If you are a business owner or thinking of purchasing through this company for your business, DON'T! Twice now we have attempted to work with Northern Tool to purchase items we need locally instead of an online retailer. Both times they have messed things up and never bothered to correct the mistake or work with us on it. The first time we tried to purchase water pumps for our equipment over the phone, they said it needed to be shipped in and will take about a week. Two weeks later we call back after not hearing a single thing from them and we were told they were never ordered because they needed us to come to the store in person with a credit card before ordering, it took another week after that before they came in but again no call when they did. The second time I attempted to order Shutter Exhaust Fans. I was having issues with their web page accepting my credit card so I called customer service. Instead of using my current account, for what ever reason the sales rep (who seemed to only be half listening to me) created a whole new account to order for! They told me it was ordered and we should receive it in a week. A week and a half later nothing, I call to find out the card never went through (why did he tell me it did?!) and because he created a new account he entered my email incorrectly. They attempted one email to tell me of the issue and never called. Both of these times they made a promise and broke it without a single attempt to make things right, not even a "Sorry for the inconvenience." If you have work that needs to be done by a deadline I advise you completely avoid this company as they do not care to help your business succeed and keep your promises.

Northern Tool Ripping off Flood Victims. I am not a flood victim but I just figured out how Northern tool ripped off the public and took advantage of the disaster. Around the same time the floods were happening in Houston I bought two small water pumps and two hoses unrelated to anything related to the disaster. I was told that they are not excepting anything back that could remotely have been needed for the disaster even though it was 100% unused, unopened, factory sealed with a receipt they would not except the returned at the store in Austin Texas. I was told that I should've seen the postings and read the fine print on a receipt that measures 18 inches in length, yeah right! I can only imagine how true victims may feel knowing as they are putting their lives back together can’t return truly unused items. This is the most underhanded way of doing business, taking advantage of a situation for people that would've been working to put back together. Hey Northern Tool, why don't you do this around Christmas time when people over purchase for Christmas and would like to return things, that way you can pocket more profit and steal from the most vulnerable in society at a given time. I will never buy one more penny of items from this company and you should not if you have another choice. Give your money to companies that don't use underhanded tricks to steal profit. I will post this on every social and Internet page that allows feedback!!!

Never ever use their online store. Always use Amazon! Worst experience I've ever had. Bought a product that was drop shipped from another vendor. That vendor sent the wrong item. I called Northern Tool the day I received the wrong item. They told me the vendor would contact me for return. I discussed at that time we needed the correct item in three days, so they suggest purchase another one. Then the original would be credited. Now sitting 10 days out from original order, I've still not been contacted about the original order return. I ended up cancelling the second order which still has not been credited now 3 days later. I'm out $660 right now with no resolution. I ended up ordering the item from Amazon and I received in 1 day. The kicker is Amazon was actually $50 dollars cheaper. The customer service is awful. They told me I would get a call today for resolution. If I don't get that, I'll post my reviews on every social media site available to warn everyone in my network.

This “manager” claimed it was her choice entirely if she wanted to allow us to return items to the store. She said under her breathe to another employee, “If we can’t get full price out of it then we should tell them we can’t accept it” For an un-used item. What kind of scam is this place? Are people supposed to know exactly what they’re doing all the time and never purchase the wrong tool or equipment? I recommend this “manager” go through some training on how to be a human being and talk to other adults. You’re paying this persons bills and paying for every single thing they have in life and they can’t pay your customers an ounce of respect?

Terrible experience with them. Placed my order and received a confirmation from them. In the email it says my order will be ready in between 4/9-4/29. Since I have not heard from them for 11 days. I was wondering what the status of my order is so I emailed them. A day later they responded saying that the order was canceled due to billing issues and they said I should check with my CC company. Seriously? Why can’t you just admit that you oversold? If the order was really canceled due to billing issues, it would take you this long to find out? Where was the order cancelation notice? We are currently in a global pandemic, gloves are essential items! You left your customers hanging for 11 days thinking that I’ll be getting my order when it was actually canceled by you without notice? Great business practice! Northern tools is officially blacklisted from my future shoppings. Simply awful!!!

Absolutely by far the WORST experience I have ever Had the displeasure of putting up with. 18 months or so I purchased $3800 top of the line Honda/Northstar pressure washer from this company. Lasted less than three months and a diaphragm went out rendering it useless. Upon taking it in to service, The factory warranty nor the extended warranty picked up one red cent of the $250 repair bill. This continued on for another year and a half until today when Austin Texas location basically said they didn’t want to work on it anymore. Nothing like leaving you high and dry with a useless $4000 pressure washer with an additional extended warranty. I won’t spend one dime at Northern tool nationwide! Biggest rip off I have experienced in my 55 years on this planet. I have written to regional manager, no response. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Spent about 10k for a trailer power washer unit in the middle of 2020. Spent about 1k to extend the warranty which is great if they can actually service it. We have had it for 6 months and this is the second time it has gone down and it will take 30 days for them to even look at it. It is frustrating because they are taking other peoples equipment, according to the assistant manager, so they are backed up. They have time to service everyone else's equipment, but not mine. I understand the servicing is free because i spent that money, but it is not being done in a timely manner. Now i have to pay someone else to service it, because 30 days of lost income is not an option and i have to service my customers. Will not be buying any equipment from this company again. I couldn't stay in business if i offered this kind of service.

I'll give this place a 4 star, even though my car got broken into in their parking lot, but that was because I was at a bike night for woods. So not related, but still related. The employees here are super nice, I've never actually bought anything from the shopping in the store. I typically do my purchases, from online and getting it delivered to the store for pick up. The guys her always offer help carrying the larger things out to my car. But be careful on what you purchase from Northern Tool, definitely do your research, sometimes they have great quality items for a great price, but then there is the opposite, where they sell the exact same item as Harbor Freight and it's 3 times as much. They also have coupons at times too, so make sure to look out for those, prior to making large purchases.

Be aware that their repair department will take months to get your small engine repair in and complete. I initially called and was told they're 2 to 3 weeks out until they could take it in. I kept calling every two weeks and they said the same thing. I even asked multiple times to put my name down and call when ready. 3 months down the line I asked to speak to a manager and they said they made an "exception" for me to get it in. After they got it took a month or so to get it returned. My recommendation is they're fine if you don't mind the wait once they get the item in but don't believe them if they say they can't take it for a few weeks. Get the repair elsewhere! I would've drove the 45 minutes to the other champion warranty repair shop if I knew! Not worth the waste of time.

Placed an online order for store pickup - BIG MISTAKE. Confirmation email came right away stating that the product is ready to be picked up in two hours. After 2 days I call the store, and they say the order is not in their "system" (you know, the 20 year old software that uses arrows to navigate instead of a mouse). So I tell them the whole story from A-Z how I ordered this product on their website, paid for it, and got a confirmation email. Their response was: "we usually don't take email orders so that must be the problem." Incompetent employees with archaic, outdated system. Order cancellation only via phone call to a "customer service" that's almost never available. Not the first time they burnt me. In 2020 how this company is still in business is a mystery.

Placed a ship to store order on July 19. Called Friday, July 26 and they said it was on the truck at the store and I could pick it up in the evening. Made the trip and they didn't have it. A "manager" said I should be able to pick it up after the weekend. Called Wednesday, July 31 in the morning, and an employee said they found my order in the back. I asked them to tag it so when I showed up whatever employee was working would know my order was there. They acknowledged. Showed up today (Friday, August 2), and they state they still don't have it. Transit to the store and back is an hour round trip. I may order from the site in the future, but I'll definitely think twice before initiating any future business that involves the Austin brick-and-mortar store.

Regarding Austin Texas location, not lumped up into all locations! Carlos made a bad decision to NOT exchange a faulty machine that was purchased last night prior to close. He spoke with his manager, and they stated that the machine has to be looked at by their service technicians prior to any exchange will take place. This is detrimental to any business that purchases a product that is needed for immediate use. I have spent over $30k over the last few years with this company, and that ends today. They will never get another penny from me. Horrible business, horrible people to work with, horrible experience.... DO NOT BUY ANYTHING GAS POWERED IF YOU THINK THESE UNPROFESSIONAL people will work with you if it fails.... won’t happen! You’ve been warned!

Although I'm glad that the item that I was looking for was in stock, I was trying to avoid going into the store. I tried to order the item online for store curbside pickup. There was an error during purchasing and I was instructed to call the store. I called the store only to find someone that was not interested in helping me. Online page showed two in stock but the person that answered the phone stated that if I got an error during purchasing, it meant they were out of stock. I asked if they could just double check since website was showing two in stock. Was put on hold for 30 minutes with no follow up. I hung up and drove to the store and purchased the item. Wish I would not have had to go into the store.

This store has horrible product knowledge and customer service. They refused to return a space heater I bought with an extended warranty and proceeded to lecture me about how I bought the wrong device. I wish I could give them negative stars. I even reached out to the store I did the original purchase with and they said this store is going against corporate policy for returns. I asked for clarification about why they won’t do the return to understand if their sales numbers are bad and the sales guy just clicked his pen anxiously and nervously before saying he would call his manager and never returned to resolve the issue.

The store is very neat, clean and well arranged. I received some individual attention from employee Charles Duvic. I had in my cart a Kindling wood splitter and he approached me to ask if I was finding everything alright. Conversation led to wood burning stoves and I told him I had one and was considering an insert. He showed me pictures on his phone of the same Kindling splitter he bought. We walked to a nearby computer and he took the time to log in, pull up and explore a wood burning fireplace insert with me on the store website. This is great customer service that I will remember when it's time for that insert.

Checkout required “CHAT HELP” to complete the purchase. This was due to the “Promo Code” on a Coupon I’d received in the mail not working during checkout. ‘Gunnar” joined me in a “chat” and he created a different code for me which worked. Other than this distraction/annoyance…it was a good experience purchasing a Utility Sink for Garage/Laundry Room which does NOT appear in the ordinary catalog but was found via a Google Search. I’m an “Advantage” Customer and would have hoped for a more streamlined experience ….but the purchase was completed successfully via the “Chat” function. Kind regards….ghorn

The only thing I could not find was the makeup counter...no but for real this is in fact a boy store through and through, went in with the hubby and well now he is gonna have to endure an Ulta trip is all I'm saying. With that, the people are awesome, friendly and they know their store. The store is very clean and if I knew what I was even in there for I'm sure it would be easy to navigate. But, since I do not it was just alot metal, rubber, sharp edges, straps, big tools, little tools and I am glad I had the experience but not really my thing.

Today, I had an appointment scheduled with the Service Department at Northern Tools and both Chris and AJ took care of me. The Customer Service they provided was Great from beginning to end. I appreciate how they communicated the entire process and helped me understand what to do for the warranty work on my new generator. Chris managed to complete my repairs all in a matter of hours. I was able to pick up my repaired generator on the same day! I will be returning here in the future. Thank you again Chris and AJ.

Tried to place order online, which then directed me to the store. Person at store that answered the phone was not helpful and not very knowledgable, and he referred me to the 800#. Called 800#, lady was nice but was not able to help me with the order and delivery to my house. Charge me extra for having it shipped to my house and would not credit me the difference after an hour of a mess of a process. I sure hope their products are better than their processes and employee training.

A quick and successful repair of my portable Westinghouse generator by Northern Tools, Master Technician Chris Mank. Chris was an exceptionally professional and courteous technician. His knowledge and skill quickly returned the generator to full operating levels. After locating the problem, he provided clear explanations and gave guidance on avoiding future problems. It is not possible to overstate the respect that Northern Tools has earned from me thanks to his efforts.

I purchased a Ryobi 40 volt electric lawn mower at Lowe's. They are Ryobi's warranty and service center in Austin. One of my bolts came off the handle attached to the main body and they told me they don't carry the part. So, I was given another area nuts and bolt company's name which turned out be a total dud. It has left me with a bad impression of Ryobi and their local warranty center, in this instance, Northern Tool & Equipment Co. on East Braker Road in Austin.

The averige wate time I have experienced at the Austin Northern Tool store is about 2 hours minimum. Only one checkout person a and that person is the least experianced employee on sight. When Iwas brought the wrong product for my order it took 45 minutes to get the maniger who promptly disappeared never to be seen again. Staff can. E everywhere but help at the counter can only be gotten when people standing in line start leaving. Every time 3 times sofar.

In the store over thirty minutes trying to find an associate to help me. When someone does finally help I am told they don’t have what I’m looking for in stock. But wait your website says you have it in stock. Answer, “Our inventory is all jacked up”. That is probably because you only have two employees on the floor and one guy at the Service dept window who is on the phone trying to fix the printer! In trying to locate hard to find polisher/grinder accessory part...previously damaged ...received excellent customer service to include them ensuring that the selected part actually fit (non standard sizing). They were the third attempt ..and their service and exceptional pricing ...when combined with ensuring ,fit,...well couldn't recommend them more highly. Took my Pressure washer in for repairs and the Technician there asked me several questions to help diagnose my machine. He stated that it would help keep cost down and speed up the repair time, I felt at ease leaving my machine for repairs being how knowledgeable the Technician was. I ended up getting my machine repaired and back to me in the same day. I will definitely use this shop for all my repairs

Really happy with my experience today. Was initially assisted over the phone and then greeted warmly by Laura. She directed me to Oscar, who quickly resolved my questions and directed me to the correct product. Great tools but they do not accept credit cards without chips... Therefore I was forced to go pull cash out then return to purchase my items. On my last visit I was told the same but they were able to manually run my card which was great customer service and this time they refused... Inconcistency is terrible for customer service!

Phone number doesn't have an option for the outside pickup parking spot. Another customer was so frustrated that she walked inside to get her on-line order. I finally got customer service but before that I had to call an 800 number because I never received an email notification that my merchandise was ready to be picked up.

Well not the place to go if you need any kind of paint brush but they are kind of like Harbor F. but a little bit better quality and a smaller selection. It is usually more convenient than going down the road to another tool place. Their employees are always helpful. Their online catalog is bigger than you would imagine.

Drove to the store where I purchase a NORTHERN 3/4 deep chrome 1/2" drive socket long time ago and it cracked but was told they wouldn't warranty it because they don't have that brand no more (Their own name stamped on it) I guess Harbor Freight will get my bussiness now. talking with the person on chat line was very helpful the filling out of the address was dificult as i live on a private rd and have to put in both a street address and my po box# because if i dont the postal service gets confused as there is no postal delivery on this rd so the billing address has to be different

This rating could be higher. They want it from my initial use of the online purchase. It has been straight forward and easy. I have not picked up my stuff and so it is a limited experience. They go out of their way and all seem to care about doing a good job. Customer service seems pretty hard to come by anymore, but here they still get it. That's appreciated.

I use this site often before I travel into my local NT stores. Easy to find in-stock products in *all* stores near me, which seems unusually hard for other companies. Sometimes there's a delay (when paying online) for Cloudflare to verify that NorthernTool is a secure website. :-)

Hard to find a salesperson to help. Not everyone is helpful. And get rid of this ridiculous masking requirement. The store is huge and there is plenty of room to distance. Only hassle the outrageous violators, not the casual mask slippage.

Shipping charges are ridiculous! Most all businesses dismiss these charges once you spend at least $100 to $150 with them. But not Northern Tools. Guess this will be my last purchase with them.

Had to ask for a cart to load an engine hoist by myself. And I'm surprised they didn't tell me to bring the cart back in the store. The engine hoist weighs 190 pounds.
