Hospital's Long Wait! I am writing this review to express my profound disappointment in the service and overall patient experience we encountered at your hospital. I cannot stress enough how utterly unpleasant and exasperating the situation was for both the patient and accompanying family members. We were instructed to arrive at 8:00 a.m., and we followed these directions diligently, understanding the importance of promptness in healthcare. However, what we expected to be a display of efficiency and respect for our time turned out to be an absolute debacle. We were left waiting for hours with no substantial update on what was causing the delay or when it would be resolved. My particular complaint relates to the treatment of an elderly patient, whose comfort and health were largely disregarded during this ordeal. This person, already anxious and in discomfort, was made to wait for an inordinately long time without any consideration for their wellbeing. Not only was this experience physically uncomfortable, it was also emotionally distressing. In a healthcare setting, it's paramount to communicate effectively with patients and their families. Keeping us informed about possible delays or changes to our schedule would have been appreciated and would have lessened the distress significantly. Instead, we were left in the dark, adding unnecessary tension and anxiety to an already stressful situation. Moreover, the seeming indifference of the hospital staff was both disheartening and alarming. In an industry built on empathy and patient care, we were met with an apathetic approach that belied the very essence of these principles. While I understand that healthcare professionals are under significant pressure and deal with a myriad of responsibilities, the lack of basic courtesy and communication we experienced cannot be justified. In closing, our experience at your hospital was less than satisfactory. It's extremely important that medical institutions recognize and rectify issues like these. Patients entrust their health and wellbeing to you, and they deserve respect, clear communication, and efficient service in return. Your hospital needs to reevaluate its patient care procedures and policies, especially those related to the scheduling of appointments and communication of delays. It's crucial to remember that patients are people, not numbers on a chart, and deserve to be treated as such. We hope that our experience will prompt necessary changes and ensure that no other patient has to undergo such a frustrating and uncomfortable experience.
I attended Footscray Hospital via ambulance with my grandmother who does not speak English and was terrified of attending the hospital after a prior horrific experience at Sunshine hospital. I insisted that the paramedics bring her here instead as she was more comfortable. I convinced her to come by assuring her that I would remain with her the entire time. As the paramedics brought her through the back entrance, I was allowed to stay with her. While waiting for a bed in the treatment area, I excused myself to attend the bathroom in the waiting area. I let the clerk know on the way out that I would return and she acknowledged my comment. As I tried to re-enter the treatment area, the same clerk (Robyn) would not allow me through, stating that I was not allowed to be with her until she was assigned a bed (which could be hours). I explained that she does not speak English and that I was her interpreter. I also explained that she was experiencing a lot of anxiety about being at the hospital and did not want to be left alone. Robyn was not phased. She refused me entry to the treatment area with a very nasty attitude. This caused major anxiety for both myself and my grandmother, who was admitted due to heart palpitations and did not need the added stress caused by the actions of this clerk. I am appalled and disgusted. I have attended Western Health hospitals on various occasions with family members and have never before been refused entry as a visitor. I was even allowed to remain with my grandmother when we came in via ambulance during peak Covid in 2021. Absolutely no regard for patients/families health and comfort.
I would like to share my experience about this hospital,I broke my Tibia & Fibula bone on 21st May 2022,Where I was so worried & thought I may not able to walk again but here Orthopaedic Doctors Daniel Sydenham & Shaun they helped me to walk again in my life,I really don't Know other doctors names but I am thankful to all the Surgeon's & Doctors who had been Involved in my Surgery.I would also appreciate all the Nurses & Canteen Staff where everyone was so polite when I was admitted in the hospital. I also want to mention Gordon, Graduate Nurse Where he was so helpful to me in assisting for my basic needs & monitoring medication as he was on Daytimes most of the time & even all other Nurses but sorry to say as I can't remember all other Nurses names but I am very thankful to all Staff's& Nurses Once again. I even like to mention about Williamstown Hospital as well, As after my Surgery I was shifted to Williamstown Hospital & I would appreciate here all the Staff's,Nurses & Physiotherapy as everyone helped me in recovering my Injury.I remember one Registered Nurse Catherine who use to work in Night Shift was so helpful for my all basic needs & medication,Once again I am thankful for all Doctor's,Surgeon's,Nurse's & all Staff Members for my recovery during this Pandemic Period. I got more oncoming appointments for my routine checks but as for now everything is going in right direction, In Conclusion I would say as a Patient we must be Co-operative & Polite so that would really help the Doctors & Staff members to look after anyone.
I was recently admitted here. I must say the ER nurses and two of my nurses in the ward including a male nurse and a trainee who is pregnant took great care of me but after their shifts, the rest of the nurses were horrifying. I was hoping to get out of the hospital fast because I was getting scared at the doctors and staff there. They did several mistakes while I was admitted, poking the wrong needles several times and cutting themselves which meant they needed more blood from me. Especially the doctors, were terrifying. One of the doctors tripped over the IV in my hand, blood was pouring out everywhere and the nurse or doctor laughed at the situation. I was crying.. after they left. I wish I could speak but couldn't speak much because I was in pain, a lot of medication and no food for the whole day, I never saw those doctors again. PTSD from this whole situation. Then a few days later I had a nurse throw out my dinner without asking me while I met my family downstairs because of their 2 visitors policy. I'm scared to go to the hospital. I applaud the doctors for making my Halloween the most realistic yet!
I asked the Ambulance to take me to this hospital only because of its proximity. 4 hours wait for the so called 'Triage' in the corridors. The Ambos were excellent. They had to wait for 4 hours and we are told that there are shortages of Ambulances! In any event, 1 night on monitors in 'Emergency' and was told I would be admitted to the hospital for 1 night. This turned out to be six nights and the GEM (General Medicine) was conducting all sorts of tests with no answers as to why I was being held. It would appear this department has no patients in the hospital and whoever is unlucky to be under their supervision gets this sort of treatment. I guess this department has to be seen to use these services. Sloppy Doctors! They don't even turnup for their daily rounds. There are a lot of deserving people who are waiting for a bed and this hospital does not really care. Damian
A few weeks ago I was at this hospital. When checking myself in, the receptionist’s weren’t all that polite.. they didn’t ask for my name or circumstance, just told me to sit and wait. Obviously I don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors, they could’ve been dealing with a lot that day. After my sister explained the urgency, I was approached by a nurse with the most calming demeanour. She was so understanding, patient and caring. It didn’t take long to be admitted, then the process was very smooth and efficient. The doctor I had was amazing, checking on me every spare moment he had and making sure I was well looked after. All the nurses who monitored me over night were nothing short of wonderful also! This was my first hospital visit in Australia, and I couldn’t of asked for better people to help in my time of need. Thank you!
Absolutely disgraceful. Patients waiting over 5 hours to get seen. If you want to stay in pain and waste your night in the waiting area feel free to come to this place. The administration clerk are absolutely rude and have no empathy for human life. They are to busy chit chatting away and ignoring patients waiting to get checked in or ask a question. When you finally get to talk to the administration clerk they give you attitude and are rude it’s like they got angry because you interrupted there conversation. Absolutely disgusting of a place and people. The staff are so unprofessional. 4 people have come before us got seen. 2 of them who got seen and left. When asked how long after 4 hours of waiting they told us they can’t say. The most unprofessional hospital I have ever attended.
MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE Is the only word to describe my families interaction with footscray hospital. My partner was admitted to FOOTSCRAY Hospital with acute stomach pains. Since being at the hospital they have breach there duty of care by giving her wrong dosage of her daily medication even after been told several times. This caused her current condition to escalate causing her to go into cardiac arrest and code blue called twice , further complicating her conditions. During this whole ordeal the hospital staff refuse to communicate or liaise with immediate family members about the patients current conditions. If I could give zero stars rating I would have . PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS NEGLIGENT FOOTSCRAY HOSPITAL.
A friend was hospitalised with massively infected diabetic leg ulcers and they sent him home without cleaning or dressing any of his infected wounds, they just gave him a script for antibiotics and wheeled him to the carpark where no one was going to meet him and then went back inside (he was unable to walk or stand up). A week later he had bleeding in his kidney and was admitted to the hospital for an embolism. One of the worst hospitals un the state next to sunshine hospital. Heavily understaffed and what staff they do have are rude, they show no empathy, and treat patients like a burden and many are not fully trained for the departments they work in.
This is the only hospital that I've been to that does not have any information pamphlets for whatever you are being treated for. (Not one single pamphlet in any of the departments.) Also, nurses and doctors each have different opinions on your care needs (plan). Each one gives different information regarding your treatment care plan. Patients end up so confused about what they are being treated for, as well as their care plan for when they go home. Some nurses are very rude and don't listen to the patient. Although there are some very lovely staff.
Definitely the waiting hours are just no for human beings, it took me 12 hours to get attended by a doctor after the triage. Once you get see by doctor everything gets better, they gave me a bed and the exams i needed. But think it twice before coming, you must wait for several hours. You better go to other place if you are suffering serious pain because it doesn't matter how much pain you're in, they will no give you priority.
i was yelled at by doctor because i was unable talk properly and didnt have issue investigated at all and sent home with paracetamol. triage lied about my admission details. nurses were lovely however. i wouldnt trust this hospital with my life. i feel like if i was stabbed they would tell me i had the flu and that it was entirely my own fault. would give it 0 stars if i could. every experience ive had here has been awful.
I would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Footscray Hospital when I came to the emergency department on the 15th of August. I came in quite distressed with severe chest pains and they were just wonderful. From the lady who checked me in, the nurses and doctors were so comforting and supportive. I cannot thank them enough. As it turns out there was nothing seriously wrong with me. So a big THANK YOU to all.
Long waits for surgeries and wait times can take over an hour for a booked appointment. A Dr or two aren’t helpful but staff do their best with the pressure and demand they are under. I have been going to this hospital since birth. They are doing more renovations so it should more upgraded within the next few years. Apart from that staff and nurses are great. Cafes and plenty of food and coffee to grab whilst you wait.
After around 10 visits to see around 8 different wars and doctors I can say that standards are really mixed between individual doctors and wards. I found consistency between the nursing and admin staff which is a very high standard. I wouldn’t give this Hospital a blanket recommendation but it can be good, but just be aware that things do vary at every professional health care provider.
Hospital is located at a convenient location. Carpark is easily access through Gordon Street. Their hourly park rate is by far less expensive comparing to the Royal Women Hospital. If you are there for a quick drop off. First half a hour is free. Average hospital but it will be nice if the government spend some money here for a renovation. Not far from highpoint shopping centre.
I recently visited the emergency department and the nurses were amazing! One nurse in particular who took care of my brother (who has an intellectual disability) was so compassionate and understanding of his needs, which made his first ED experience not so frighting, as he was in a heightened state already. I’m very grateful to have had her as his nurse! Thank you ☺️
This is my first time coming to the hospital. Comparing to royal, northern, sunshine hospital this is the first time I have been taken in so fast. It was so quick that I didn’t had to wait at all. Probably because it is a Monday morning that it’s not crowded at all. Staff are excellent, friendly and kind. Just waiting for treatment. Hopefully everything goes well.
I'm in the fast track waiting area and have been left here with no attention for quite some time. The female doctor is criticising other patients and I can clearer hear her unprofessionalism. I also overheard a female talking about 'doing a dodgy'. Hardly a welcoming environment. While hospitals are busy, this is an excuse and it looks like amateur hour to me.
No empathy what so ever. I emailed the elective bookings department after they tried calling me, I explained my situation and told them I will wait for a reply back but they never replied. We need to fall on our knees at their beck and call , drop everything and do as you're told or else you miss the boat. I can't believe how bad the public system has become.
I took my friend to outpatient - reception to check in. I waited 14 minutes in-front of reception - there was 6 receptionist working- they were busy talking to each other. One of them was calling the patients. Took receptionists another 5 minutes to check us in - all these could be done much faster. Technology and fund is here. No proper management. .
Went into emergency with pain in my lower abdomen. Was triaged through quickly, got ct scan and went straight into surgery as my condition was life threatening. Spent 6 days in the hospital being cared for by the most amazing staff. Thank you to all who treated me and cared for me You saved my life, and I will forever be truly grateful ❤️
First and last time using this hospital. Now I know why this is known as the worst hospital in Victoria, an absolute disgrace! They got my name and date of birth wrong after being told it 3 times then still got my date of birth wrong again then had the hide to have attitude about it. I am seeking legal advice over the privacy breeches
I can count on one hand the nurses that I thought were effective practitioners, compassionate and had empathy. This comment does not refer to these nurses. This hospital is the worst. No communication with family. Denied my mother water when she asked for it (this was resolved by the doc). I could go on with numerous stories...but...
I've had very negative experiences here. I never imagined that I would be giving Footscray Hospital 5 stars. However, the staff in the Coronary Care Unit are the entire reason for these stars. My beloved aunty passed away here very recently and the doctors and nurses of the CCU could not have been more caring. HUGE THANK YOU!
Don’t use J Lift - has the tendency to breakdown. - All staff are lovely though - Pharmacy department is the slowest expect wait times of 1-4hrs (note you can’t leave unless the pharmacy signs off on your medication, 1-4hrs to check meds 1-2hrs for them to process the medication) you’d think a hospital would be fast at this?
We flew in from Tasmania for my husband to have surgery and at every step of the way, the staff were courteous, informative, friendly and very helpful. We cannot fault the hospital for the level of care provided . THe food in the Cafeterias is also worth trying if you are from elsewhere and the coffee is good.
I visited the Emergency Department for two short stays recently. I found the staff to be very helpful. The Nurses and Doctors were wonderful and kept me up to date at all times. I could not have been more impressed with the treatment I received. Thankful to have this Hospital close to my home.
Day surgery Staff were caring amazing and compassionate. Made me feel welcome and at ease. Nurses Dr and reception were all amazing. On arrival a lovely volunteer showed us the way to admissions as I was lost. Happy with my overall experience Thank you Sunshine Day surgery
Spent 5 hours in the ED and had to plead to be seen. Doc then came and spent 3 min with me before telling me they wouldn't fix my issue and to book an appointment with a GP. I realise there were more urgent matters than mine but surely they could do better.
Was referred to the emergency department by a GP. The doctors were really nice but the nurses chose to make beds next to me instead of taking my IV out, as requested by the doctor, so that I could go home. Forced me to sit and wait for 2hrs
I have just completed my 3rd year Acute placement at Footscray hospital in ward 2 East. I had an amazing time throughout my placement. The staffs are so friendly and helpful. They have a great teamwork and the nurses are very caring for the
I was in here last week as I have anaphylaxis and had eaten peanut. The reception staff were very dismissive and when I burst into tears they said "you're fine, just breathe", which was very hard to do as I had just eaten a peanut. Waited
We went through emergency department 16th/03 7pm to admit my handicapped husband, he waited until 3.30am the following morning to be admitted for a serious foot infection, finally when admitted they put a 90year old alzheimers patient in
I was admitted to Footscray Hospital on Wednesday the 12/01/22 , after seeking medical advice from my local GP at the circle surgery at Altona, after suffering and presenting with chest pain. The care and advice I received at the Circle
I truly appreciate the outstanding medical service and care that was given to me during my recent stay at Footscray Hospital. The internal medicine team led by Dr. Elke Hendrich did an outstanding job in diagnosing my medical condition
The only positive I've encountered at any western health hospital over the last 4 years, were the reception and admin staff, who I've always found to be both polite and helpful. Unfortunately my experiences with both the emergency and
Big thank- you to Dr Sam urology reg . Your operation on my father in law 22/9/23 was a success. He became cather free & had a good quality of life. The aged care doctors need to follow your example. Lots of love, Catherine Aquilina.
Waiting in pain for 6 hours is not fun at the emergency department. I’m not blame the doctors and nurses . The government is to blame. Victoria turn to be third world country health system. Don’t come here if you want to die in pain
Very busy place food was horrible for visitors very scattered and building works were in progress the staff f there were fantastic escp8 in CCU and ICU I couldn't fault them. Like all nurses ovsrwork3d and underpaid
Waited for hours upon hours in severe pain sitting on a pilonidal cyst and I finally gt to the front of the line and then they accuse me of raising my voice when I clearly did NOT raise my voice!!!!
Worst experience waiting from last 5 hour no Doctor till now and they charged $550 upfront for emergency. I have to wait 5 hour for Dr in emergency seriously??
Excellent service , excellent staff. First time in a public hospital and we can't find fault in anything. Thank you so much to everyone at the hospital
I had a terrible experience with them. Nursing staff and orderly were very insensitive and aggressive. Doctors and physiotherapists were good though.
One of the best hospitals from the staff and their respect for time and accurate deadlines there was no delay and they took great care of my baby
I have no love for this hospital. Especially what they done to my father by giving him the wrong needles. What kind of world have we come to?
I just done my MRI and a nurse called Tommy looked after me he was so caring and explained everything well and so comforting.
Genuinely some of the nicest nurses you’ll get, shout-out to Julie in emergency for keeping us alive you the real mvp …
Excellent, every staff member from the reception to the nurses were so friendly in the ER. Thank you guys.
I have witnessed people dying in ED waiting room. Of of Melbourne's hospitals need to be better funded
