"Ruiz Branch , public library , incredible ! I met two of the most professional and wonderful young ladies working the counter on 08- 18-2023"
"I love this library branch"
"The staff here are awesome! The children's picture book section is extensive"
The ruiz library is one of my favorite spaces in Texas. Sure, there are prettier libraries in Austin (see Austin Central Library). Sure, some libraries love reminding people that they are sustainable and upcycle old Mississippi River barges (see Twin Oaks). There is no library that I know that is so welcoming to people, that has everyone who is there feel so welcome and - for my kid - no place that meets his aspirations for what he wants to read when they stroll through the stacks. The building itself opens up wonderfully into the outside, the public art is nice. But, in the end, the staff here finds ways to make sure people engage and find books they did not know they needed. That it is a jewel in one of the more undeserved zip codes is another homage to the wonders of the librarians in this building. Want something to read. Bike to Ruiz and walk the stacks.
First and only visit. No classes, no children’s activities, very small teen section crammed with mostly graphic novels. I asked my teen daughter to push the stroller with her little sister and staff said she had to be 17 to take care of a minor. Staff members were very rude in general and seemed to talk down to us and repeat things that we clearly understood. Over all it was the worst experience that I’ve had in a library anywhere. And we’re a homeschool family we’ve been to LOTS of libraries. It’s a bummer they’re usually such a good resource but this location just doesn’t have much to offer.
Ruiz Branch , public library , incredible ! I met two of the most professional and wonderful young ladies working the counter on 08- 18-2023. I hope I'm spelling their names correctly . Adriana & Angelica. I went there looking for a fax machine . To my surprise , there is another way to send your documents similar to fax , That's much better . Adriana , educated me on this new method . After all , I have not been near an office for approximately 12 years, so, technology has passed me by . I highly recommend this library . Additionally , it's very clean and quite .
I love this library branch. The employees here are really friendly and will aid you in any endeavor this library is capable of doing. Plus there are events for children to enrich there lives from reading books to adventures that excite the children. Our city libraries offer such a variety of opportunities for people of all ages. Since I am an avid reader these employees have assisted me in finding and getting to read all books i want to read or find to read. Thank you Ruiz Library for being a respite of value instead of a plain ole library.
The staff here are awesome! The children's picture book section is extensive. Lots of Spanish children's books, too. If this library does not have the book you're looking for you can reserve it on the Austin Public Library website and it will be delivered to this library waiting for you on your next visit. This is a hugely convenient service! The afterschool programming for children is wonderful. I have also brought my son here for puppet shows in the past. I really cannot say enough good things about this library.
A Hidden Gem in SE Austin! Spacious areas to read, study or relax, kids scavenger hunt sheet w mini prize when returned at the front desk, printing is 20¢ a sheet, friendly & helpful staff, fun weekly arts/crafts, love the family movies w snacks & refreshments, teen computer room, kids storytime, monthly themed events, veggie, & flower seeds available, I recycle magazines & batteries here. Near bus lines 350, 311, 310, 217 & 20
It's a fun little library, with friendly service. It has most of the major hits, and I enjoyed my experiences nearly 100% of the time. The only negative experience I had was when I initially started going the lady at the desk messed up all of my information during registration. All I'd suggest is that you review your information on your library account before you leave.
Gracias...
I moved here 3yrs ago from Elroy and its the Best library I've been too in Austin. The staff is Great at helping out and a Big Shout out to Nancy and her staff for keeping the place impeccably clean and Covid-19 free. I Love all the computers and equipment that they have will to go there continue to visit.
Ruiz Library is a quiet space, small but good for when you need to get out of the home and do studying/job (search) or what have you. Libraries are a great resource in general. When it comes to not being able to afford subscription service for movies or buy the latest book the libraries got you covered.
There are ALWAYS small children screaming, while their parents make no attempt to quiet them down. I can't hear myself think. Its not the libraries fault, but my advice is never go here. Other libraries are not as loud, its worth it to just go 20 minutes out of your way, to get to a different library.
The Austin Public Library system has always had free open internet wifi in all it's libraries. The Ruiz Branch does not provide free internet wifi access anymore. Unless you are inside the library on a computer. You used to be able to use their free wifi internet from outside even if they were closed.
Very nice. They had a great selection of books. Especially for summer reading. And I was happy to see the gardening hobby shared with the little ones, and the seed exchange/check out was such a clever idea. Personally I purchased 3 books from the sales rack. And I couldn't have been more pleased.
Probably the best out of the big libraries in town. Community focused, large varied collection, helpful staff, a lot of public computers, & excellent device accessibility. It can get a bit loud (consider bringing earbuds just in case) but overall this library is one of the best in Austin.
This is a nice, new, and no doubt exaggeratedly overpriced city facility where you can sign up for audio books and digital downloads. They also have ACTUAL books--you know the paper ones?--as well as DVDs, magazines, and voting booths every once in a while. Great neighborhood resource.
Small and cozy place with a room in the back you can use for charging your electronics and to get more privacy since there's less people there. Don't go there while tired or sleepy because the security walks by every 15 minute to scare you if you doze off.
im really liking these reviews..i grew up down the street way back in the 90's it was really hood and i moved to rutland when i was 21 the library at lamar is not good at all as well:/.. im glad they are really keepin up with this one
Awesome! Great place to get work done in quiet. Even better its close to where we live, there's a bike lane on the street it's on, and it's the one place you can go in public without being expected to spend money. Love it!
First library i stopped at when I moved here I always liked it! They have kiddie area it’s clean most of the times I’ve gone, they ha e activities for kids all the time. If you need a brake from screens hit up a library
i didnt like. because i try to ask. a question to the lady and she just ignore .After someone else came and they help them real quick . I believe the one near north lamar has more friendly staff than this library .
Came for a visit Austin and was looking for a place to make copies ASAP. Came here and the front desk Isabel was supper helpful. She was happy to help and made sure we got everything we needed! Thank you Isabel !!!
Really helpful library staff! I'm new to town and they were very courteous and helpful when I inquired about a library card. They helped me get a card and learn more about the Austin Public Library system.
Both times I voted at this location it was a fast move. Today I took some friends to vote at 8:30am NO ONE IN LINE....NO LINE. good for you voting, BAD for US not enough people voting. Let's do our part!
The only turn off is all the people that hang out up front at the bus stop. The 350 goes to the del valle jail so needless to say lots of shady looking characters. Other than that, awesome library!
Still requiring masks even if vaccinated. Sitting alone in a large room, only two people in the whole library, was asked to keep my mask on at all times. When will we wake up from this nightmare?
Nice large location. Love their children section. They have a computers for adults and kids. Staff is helpful and friendly. They also hold many events from reading to kids to kids conferences.
Helpful staff and volunteers and I certainly can't hold the (small) size against them. Ample parking. About an hour wait for voting times due to the limited number of voting machines.
I love this library. Its big and has lots of areas to study quietly. Its clean and smells fresh and pleasant. A great alternative to when the ACC library is too crowded down the road.
Excellent people I have known for years work there. You can do your resume, plus they have different forms now legal forms divorce affidavits etc. You have to ask.nk
This is my favorite library. Staff is so nice and helpful, the facility is very clean, plenty of parking, convenient location, and an excellent selection of books.
Great library, nice seating, programs and availability of resources. The building is designed well inside and out. It also borders a golf course and hiking trail.
Good library though it no longer has any craft classes. Since covid, we desperately need these classes for our mental health. Still no classes...
I much prefer this branch location to Faulk Central. Ruiz seems cleaner and the employees are very nice and helpful. Not much more I can say!
Un buen lugar para reforzar el aprendizaje. Todo el equipo de representantes muy profesional, me atendieron cinco Estrellas, Gracias!!
the staff here are so wonderful. I'm so lucky to have APL in my life. Been going for a decade. What a great service to our community.
Excellent services, plenty of parking and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. A great example at what a local library should be.
Needed to print an email and this was the closest library to my location. Friendly staff that made my visit fast and efficient.
Closed before 6pm when they were supposed to be open until 8pm. I will update my review when I am able to get in the building.
Very clean library the staff is so helpful the only downside is the amount of young kids that take up all the computers
I have gone for voting only. Normally quick in and out. Simple instructions. Parking hasn't been an issue.
This is a good, quiet place to look for or read a book. The staff is friendly and very helpful.
