We had to put down our beloved German Shepherd, Minnie yesterday and the staff at Beattie Pet Hospital (Ancaster location) somehow managed to make this already heartbreaking experience even worse. My dog had a very painful osteosarcoma in her left leg, however that had likely spread throughout her body. In short, she was already in a lot of pain and discomfort despite heavy pain medications. Initially, they mentioned that they needed to gain IV access to give our dog the sedation medications. They didn't offer anything to make my dog more comfortable during IV access. They tried to gain IV access while she was sitting up and she became agitated and started growling at them and tried to run away, understandably. The cherry on top is the rude receptionist just came in with a stone cold, blank look on her face and asked us for our payment in the middle of all this chaos with Minnie being agitated and the vet techs failing to get IV access. She clearly does not understand the idea of there being an appropriate time to complete certain tasks. The vet techs didn't seem to have any other ideas after this other than 'taking her to the back' but I didn't trust them with our dog alone. I then had to ask them myself if there's any topical numbing agent they can try to put over the access site to make her more comfortable. They should have offered this THEMSELVES instead of me having to ask after failing to gain IV access. They then tried again but again my dog became extremely agitated. I was getting very frustrated at this point because this dog is already suffering enough and we at least wanted the euthanasia procedure to go as smoothly as possible. Again I had to ask them MYSELF if there's another way. I had to mention MYSELF that perhaps we can do an intramuscular injection or anything else other than IV access because my dog was so scared and agitated at this point thanks to these technicians. They finally suggested they could do an intramuscular injection to sedate her and THEN try IV access but it as only because I had suggested it first. This is completely unacceptable to me. If I was not in healthcare, maybe I would not have known to ask these questions. However the staff successfully agitated my dog two times at the end of her life, scared her and then finally gave her sedative meds via IM injection, which they should have done IN THE FIRST PLACE. In healthcare, there is a concept of informed concept where you give the patients ALL of the options upfront. Shouldn't they have known that such a large German Shepherd would fight back and get agitated during an IV access attempt? Shouldn't they have known to sedate her through IM injection first and then attempt IV access? But no, they made our precious Minnie suffer with two failed Iv access attempts. The second time that they failed to get IV access, there was blood dripping down her paw. Minnie was like a daughter to my mom and my poor mother had to witness all of this nonsense as well. The only solace we have now is that we all loved Minnie more than words can express and we all gave her an amazing life. She lived to be 13 years and 4 months and we are thankful for every moment we had with her. However, I am truly unhappy with Beattie Pet Hospital's (Ancaster location) management of our Minnie at the end of her life and I would suggest to other potential clients to find a different pet hospital for their beloved pet's end of life needs as our experience was very bitter.

Brought in our cat who we thought had a small seizure, but after the initial panic, she seemed back to normal. Still, we booked an emergency appointment out of worry. After waiting over an hour after our emergency appointment time, with our cat in their back room, we got asked if we wanted a blood test and xray. We said yes, panicked for our pet. After another hour of waiting, we were asked if they could give her an I.V and some meds to calm her down, and that it would be better for her, since she was panicking. We said yes, wanting her to be in comfort. During this time, we heard a lot of talking from the back, including 'Well, if she's acting like this, she's not dying', but we didn't know if that was about our Honey or another animal. After being told they'd bring us a consent form to leave her there for another hour while they finished 'the testing', we were left alone for an hour and 20 minutes, as it turned out they'd forgotten about it. After that we just elected to wait, because things were starting to seem odd. When we finally got to see our cat again, she was drugged, and they warned us that she 'would have bruising on her back legs' from struggling. She had bruises on more then just her back legs, and was a completely different acting cat, wheezing, scared and hurt. She died 30 hours later, struggling to breath, and barely able to move. Today we finally got the test results back. There was nothing wrong with her but a speck in her lungs, certainly nothing that could have been lethal. So after charging over a thousand to make sure our cat was 'okay', and making us wait over 4 hours to even see her again, Beattie killed our cat. Do not go here, please. We're still grieving our little Honey, as is her sister, but maybe what she had to suffer can save someone else's best friend. Do not go here, and if you have to, make sure you keep your pet in your sight at all times.

Brought my German shepherd in who we already know can be difficult at the vet. Prior to bringing him, we explained all the issues he’s had prior and made requests to see a female vet WITHOUT the white coat (he has had a bad experience prior and we’re trying to think of everything to make this trip smooth as possible). We waited for half a hour for the tech to come in despite having an appointment which led my dog to start getting anxious. And waiting even longer for the vet. The vet came in wearing her white coat, and immediately started touching my dogs ears which then led him to become scared. No time was taken to greet my dog or make him feel comfortable whatsoever. She handed a couple treats and gave up after the first try and went to get a muzzle which he would not allow us to put on now that he was already scared. They gave us drugs to calm him down for next time (over $100) and a pamphlet on how to muzzle train and sent us on our way. I’ll be trying another vet chain altogether in hopes they might have some standard of care. I was there for 1.5 hours in total and saw the vet for all of 10 minutes. I understand the importance of muzzle training however, no one took any time or effort to even try to make him comfortable before poking and prodding. UPDATE: they called us and said if we removed this review they would sell me a muzzle (the ones vets use) at their cost and if I did not remove this I would have to pay for it at a marked up price. I have two large breed dogs and I won’t be bringing either of them back there.

If it is possible to give them 0, I would definitely do that. I'm not really one to leave bad reviews, but this was really too much. Two months ago, we brought the dog for an examination and consultation regarding travel documents. Received totally invalid information. At the same time, they emphasized several times on phone and in person, that the dog will traveling, asked for steps, and received completely accurate instructions. No one signs their work completely nameless on any paper, and you have to follow every step of what they write, what they do, mistakes in every step. Totally without training, the staff just wanders and is out of sync. Before the day of the trip, imagine they knowing the procedure that does not agree at all with the previously issued instructions. The first thing they offer are tablets for drugging animals. When I was making an appointment, they say on phone one price, and when you come to pay three times the price for the service that their employee said over the phone. The dog is completely healthy and vaccinated not in their office. And the complete experience with them is over $600. Without the finished work and the question whether the dog will be able to travel at all because we do not have an appointment with the CFIA. CFIA they didn’t mention on several phone calls or on first appointment. Appalled by their business and manner of treatment, approach and amount of carelessness. And imagine what would happen if the dog needed some treatment from their side?

On Saturday my baby Ginger (Orange tabby) had vomited blood so of course I went straight to Google for open vets near me. Our usual vet isn't open Saturday and Beatties was my only choice. Hesitant because of reviews and the seriousness of the situation, I decided this is my only option. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Of course with the struggles we all have with financials I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to be priced gouged at the expense of my sick fur baby. I had a good conversation with the receptionist to put my mind at ease. The Dr. Was very thorough in explaining what we needed to best diagnose ginger and the cost was fair. I didn't feel like a "cash grab" like other reviews have suggested. We are now almost 48 hours from the visit Ginger being diagnosed with pancreatitis and with the medication he was prescribed he is already showing signs of coming back to life. If this had of went in another direction and ginger didn't win the battle beatties staff did what they could and the rest is up to Ginger. I would recommend this location to anyone and everyone I know. Thank you for saving my baby.

I’ve never been here before but figured I’d give it a try. I brought my cat in for her annual vaccines. We waited for over an hour to see the Vet. Eventually the vet came in, was grabbing my cat in weird places and kind of agitating her. She called an assistant to help administer the vaccines. They threw a towel over her head and held her down, all while repeatedly jabbing her in the back legs/paws with the needle but did not inject any of the vaccine. They said they were unable to administer the vaccines at this time and tried to prescribe a sedative for my cat to take before coming back another time to try again. Complete money grab, and the way they handled my cat, ANY animal would be upset. This was borderline animal cruelty. Now I understand these bad reviews. I don’t recommend going here

Long story short . I had been taking all of my cats and dogs here for the past 6-7 years . My last visit was the last though . The vet was petrified of my dog . Absolutely petrified. My dog is the sweetest boy ever and has never hurt anyone or any other animal . How are you a VET and you are SCARED of a dog ? Just absolutely ridiculous I have changed vets and will not be coming back as i want the best care for my animals . Seems to me they just want there paycheques over there because someone who actually wants to be a vet isnt scared of a dog thats showing absolutely no signs of agression . Hope this helps anybody moving forward

Very unpleasant experience with this pet hospital. Our dog is very healthy, I we brought him just to be examined so we can travel out of country. We came twice and were charged around $620, and at the end of the day, we did not get travel certification, but we're told to go to the government agency for the final certification. Nobody from the hospital explained to us what actually the procedure was, and thus, we were left without the cerifification, just less than 24 hours before the flight. Certainly, I will avoid this pet hospital as a very unprofessional and money grabber.

Quality of service has gone down hill since I started taking my pets there.Had a 3pm appointment, tech never came in the room til 3:20. Once tech finished she said will be in shortly. 3:45 I told staff I had 3pm appointment. Vet eventually came in at 3:55. Told him I had 3pm appointment. His response was they were on lunch from 3 til 4pm. My question was why book in patients during so called lunch time. Not very responsive. I'm changing vets. Not impressed any more.

Just brought my miniature dachshund in for the first time - she was getting spayed. Vet tech was amazing and explained everything prior to the procedure. Vet came in with a very calm and assured demeanour which helped settle any nerves I had. She ended up needing to come back because one of the stitches ripped - the staff were quick to get her back in and resolve the issue.

Had euthanized our 20year old cat, vet tech explained the process for memorial, told us regardless of what we choose a memorial paw print would be taken and provided to us, apparently she was wrong, the memorial company didn't provide one without a direct request nor did Beaties. Not looking forward to telling my daughter there will be nothing. Absolutely unacceptable.

Beattie pet hospital was the only vet in the area that was willing to see my injured cat on the spot. Everyone was friendly and immediately let us into a room so that we were not surrounded by other animals. They were gentle and provided knowledgable information for her care. Very pleased with Beattie hospital.

Having three senior pets can sometimes be nerve-wracking. The staff at Beattie Pet Hospital in Ancaster have always been kind and compassionate both to my boys and to me. Having evening hours is a huge bonus, as I am able to schedule appointments outside of work hours. 100% recommend.

Accepted my cat last minute due to his condition. They kept him for the day and gave him some medication to help, he seems to be doing much better now! Vets called to check up on him to make sure everything is going well too!

Customer service is excellent. Prices are lower than anyone else. My nervous, old cat hates new places and new people but he was comfortable and friendly with the vet. I am very happy I found them.
