"Poorly managed branch"
"I love coming to this library it is so easy to check books out and drop the off"
"I understand masks and always wear my mask"
"I grew up mere blocks away from this location, so I will always have fond childhood memories of it"
"Toddler storytime at the Manchaca location was awful!! The person running it obviously does not understand children"
Poorly managed branch. Problems with printing and buying printing/photocopies on library card. Guy named Josh who works there lied and said I had 2 cards and was lying about losing money and swapped out cards to say this.... Very strange. A couple days later I saw him standing in the aisle reading for 30 minutes when he was supposed to be putting back books on the shelf. Poor integrity. I find the people at this branch very poorly educated and they provide terrible customer service- should be better monitoring of employess and also better system to buy copies on copy card. Josh lied about me losing money so I lost a full dollar on my card and management also thinks I lied. Very disappointing experience to say the least. I feel like I am dealing with the old south. I have not found this type of behavior at the downtown branch overall but they are more skilled at dealing with people having a large homeless population using their services daily. I suggest that the people at the Manchaca branch get rotations downtown so they can be better skilled dealing with different people and their issues. This small branch is very insular and biased, however there is very few homeless people there using their services.
I love coming to this library it is so easy to check books out and drop the off. Let me explain, once you have your library card you can go online reserve books from any Austin library (there are a few) and have them sent to your library and pick them up. Once books are ready to be picked up you will receive an email that they are ready. Once you get there you find your reserved books going straight back from the entrance and then place your books on the checkout machine, scan your library card, email your confirmation and you are good to go. When returning book there is a slot on the left side of the building if you are in the back. This library also has alot of events that go on but I have never been to any. One thing I don't like is the left turn to get into this library. If there is oncoming traffic it could be awhile and you will be holding up the person behind you. I also dont like when you exit and have to turn right. It can be a pain to get into the left lane again to turn left at the light. Other than that i love it and recommend it.
I understand masks and always wear my mask.. but they need to understand that young children have a difficult time wearing a mask.. I’ve never had an issue until today. The security guard approached us and asked how old my toddler was. I said “he’s 2” and he proceeded to tell me we needed to leave because he wasn’t wearing a mask. I told him that my child would just remove the mask (we’ve tried many many times). He said it doesn’t matter and he needs to wear one or we cannot return. seriously?! My child has lived through this pandemic not being able to do so many things now we can’t go to the library.. super disappointing. I’m not gonna force my young child to wear a mask (I would literally have to hold it on his face). I get that “rules are rules” but when a child turns 2 that does not mean they Will understand why they have to wear a mask.
I grew up mere blocks away from this location, so I will always have fond childhood memories of it. It's been remodeled since then, and luckily it's still a charming little branch with the same cheerful and helpful staff (literally the same; I recognize some people from my Hardy Boys phase). It doesn't have the largest selection, and its parking lot is still irritating to exit from if you want to go north on Manchaca, but the former can be cured by having just placing holds on items in any branch and having them delivered here, and the latter can be ignored by just ignoring that fascist no-left-turn sign. I'm a little past the age where I spent a lot of time reading actually in the library, but there's still good seating if that's what you want to do. Can't ask for much more from a library.
Toddler storytime at the Manchaca location was awful!! The person running it obviously does not understand children. Telling toddlers they have to sit and be quiet. And then telling them to leave if they don’t, that’s ridiculous. I have been to numerous toddler storytimes, and this is the first time I’ve ever had somebody tell me my child had to sit down and be quiet. You need to find somebody that understands children! Obviously, the person you have now, has idea what’s she’s doing!!
This is a great library, also happens to be the closest one to my house. What I love most about this branch is the selection of comic books, there's almost always something to pique my interest. I hadn't been in a while and was reminded just how fast and easy book checkout has become. As always I can hardly believe it's all free and they've even gotten rid of fees on kid's books! All around awesome ! Go library!
I went here to work and it turned out to not be a very good experience. I'm very sensitive to energy and I felt very drained here. I believe it's a combination of the fluorescent lights, drab interior atmosphere, and the two large radio frequency broadcasting towers right outside.. This place is not a healthy environment in my opinion. That might partially explain why there were so many sick people here.
Austin has a wonderful public library system. I encourage everyone to become a member! I use the hold system regularly to have books/music/movies at other branches held for me at the Manchaca branch. I also download e-books and audiobooks which is such a cool service and all for free!
The late opening hours are not convenient for me, but after months of trying, I finally made it to the library! The gentleman at the desk was very polite and courteous in setting me up to get library card and showing me instructions to set up online access to e-book rentalsa
My grandson loves it here. So many interesting things to stimulate their little minds visually & physically. One of our favorite places to hang out. Staff members are so helpful & go beyond your expectations. Everyone works well together.
the library itself is fine but the parking situation is kind of ridiculous lol. it’s all 1 way so if you get turned around or miss a spot you’re sent back out on to the main road with no easy way to turn back.
Nice people helped me use a library computer after many months of not using one. Attended a volunteer meeting for the ATX TV Festival. Nice meeting room and clean restrooms. Shouldn't it be spelled Menchaca?
I love libraries and this one is great! The librarians work hard to make sure I have a great experience! They have tons of great books for readers of all ages! Whispers... they have books.
Library is closed except for book pick ups and drop off. It is open for curbside service and has employees stationed inside to assist you when you call the branch. Stay safe and stay educated!
Would not renew my library card. The book I had on hold for 2 months is now still sitting on the shelf. I no longer have access to the online resources. Defund the library.
I go here all the time and always love it!! The staff is very nice and willing to help anyone who needs it. They also have a wide book selection and I think it's great!
I needed help with picking up a book that I had placed a hold on. One of the staffers helped me by searching all available options, I truly appreciated the sincerity!

I've been going here for over ten years. Staff has always been helpful and friendly. Easy for pickups and they sort out any issues that come up.
Its been my library since I was a kid. It has had some new improvements. Wonderful staff, great kid friendly events, and a kid safe environment.
Anyone who is living in or visiting Austin can get a library card and then use it to check out ebooks from overdrive. Great selection online.
It was a little less.crowded than it usually is for that time of the day. Nice , quiet peaceful place to get some work done on the Laptop.
Super awesome staff and a comfortable facility! It's also pretty easy to get to since it's near a couple of major bus routes.
Great place to study at, it really quiet and the staff is always friendly to lend a hand at offering up good books to reads
Cozy local branch. Decent selection, helpful staff. Lots of desks and spots to read and study. Very clean place, too.
don't go here! large homeless population, was acting very disturbing towards me to the point where I had to leave.
They were closed but there are large signs mandating masks. Didn't the governor say mask mandates are not legal?
Always warm and welcoming. Staff helpfully and happy. Bright atmosphere. Easy to get to any time of day.
