. I have tried the olive, the pecorino, Pinon, and black pepper , and most recently the red Chile garlic. All were deeply satisfying . One thick crusty slice dipped in olive oil each day is a better treat to me than any of the sweets.

OMG! A+++++ This has been the best bakery that my wife and I have been to since we left Europe! The laminated dough, natural sweetness, and concept creations were incredible! We had a short 20-minute wait, but well worth it! There is no indoor seating as you stand inline outside of the bakery, wait your turn, order, then pick up your order a couple minutes later at the adjacent window. That said, please be sure to dress accordingly for the elements. The staff was very friendly, pasties and coffee were amazing. The only downfall of this place is, it's in Albuquerque and I live in Los Angeles. :-)

  • Gloria Quintana

So many wonderful things to say. I got there 10 minutes after they opened and there was a line around the corner (about a 15-minute wait), but it was so worth it!!!! At the expense of sounding hyperbolic, these pastries were, by far, the flakiest, most flavorful thing I’ve had in a long time. Each layer of bread, artfully prepared, an artistic creation. True intention and magic behind every piece of bread that was made there. It’s safe to say I really like this place. Highly recommend for delicious, light, and flavorful desserts. Next time, I will definitely be trying their savory options ✨

  • Gavin Knight

My partner and I absolutely love the seasonal coffees and the loaves of bread! The pear loaf is awesome and I think they put crack in the amoretto latte because that stuff is addicting.

The pastries here are SO GOOD. They are giving the best bakeries in much larger cities a run for their money. They're winning with lots of creative flavors and amazingly flaky pastry! Someone here really knows what they're doing with croissant dough. The highlights for me were the use of local ingredients, not a lot of places you can get green chile croissants or prickly pear cruffin (which were both AMAZING). The only downside was the line, at 8:30am on a sunday it was already around two sides of the building and it moves sloooowly. We waited literally 30 minutes.

  • McKenzie Johnson

I’ve been here a couple of times now and haven’t been disappointed. Their cruffins are delicious, though from what I can tell you have to get there early to snag one. I did stop by shortly before close the other day, expecting nothing left and, to my surprise, was able to pick up a load of sourdough. Also delicious and sold at a reasonable price if you know how much time goes into sourdough. If you like baked goods, do yourself a favor and stop by. They gave a nice assortment of both seeet and savory to please everyone.

  • Mark and Susan H

Fantastic pastries, both sweet and savory. My favorite is the calamansi danish, a citrusy, not too sweet choice. The potato danish is great, as is the green chile croissant. The baguettes are available from around 9 a.m. until they're gone and they alone are worth the trip. The espresso drinks are so good, as are the chai latte and the homemade root beer. The employees are friendly and welcoming, particularly the man who often works the counter. Can't recommend this place highly enough!

  • Alicia Pinsonneault

I had been meaning to try this spot for awhile and I can say that it far exceeded my expectations. I felt like I was Paul Hollywood judging something wonderful on The Great British Baking Show and wanted to shake someone’s hand for creating something superb! Some of the danishes were similar to pastries I’ve had in Europe and instantaneously made me feel nostalgic. The entire ordering and pick up process was seamless. I can’t wait to order again!

  • Angelo Mitchell

I was driving down Broadway this weekend coming back from getting planting seeds at the library. (Yes you can get free seeds from your local library) when we came upon this shop that I had not noticed. They don't have sign but there were a few people standing outside. Come to find out it's a sweet bakery with amazing little morsels. They even had coffee to go along with it. Definitely worth trying and getting some local breads and pastries.

  • zerzurajv

I can’t even come close to describing how wonderful this bakery is. Everything is amazing and the owners/workers are so nice. Their Saturday pickup service is very smooth and easy. 10 stars actually! EDIT: Now that they’ve opened their new location with the walk up window, I wanted to give an update to my original review. The bakery is still wonderful. The owners and employees are still super nice. I would still give them 10 stars.

  • Rachid Darbali Zamora

I recently visited this bakery and was blown away by the quality of their baked goods. The croissants were buttery and flaky, the bagels were perfectly chewy, and the cakes were moist and flavorful. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and there was a wide variety of options to choose from. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking for delicious and fresh baked goods. All the pastries are good. Make sure you go early.

  • Joshua Edwards

Absolutely amazing pastries. Definitely a pick up and go Bakery, as it's pretty much just a window you order at. That being said, these are hands down some of the best pastries in town. Flaky, buttery, and a great variety, every bite has such amazing flavors. Got 4 pastries, a coffee, and a hot chocolate for about $36, so prices aren't bad at all! Staff at the IL window were very friendly. Nothing but good things to say.

  • J Tinneny

I think Burque might make the best almond croissant in the United States … huge statement, yes (and I have no authority to make this claim)…. But it’s perfect and you need to eat it. My favorite treats are the almond croissant (obviously), sticky bun, and the chile croissant. I don’t have photos to share because I just ate my goods too quickly (oooops). Breads are great too. The staff is super friendly :)

  • Piia Perpetua Pfeifer

What tight lamination in every pastry that calls for it! A diamond in the rough with seasonal pastries that challenge premier institutions like Boudín and Magnolia, cronuts are so 2004, have you ever had a Boston Cream Cruffin tho?! Got the Rhubarb Danish because it's redheaded like me; yummy custard, confectioners sugar and the legendary lamination made it delectable. The tea with lemonade was a perfect combo!

  • Dawn S

This place is everything it’s hyped up to be. Here’s the play-get there around 7:30 if on the weekend and watch the line grow. Green chile croissant is very good, pecan sticky roll is very good. The Boston cream cruffin is knock your socks off delicious-the crème is perfection and the dark chocolate ganache is very high quality. It is the perfect amount of sweetness, which is to say not very sweet. Incredible

  • Josh Sharp

Hands down the best bakery in town. I could not recommend this place enough. The taste is just out of this world. There really on a next level. There "tomato bread" is some of the best pizza ive ever had. Everything is very astheticaly pleasing as well. Very photogenic especially if your an instagram foodie. Really hope this places lasts a long time in Albuquerque. I will definitely be making more trips here.

  • Alireza T Afshari

Ihato bakery was my top favorite bakery in whole city but after two time this place is my top one. They have variety of croissant and apricot one is my favorite. Their breads are really good to and I like banquets and chili sourdough bread the most. Only downside side for them are few coffee been brands and they are just open for 3-4 days of week that cause big line every time I go there. I give them 4.6 ⭐️.

  • Charles Borngrebe

On the pricier side but worth the cost. Exceptional in every way. Every pastry is phenomenal. I've never had a bread loaf but I'm sure they are excellent. Wonderful service. Even the drinks, which aren't even the main attraction, are superb. This is how you do a business. Instead of bitching about how people "don't want to work", you blow the competition out of the water. If I could give six stars I would.

  • Laura Wagner

As someone who lived in France, I wasn't expecting The Burque Bakehouse to rival French pastry--BUT THEY DO. And in some ways, they make more interesting products because they use local ingredients. Of late, I have adored: the plum Danish, the elote Danish, and the huckleberry croissant toast. From the usual, I love kouign ammann, canele, and the green chile croissant. But really, you can't go wrong here.

  • Kip (Kip)

I can't say enough about this excellent bread. I tried the red Chili and garlic Sourdough and the piñon Sourdough! I love that piñon bread. They have a large variety of the most delicious bread ever! The lines get long fast. Get there early! They are located about a half mile south of Central , on Broadway. This was once the home of Dairy Queen. I'm so glad this building is being put to good use!

  • Eric McCracken

I love this family owned and operated Bakery, They've been making delicious pastries for years. The baguettes come out at 9. Time your visit and get a fresh one! They are perfect in every way. Everything is magnificent. Id give 6 stars if I could. Some seriously gourmet pastries. Its easy enough from and to I 25 for a quick stop. There can be a wait, but the line moves quickly. Highly recommend.

  • Nadine Jenkins

Super sad that I didn’t love this place after reading all the raving reviews. My kouign-amann was hard as a rock and super dry. I’m wondering if the one I got was old or over baked. I’ve had amazing kouign-amann’s before and they are nice and crispy and flaky outside, and flaky and moist inside. The cruffin was better, but still quite dry. Super bummed, especially for the price.

  • Lauren Overbey

AMAZING! We grabbed one of just about everything when we were in town and everything was just incredible. The line went quickly and everyone was so friendly and kind. We spent the rest of our time in Albuquerque telling everyone we crossed paths with that they needed to come and try whatever they could get their hands on.

There is no place to sit, weird hours and days open, but really nothing else like it in the ABQ. Do yourself a favor and stop by. You will have to wait in line, but you will be very surprised by how unique, tasty, and just a great experience it is. The menu changes from time to time so make sure to grab anything that looks good as it might be different the next time.

  • Autumn Shepard

So I recently moved into Chelsea Village apartments, and today I was gifted a bunch of assorted baked goods by a kind stranger. I am not sure if she worked here or not, but these were absolutely delicious. Thank you so much to that kind person. The previous night I had cut my hand pretty badly, and this kind of made my day. You and your baked goods were the best!!

  • Stirling Spencer

The BEST bakery in all of New Mexico and possibly one of the greatest in the entire United States. A hidden gem. A diamond in the rough. Burque Bakehouse is a combination of artistry, highly skilled baking talent and exceptional customer service. An experience of mouth watering deliciousness that will have your eyes rolling back in your head.

  • Cecilia Gutierrez

Too good to not eat here every week or whenever you drive through! Created by those with an absolute LOVE for the craft of baking where profit is not the motive! Honest substance, amazing quality from the best sources because the owner really cares!! You will see one of a kind items, with new creativity every week and each season of the year.

  • Lil Rose-Wilen

I go here every couple months for the best pastries to have ever touched my lips... the almond croissant is my go-to. Last weekend I went and got a salted cashew cookie on a whim. I literally cried over this cookie. It is the most important event so far in my life. I cried again when it was over. Please keep this cookie forever.

  • Allie Arning

I love love love the Burque Bakehouse. I have never tried anything I didn't think was delicious, but if you're lost you can't go wrong with the almond or green chile croissant Best baked goods in town, maybe in New Mexico, maybe beyond? If you're having a rough day or a good day or an ok day, do yourself a favor and stop here.

  • Joseph O'Leary

Are you looking for a taste bud burst, An AM caffiene & sugar must... Well...... get in line at 8AM on the dime, Or you will be standing in the snakey line. But the wait is... oh so.. divine Because at the end....you can.... Relish on the Burque Bakehouse eye candy, And everything there is oh so deliciously dandy!!!!

  • Josh Levine

Wow, this place is not just great for ABQ - it is among some of the best bakeries this side of the Rockies. The pecorino bread is excellent. Everything else is also great and interesting. I don't know how they can turn out so much high quality product out of such an unassuming space. Worth going out of your way for.

My favorite bakery in the world! Words cannot sufficiently express how good these pastries are. And they have some fun drink options too. We like to go there with our dog since the ordering is via a walk-up window. Then we normally bring our goodies to the nearby Roosevelt Park for a picnic.

  • Emma Ortega

Omg! Words cannot describe how deliciously beautiful the baked goods are here! I love that they are located at the old Dairy Queen in San Jose! Place is amazing!! Red chili garlic bread sliced to make a grilled cheese is amazing! The pecan cinnamon roll perfection! I go every Sunday

  • Shamim Arman

This place is the real deal when it comes to croissants and innovative goodies with the mix of local ingredients. Customer service is great and coffee is amazing. I have no idea how they are making croissants and stuff this good with high altitude. No idea! Amazing and consistent!

  • Nancy Dressler

Amazing bakery. Unique baked goods, highly recommend making the trip to down town. We drive 3 hours to Albuquerque for hair appointments at the Atomic Cowgirl and Jason suggested trying the bakery. Excellent recommendation. Albuquerque is lucky to have such magnificent businesses.

  • Jenny Smith

10/10 Baked goods Their prices are ridiculous considering the area. No one from the South Valley can afford the prices, all of the customers are coming down from Nob Hill or other areas. Gentrification at its best. Get rid of the tip screen. Tipping? This is not a restaurant.

  • Saera Hanlon

Had a grapefruit Danish because I've never seen that before. Possibly the best Danish I've ever had. Fresh and flaky. I think maybe Paul Hollywood would have given a handshake. And their chai was delightful. Strong cinnamon and well blended. Yummy. Hope to go back soon!

I finally got bread, banana bread and sweet Boston cream I loved the banana bread it’s sweet, walnuts are perfect and the look beautiful. The seed bread perfect for sandwiches. Get here early or you’ll miss out on some of they’re most popular goodies.

  • Rick Vinyard

Fantastic artisan breads, croissants, and other unique baked goods. Always very fresh with ingredients that are top quality. The Boston creme is excellent with smooth dark chocolate and vanilla filling made with real vanilla bean and not overly sweet.

  • M Burns

Best baguette I have had anywhere- on any continent. Unbelievable. How they achieve this at altitude is a wonder. Maybe baguettes should be baked at high altitude. I no longer live in Albuquerque and I dream of these baguettes… and their kouign aman.

  • Kat Pittman

Amazing pastries with flavorful combinations. The line was about 20 minutes on a Sunday morning but so worth it. The elote danish was incredible as was their banana miso butterscotch cruffin. We will definitely be back the next time we are in ABQ.

  • Michelle Jones

If I could give it 10 ⭐ I would. This place is so awesome. While standing in line you imagine what goodness awaits you. Then you get to the window and they blow your mind with the selection. Don't let the line discourage you. It's worth it!!!

  • Rosa M Santana

Delicious homemade pastries. It's kind of pricey. I paid six dollars for an almond croissant. It was very good and I will do it again. They seemed to have a good clientele. It is a pick-up and go coffee and pastries local. Staff is friendly.

  • Katia

High quality baked items! I'm a baker/pastry chef and enjoy their products very much (you can get them at the farmers markets on weekends or order in advance fru their website). Nice people too! Definaltely the best baked items in the city!

  • Ian Stewart

Easily some of the best baked goods and pastries I've ever had. With plenty of sweet and savory options, and flavors ranging from traditional to the local southwestern variety, you're sure to find something to tickle your taste buds.

  • Glen Loppnow

Awesome pastries, with the unique "cruffin", croissant dough in the shape of a muffin with good things in the center and on top. Always have the Boston Cream cruffin Thu-Sun and then a special flavor that changes monthly, Sat-Sun.

  • Steve Hartig

Great bakery. Picked up a selection of croissants and so far the two we ate are great. Service was quick. Not cheap but probably a good balance of price and quality. Our only complaint is they didn’t have English Breakfast tea.

  • Bokismoki77

I only tried two things from this place. Twice baked Vegan almond Croissant , and French bread. The bread was very good, and Twice baked Vegan Almond Croissant was out of this world good. Will definitely go back for more.
