I was fortunate that my parents made funeral arrangements with Van Orsdel many years ago. It insured that their wishes were met with regard to their specific preferences, and it lifted a huge burden off of my shoulders at an already difficult time when my mother passed recently. I’m also grateful that Van Orsdel was the place that they chose to make those arrangements, because my experience with them was stellar. From my very informative pre-need meeting with Henry, to the brief but warm encounter I had with Florence, to whom I dropped off my mother’s last outfit, and also Frank the Funeral Director who was so professional and comforting on the day of her service, and Dwayne who made sure her transportation went off without a hitch, I felt I was getting the finest possible service on one of the saddest days of my life. In addition to all of the above, my mother really looked beautiful, and that may have been the most comforting thing of all… Van Orsdel is a family run business that has been around for many, many years, and that level of experience really came through for me when I needed it most — with kindness, compassion, and professionalism.

The funeral Directors Shante Westbrook (an Angel who held my hand through the planning process) and Frank Lopez made the funeral I planned for my Mother from New Jersey a beautiful experience and cost effective! Their communication was attentive, courtesy and responsive. Crystal and Heineken did a wonderful job coordinating the service and making my Mother look good for the funeral. Whenever I requested an adjustment, it was made quickly and accurately. Everything from the Staff, cleanliness of the bathrooms and chapel, to the flowers was beautiful! I was grateful to have all my funeral service needs met, Van Orsdel truly provides all the services needed for your funeral that is respectful and accommodating to all cultures and ethnicities. I love the on-line Tribute wall which was a great way for family and friends to send flowers, cards, light candles, and share personal photos and videos of your loved one, which is a great way to honor them. There are no words to explain how one is affected when a loved one passed. In our case, when my Father just passed away a few days ago, it makes me so happy and gives me and my Family inner comfort to know someone so amazing like Monica Vazquez is on the other end of the phone when you have to make this difficult call to make arrangements. Highly recommend Van Orsdel services to any family not looking to add any more distress to an already sad time. Akeem, Dwayne and the rest of the Van Orsdel staff were amazing. After the passing of my dad, they made sure everything was taken care of and that we were being fully supported. Akeem was with our family literally every step of the way, fine-combing through the entire process for us so that we had the most clarity and the least amount of stress. He was with us during our initial consultations (and answering every single one of our phone calls), helped us with all of the paperwork, welcomed and embraced our culture and provided religious accommodations, and made sure we were prepared for our travels back home with our dad. We felt safe, heard and loved by the Van Orsdel staff and I know my dad would have felt the same.

Losing a parent never feel right for child. I lost my last parent, my father, back in February after a short hospitalization. I never knew a soul could make the funeral process sooth and easy. I was sad and scared, but Florence, may God bless her, made this the best experience I can ever imagine. Florence, gave me and my family an exceptional service. From the beginning before the passing Florence made me feel comfortable with the process. From flower choice to change of schedule, plans, church service. She Supported me and my wife who was closed to my dad like we were her own family. Then, when she could not be there due to schedule, Mr Frank stepped in, who was also amazing. Van Oradell is the best place to be on the worst day of your life. Frank and the rest of the staff obviously care for their clients, the living ones and the ones that have passed on. When my father passed more than 10 years ago I met Frank who guided our family thru what we thought would be a terrible and scary process and made it a calm and peaceful transition for my much loved dad. Two years ago when my mother was being cared for by hospice I was asked who would be handling my mom. There was no other response than Van Orsdal. One month ago today I lost the love of my life and again Frank and staff helped me make it thru. Being out of state this was a difficult process. After calling several places and being very dissatisfied I called Van Orsdel. Our Funeral Director Akeem is a very caring, professional and on top of everything. I never had to worry or follow up as Akeem was there every step on the way and a step ahead at all times. Akeem. explained everything including forms that needed to be signed and why. Akeem.was.also wonderful with suggestions when our family wasn't sure about some decisions. In tough times like your dear ones passing away, you need people who really care for your needs, and understand your urgency. I had to get my loved one shipped across the country, and I contacted multiple funeral homes. Including the famous ones who claimed to be partners with American Airlines. They simply didn't had the urgency or drive to move fast. Akim Skinner is an amazing guy, and really did the hustle to get paper work signed from doctors, and filed with county for death certificates. He did the whole process within a day and 1 day later got everything arranged up. I met him in person as well, and I can tell the stewardship these folks have to do things right. I hope I don't have to but if I have to I would highly recommend Van Orsdel to anyone over commercial funeral homes.

Losing my father last month was the most difficult experience thus far that I have had to experience. I had no idea how to go about making all the funeral arrangements especially considering our Hindu customs, however Akeem and his team at Van Orsdel Midtown were excellent and very helpful and informative during the entire process. Their kindness, patience and compassion from the first phone call, to the planning stages, to the final funeral service was amazing. The funeral home is very nice, warm and accommodating and the funeral service and cremation was a great final farewell for my father. I recommend Akeem and his team at Van Orsdel should you have the unfortunate need for their services.

This is where my mom chose to have her viewing and funeral service. She wouldn’t have it any other way. Being that she was a daughter of one of the original funeral homes here in Miami. Gautier Funeral Home. She said that this family would provide all of the traditions and respect that the family deserves in a time of mourning. She was right. I can’t begin to thank Akeem Skinner for helping and guiding us through the whole process. He made it easy and was the most respectful person I have come across in a long time. I cannot begin to state how grateful I am to have chosen this place to take care of my dad. It’s been the hardest hit that I’ve faced but Akeem really helped me through the process. He went above and beyond to make me feel supported throughout this journey and is super respectful and understanding of the fragility of the situation. You performed courteously, compassionately and professionally. We did feel however, that you all could be better supported by the owners in updating the funeral home, its facilities, and props. For example, It would be nicer to have the coffin rest on an elegant platform instead of a gurney in the chapel of rest. Not taking anything away from the team who have the gratitude of our whole family.

During this very difficult time, where my brother and I were pretty clueless as to how to plan for funeral services, we were relieved by the compassion and guidance received by The Van Orsdel Funeral staff. We held a very small service, they were able to help us locate clergy at our request and handled everything beautifully. Akeemʼ was great from start to finish, including meeting me on his day off to deliver the ashes of my mother. We highly recommend him and this organization.

I lost my mom in January 2021 unexpectedly to covid. It has been devastating. The experience of losing a loved one is horrible and having to plan a cremation is even more difficult when you're grieving. Frank Lopez from Vans Orsdel was amazing! He went above and beyond to help our family thru this horrible loss. Frank Lopez made the experience alot easier because of his willingness to help and reassure the families their loved one is in good hands. I truly appreciate it.

Akeem and Van Orsdel were so helpful and reassuring when it came to taking care of my father and his remains. Living in another state, they made sure walk me through the entire process and were always available to help. I could not recommend them more. Death is already a painful/stressful time, Akeem and his team made sure that their process was not. Whether in state or out of state, trust them to take care of your loved one.

The loss of a loved one is never easy. Dealing with a loss across many miles is especially difficult. From the first phone call with Frank, his team was beyond helpful and caring. A special note to Shante, with whom I had several conversations-she readily answered all concerns and questions with compassion and understanding. Although my family member had passed, I know he was well taken care of, with dignity and respect.

Akeem was very understanding, warm and prompt to assist my needs within record time. He was knowledgeable and a good listener, he accommodated my broken heart. Despite my language barrier and desperation he was very cordial and collected. I will always be grateful for your kindness and easy and accurate problem solving. On top of the pain and confusion surrounding the death of my father, my family and I were also dealing with a very unhelpful funeral home. I am so grateful we eventually came upon Van Orsdel. When our mother passed, my sisters and I did not know the process. The staff at Van Orsdel walked us through everything and were very helpful. We had a slight delay with the doctor’s signature, but they were able to resolve it quickly and have everything ready in time for her service. We especially liked the fingerprint jewelry that they offer. My sisters and I each got one and it is very special to us.

We are very grateful for the service we were provided during our difficult moments. We were shown genuine kindness, respect and tact throughout the entire process.
