My grandmother was admitted into the transitional care unit for this hospital. She does does not speak a word of english, just purely Italian. She finds it hard to communicate or express what she wants as she is illiterate and has never had an education. She has not had a good life suffering from PTSD which has led to schizophrenia and dementia. My mother has been the main communicator/interpreter when she has been at the hospital for the nurse and my grandmother. Unfortunately due to her medical condition my grandmother at times may not comphrend what is going on around her and due to such confusion she does feel at times she has to defend herself. However in the eyes of the nurses she is considered a 'difficult patient' and will avoid her at all costs. Only solving the matter by 'drugging her up'. She never had ANY problems at the brother hospital of St Vincent's in Fitzroy. Even if she needs to desperately go to the toilet and is distressed and crying in pain that she needs to go. (It doesn't help having only one toilet for six patient's.). The nurses most of the time don't go into the rooms to check in on patient's - see how they are going (unless they have to). Their consideration of supervising their patients is by monitoring them by sitting on a chair in the hallway. Every time I go there I myself feel like I'm in a prison and without fail find the floors to be sticky, which makes me wonder how often they actually mop the floors there. Words can not really express how disappointed me and my family are with this hospital. She has in actual fact deteriorated since being in that hospital (from initially being able to walk to not being able to really walk at all). We are searching desperately for another hospital to get her out of there. To be honest this hospital is actually lucky that it is even receiving one star. Countless times the actions of the staff members have received my mum and myself to tears. They just don't have any cultural understanding and the nurses need to learn that patronizing and being sarcastic towards patient's and their families does not achieve anything.
I wouldn't send my worst enemy here! I'm absolutely shocked at how St.Georges treat patients and discharge them when they can't look after themselves. It's completely negligent! The nurses would come around to my mums bed when she would press the bell to go to the toilet and they would say "you're independent now, you can walk to the toilet yourself". My mum could not walk herself to the toilet safely and she is a falls risk because she keeps collapsing and when she does that, she can't get up which was why she was in hospital in the first place and they were trying to force her to walk around on her own. She ended up collapsing when she was forced to walk to the toilet and the nurses then had to monitor her for 24 hours after that. We were lucky on this occasion that mum didn't break any bones due to falling over in the bathroom. The following night, she collapsed again when she went to the toilet, and then two days after the last collapse, they still discharged her when she couldn't safely walk around her apartment to get water or go to the toilet and she's now back in hospital care through a different hospital. It's the most disgraceful treatment of vulnerable people and this place should be shut down if they don't start treating their patients properly!!! I strongly recommend sending your loved ones anywhere else but here. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE AN ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT.
My grandma was unfortunate enough to break her arm just before Christmas last year. After 4 weeks in hospital because she couldn't move by herself she was asked to move to St George's. Appalling service! They didn't help her to the bathroom meaning she just went on her bed and sat it in for days before they would change the sheets. After being in there for another 4 weeks in there and a request each day for a shower they did not give her one! Many lies about "being too busy" but when my mum and I would visit they would just be on their phones around the front desk gossiping about what they did on the weekend. This is not a hospital at all! No help trying to help her recover strength in her arm nor getting her up and walking around like the Epworth Hospital. My grandma is a hilarious and crazy woman who doesn't shut up, this hospital make her miserable, no more classic Greek jokes and so quiet. After 4 weeks we couldn't stand her lying there withering away anymore so we took her to our own home to take care of her... after a week of my family helping her (shower every day, help to the bathroom and proper food!) she went back to her old self in a weeks time! A ridiculous amount of money wasted on this place for absolutely no help!
In early November 2017 I was unfortunate enough to have had a stroke. Following a number of weeks in St Vincent’s I was transferred to St George’s hospital for rehabilitation. I was terrified but determined to get well again. The staff (Admin, Support, Nursing and the Doctors) were amazing. They helped me become comfortable and got me on my way to recovery. Everyday for months they cared, provided for my needs and worked hard to assist my recovery. Every single one of the Staff members overflowed with knowledge and kindness, and lead me to a point whereby I could speak, think and walk again sufficiently to cope on my own. They arranged for ongoing programs I could benefit from following my departure from hospital even though I was heading interstate to be with family. I owe these people a great deal of gratitude and can’t speak highly enough of their skill and commitment. Thank you so very much. You are all genuine and caring people and deserve the very best in life for the great job you do. My very sincere thank you and best wishes. Les.
To all the staff at St George’s Hospital & TCP Our father grandfather & husband was a patient for many weeks at the hospital & TCP. Our family would love to thank you all for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our father and our family. The amazing care, kindness and compassion you showed to him was exemplary and you always made us feel more than welcome when we would visit. The service provided by all the staff was exceptional in particular Nurse Noriko (the most tender soul), Dr Chen, Dr Ong and Nurse in Charge Jill. We were kept in the loop throughout his entire stay. We were constantly kept informed and up to date with his progress. We are most grateful to all you Thank you
Last month my grandpa was fortunate enough to have a heart attack, My family and I were all so happy. But he soon recovered, and we all were overcome in depression and disappointment. We thought this was a good hospital. We were disgraced and appalled. But…We were so found out that we were wrong! As the doctor who was treating him at the time had given him the wrong dosage of something and he soon passed away! This hospital staff and care was amazing! They did exactly what we wanted! I Highly recommend to anyone. Great experience
I personaly found this place first floor to be the best treatment one could possibly get anywhere in the world . First class treatment first class staff from the junior student nurse right through to the senior consultant my main attending doctor was very friendly and interested in my welfare .The food I was served was of very high standard and the ladies that delivered the meals were cheery. Ifound they couldnt do enough to make my stay comfortable ten stars to all
My father spent time in 2018 inthe rear building behind the main hospital at St. George’s in Kew. Vic. He was repeatedly assaulted by staff . I was appalled by this treatment ,beware don’t send your parents here .You will regret it . he had multiple bruises on his arms. Someone who worked hard all his life deserves better .clean up your act St. George’s hospital! Disgusting behaviour!
My Mother stayed at the Ellerslie unit for 12 weeks. Many of the Nursing staff and certain senior staff members lacked Compassion for Family members and Certain mature staff where extremly rude to me. Unfrotunately not a very good experience. They truly need to higher better staff and not just anyone.
Best hospital in the country, top tier service. St George's found my aunt's reboot card after she died in the storm and respawned her. They even managed to pick up all her legendary loot and give it back to her.
