Shew service was bad today. Walked in at 12:30 in the afternoon, waitress didn't have menus, took us to a table near the geese with the previous guests leftovers still on the table. She said she will be back to clean the table, we didn't see her for the next hour. The other couple seated next to us got up and said they were going to another place as they weren't getting served. Then we discovered the gate at the back was wide open and my 5 year old almost went out onto the road. Another Indian lady who sits at the front desk came to take our orders, she was even worse. We ended up moving to another table for safety of the kids (Also had the previous guests leftovers still waiting to be cleaned up). My wife spotted the Indian lady who then took our orders. She messed up the kid's orders (incorrect meals which the kitchen had to rectify), so my wife and my food waited their with our kids drinks, finally the food came with the first waitress who said she will bring my coffee. She brought the coffee without milk and said "Ooh I hope the coffee is not cold". What a joke! The Indian waitress came through again and she then promised to bring the milk. We didn't see either waitress until we went to pay. I had the coffee black. Lol. We went to pay and the Indian waitress was relaxing at the front desk, the black waitress was behind the counter on her phone whilst the 2 male waiters were vigorously making drinks. I normally give a decent tip but this time I didn't. Sorry Chocolate Garden, you have a lovely place for kids but you need to up your waitress service.

I live in Joburg but I recently hosted my baby’s first birthday party at The Chocolate Garden in KZN after a high recommendation from a close relative. I was so disappointed by the lack of management and organization we experienced on the day of the party. 1.) Due to a high number of delivery trucks offloading supplies for the various events occurring at the venue, our decor service provider was held up in the congestion at the gate and unable to start our party setup on time. The delay was horrible. We were forced to begin the party an hour and a half later than planned with guests having already arrived. 2.) We didn't have space to setup a jumping castle as promised because of two other birthday parties happening on the same day and close to where we were. One of them occupied the space that was initially allocated for us. I don't blame them though because there were no demarcations from the venue management to indicate the jumping castle/ inflatable space for each party. Our kids were so let down as they sat and watched the other children enjoy their inflatables. 3.) Also, the private party area was not enclosed even though there is a gate to do so. We had strangers walking in and out of our party several times. As a first-time mom, I was looking forward to this celebration all year and wanted the day to be perfect and memorable for our family but it was just filled with stress and disappointment.

The Chocolate Garden is such a beautiful spot to spend the day at. The staff were so lovely and friendly, which always makes my experience at places feel so much better. Our waiter was also nice, he took our order which didn't take very long to arrive. Our food looked so lovely and tasted good too. He warmed our drinks up for us because it had gotten cold and was very helpful. My kids absolutely loved and enjoyed the play area and the animals. They were having so much fun and were entertained, which allowed my hubby and I to have some uninterrupted time together. My kids did not want to leave, so I will definitely take them back again. It was well worth it and a lovely experience. I would highly recommend visiting them. There is also accommodation and venue hire available.

Absolutely amazing place to keep the little ones entertained. There are play areas for them as well as animals which they can feed. My kids loved it.

Wow! I only found out about this hidden gem two months ago but when I did we went three times in one week! I have had both breakfast and lunch at The Choc Garden and both were outstanding. The food is beautifully presented and the portions very generous. The lamb curry toasted sandwhich is sublime and their sweet potato fries are heavenly. A must if you have little ones who can play on the jungle gym and observe the giant tortoises, ducks, bunnies and Guinea pigs. Set in a beautiful garden they also have facilities for children's parties and even weddings. Do yourself a favor and take your family!

A truly magnificent place literally a minute away from the main road and barely 10 minutes from King Shake Airport. A great place to grab a delicious bite to or from the airport. I never knew such a place existed barely 5 minutes away from my office...The set-up, food and service all complement one another. A magical, serene place for blending with nature...tranquility...Oh, and they have this absolutely friendly cat who is just too gorgeous for words. I enjoyed every minute and look forward to my next trip there.

  • Kiran Gopal

Be sure to check out this little gem, a short distance from the airport at the edge of Mt Moreland. The garden is absolutely stunning! So peaceful and tranquil. Take a walk through it and admire the beauty (you get to see some geese, tortoises and guinea pigs too) A great spot for Instagram photos. Service was good and friendly and I loved the cappuccino and chocolate cake. Definitely worth the trip. I highly recommend.

Will never go back here. The waitress told us to take a walk while she wiped our table clean, only for us to return and see another family sitting at the same table. I enquired at reception, only to be told by another waitress that we'll now have to wait for an hour for a table because they were overbooked and didn't have any tables available. But she made no attempt in trying to assist in getting a table. Very unprofessional.

  • Luke

This is a lovely place to spend some time. The gardens are beautiful and immaculately cared for. If you have kids, they will love it. There are bunnies, guinea pigs and other animals. There is also a jungle gym for the kiddies to enjoy. The food is well presented and the service is fantastic. The only thing I found peculiar is the significant lack of chocolate dishes to enjoy. Strange given the name of "The Chocolate Garden."

  • Raye Cullingworth

It is large and very spread out so the service is slow naturally. This is easily overlooked because of the relaxing atmosphere and generous hospitality on offer. The food and drinks are well thought out with something on offer for every taste. The kids area is everywhere so don't expect to see much of them. It is very safe and a lot of fun for children. There are a lot of animals in small enclosures.

  • jenny isherwood

We came here on a Saturday to meet up with friends and their children. It is a lovely setting, with lots of cute seating areas. They have a great play area for children and there are live rabbits and tortoises here too :). The food and hot drinks I had were all absolutely delicious! It wasn't busy, so lots of space to relax. The people working here were friendly and professional too.

  • nazira hoosein

Beautiful place spoilt by horrible food, carrot cake had fake tastless cream, not worth the price, its called the chocolate garden with very few chocolate items on the menu. The food traumatized me - very poor quality - especially the ground beef burger, if i can even call it beef. Customer service was lacking. Also, worst chicken snitchel I have ever tasted in my life.

  • Muhammed Moosa

They ran out of chocolate which I found humorous. Incredibly beautiful setting however. They had some animals for the kids to look at as well and a small outdoor swing and jungle gym installation. I do think they need more chocolate items on their menu and they need to maybe think about some minor branding issues but really beautiful space and decent service.

2nd time we're visiting and it's just as lekker as the 1st time. Wheelchair accessible. Security on site (helps to keep bunnies away from car wheels). Awesome, friendly staff, great atmosphere and fantastic coffee/cake. Wonderful venue to relax and/or keep the kids entertained with farm animals on site. Next time we'll go for lunch. …

  • Lara Sladden

Awesome venue, especially for kids, great food and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend to anyone with kids - I would also however recommend that the venue either trains their waitresses better or hire ones with a little more personality- was a little like dealing with a rock. Despite that will certainly be back

  • Wesley C

Excellent views ; good environment.... Just don't eat here ; overpriced meals and cakes but very poor quality ; the chicken stinzel was the worst I have ever tasted ; the beef burger is not even real or pure 100% ; the chicken wings are okay ;

Good food and service, lovely surroundings and the animals are a wonderful addition to keep the kids entertained. Went there recently, both burgers undercooked from frozen, no apology from management, just didn’t pay for the meal, very disappointing considering the effort made to get there.

  • Niresan

Great place to chill with family, lovely service and very nice atmosphere. The food was good too and was received on time with no hassles. This is great for a visit especially if you have kids, as there are ducks and bunny's on site, and even a play area. All round good place to visit.

Visited on 14 Feb 2020. Garden untidy and hadn't been deweeded or tidied. No vibe. Staff not very visible. No weelcome or intro to the place. No atmosphere. Coffee area untidy, mops and cloths and dirty dishes lying around. Play area and animals were a the only positives.

  • Meryl Booth

A gem in the middle of the canefields. Such a surprise. Family-centric. A clean animal farm without the animal farm whiffs. Beautiful private tables in a relaxed setting. Lovely outing. Great coffee. Chocolate cake looked like the most moist and rich... OHMYGOSH.

A beautifully quiet spot with so much to do for kids, yet still feels like a tranquil spot for the adults. A tasty menu with good options. Would love to see them supporting craft beer and adding a few local beer options for the parents. Thoroughly enjoyable.

  • Debbie Preston

The setting is stunning but unfortunately the food isn't good. The staff are nice but seem to be under pressure. We went on a day when there was no barman so the service was awfully slow We also heard the managers speaking down to staff which is unacceptable

  • Cole 007

Manager was rude without any people skills. Google said dog friendly, she said absolutely not!!! No dogs allowed here and practicalky chased us off the property even tho the dogs were in the car. Such a disgusting experience for Joburgers visiting Dbn!!! Wow

Delicious food and friendly service in a wonderful garden. Give yourself time to enjoy the serenity of the surroundings. The menu is simple, and breakfast and lunch only. Kids are well catered for with a play area and a few animals to keep them occupied.
