TL;DR - Sterling Electronics is a scam, don't give them your business. So a few days ago I took my 42" tv to Sterling TV Repair/Sterling Electronics on 156 street based on the recommendation of my girlfriends co-worker. The basic problem was that while it was getting power, there was no sound and the screen was black. After much online research it seemed likely it was a blown capacitor and should have been a minor repair. I also brought in a 32" tv that had some lines on it hoping to trade it for whatever value I could get against repair fees. First thing that should have given me pause was how cluttered and dirty the place was. Could barely find anywhere to place the two tv's. But I thought "oh well" and explained the issue. He immediately dismissed the capacitor issue and claimed that "everyone thinks it's the capacitors"...but hey, he knows tv's better than I do, right? Next he tells me the little tv is only worth $10. Ok, fine. Then he tells me he needs a $50 deposit that he says will be waived when I get repairs done. Um, no...I am leaving my property with you, if you give me a reasonable estimate then I will have you repair my stuff. I talk him down and he agrees to just take the "$10 tv" as my deposit. Very quickly too which just makes him asking for a deposit in the first place all the more fishy. So two days later he calls me with an estimate. It's $400. To repair a 3 year old tv bought for about $270. Again, FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. all to replace what is likely a 50 dollar (or less) part and an hour or so of labour. Naturally I told him where to go, and now he (or course) is keeping my tv's to repair and sell at what I am sure is more than it's worth, but certainly under $400. This place is a scam. Quote ridiculous repair fees, and either keep your $50 deposit or sell your tv you won't get back. It's a win/win for him, don't give him your business. End of.

I had Segotep PSU power supply bought it 3yrs ago and never used it, kept in store for long times. I bought a mining devices and try to plugin to power supply it doesn't work. I tried to contact the seller but the warranty was expired. So I took my Segotep PSU power supply to different computer stories such Uniway computers, but they say " we can't fix it" they are very honest about it.Then I took it Sterling Electronics, explained him the problem, and he charged $50 CAD me just to check the problem, I agreed and paid the amount he asked me even if it's expensive. I contacted him after 2weeks, not fixed yet. Then I gave him time for a month, and went back, he said " it has three layers, I couldn't open the 2 bottom layers, so I couldn't fix it. Then he returned the PSU power supply device to me.First of all,he wasn't honest like other do, if he don't know how to fix something he supposed to say" I can't fix it". I was loosing a lot of money for something he can't fix it, but for him benefit from it in the name of checking the device charge me non refundable money, but he knew that he can't fix it.For me this seller is not honest with his customers just looking a way to charge you for money.I am not really happy about it,I don't recommend to fix something here, unless may be want just want buy an item. Don't just give away your money, find some where they can check the device for you for free and charge you later for just fixing the item.Thank you!

I was only receiving half screen picture, all-right I ordered the upper and lower buffer boards. After replacing still same results, then I decided to order the "Y" board from "Electrorepairshop.com" after replacing I got no picture and a loud "buzzing" sound from their "Y" board. after emailing and calling, a week later I had to call again. Only for whoever answered to question if I was a technician and to tell me there is a short in the buffer board. But I get half picture with my original board with old and new buffer boards. But I get zero with the one purchased from here.... BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PURCHASE!!!! SEEMS TO BE A " IF YOU TOUCH IT YOU BOUGHT IT". I HOPE TO SAVE SOMEONE FROM GOING THROUGH THIS HASSLE!!!!!! THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE.

only place that would sell me the part that I needed for my T.V called a few other places they either didn't sell these particular parts or wouldn't sell them and only want to inspect and service it! sterling electric is the best electronic repair shop in Edmonton! havING a servicemen to inspect your TV would cost over 50 $, which must be paid even if tv cannot be fixed! after that repair costs are astronomical. that's why sterling electric is a great store. I knew what needed to be done, bought the part and repaired myself saving 100's of dollars . I highly recommend anyone needing repair's for things they can service or parts you need , do so! . tho, the owner seems like he needs a long over due vacation! keep up the good work!

Paid 50 to get tv inspected for the problem. Was phoned back with a quote of how much to fix which is almost how much a new tv would have cost. Told him that I would not be interested in fixing for that price his voice turned angry and said that I had already paid some so I might as well pay the rest to fix it. When told that I would pick it up later in the week he said fine and hung up. He was not interested in telling me what the issue was as I am sure it was a cheap fix and probably could be fixed on my own. Would not be interested in coming here again. Very dated interior. Very cramped very old. Everything you can buy had dust on it if you could get to it.

Very friendly and knowledgeable owner. Old school. Wonderful shop; very crowded with barely room to turn around but it has a terrific inventory in a small space. Even when he is busy he will make time for customers. Life saver for finding parts that would otherwise require internet searching and paying costly shipping. Regarding the fella with kids who was told they couldn't come in. I wouldn't let them in either. This is a crowded industrial outlet and it is no place for kids. Owner did the right thing. Very poor judgement to bring your children in, especially in pandemic times.

  • Ben Cochran

The only electronics parts shop left in Edmonton. Before you visit Amazon, give them a call to see if they have what you need. Not even the big hobby shops in town carry any more than a basic supply of soldering equipment's but he's got everything, albeit it's a bit of organized chaos in there. Very impressed and will continue to support him so long as he's open. Hoping someone can help him out and keep his business running once he's retired, as once this place is gone that's pretty much it for local shops that carry more than a basic supply of consumer-grade stuff.

This is an amazing place for electronic parts. Sure it's a bit messy, but you never know what you might find hidden away with all of the neat stuff. Since Radio Shack and Active Electronics are long gone, this is the only place where you can find those old style parts for repairing your equipment. Anu is very helpful and friendly, and this store has plenty of character like stores used to have before the cookie-cutter starbucks type establishments took over everywhere.

  • George Pon

took it in for power supply repair. $60 to look at. I don't think he looked at it. if he did he would have found that the switch was the problem. I took it home and found the switch problem after taking it apart and putting the switch in correctly. How I found the problem was taking it apart and putting the battery in it to find out why it was not coming on. I fell really ripped off. First and last time trying this place.

  • Peter H

Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. The owner Anu provided advice and parts to fix a control board on my KitchenAid refrigerator. The board is no longer readily available so this saved me a lot of time and money. It is rare to find this level of experience and service these days. I also feel good about repairing something instead of replacing it, so much better for the environment. I recommend this business.

Went to this store looking for a belt for my turntable. I brought the platter and handed it to the owner. He looks at it for 1 second and grabs a belt off the shelf. It fits and my turntable works awesome. Owner was funny and very knowledgable. Place has an old school messy feel but i like that. Will for sure be back.

  • EMCEE STYLES

Same as the actual legitimate statements on here. Brought the t.v in 50 dollar deposit. I already knew the problem led needs to be replaced. You can get the led straps for 60.00 . So I figured about 200 for repair would be fair. Calls me 400. Man the TV new was 400 . You can't get into the guys shop it's so packed.

  • Solo Yo

Great shop that is local. Tried a few other places looking for a simple replacement belt drive for an 8track machine. Other shops were not interested in helping. This shop had the part and went above and passed one a bunch of tips without a charge. Will be going back and recommend it to all.

  • Chris Davis

This store is the best. Quality parts. Fair prices. The owner is very knowledgeable and willing to help if you're willing to be polite, kind, and patient. Don't be cheap, rude and entitled. Go see him. He will likely have what you need and make you laugh too.

  • Robin Abel

It's unfortunate others have had trouble here...both times I've gone to Sterling for parts I needed urgently, they were on-hand (a touch pricy but available immediately!). The owner was friendly and accommodating both times, and I'd be happy to go back again.

  • Joseph

Had a great experience today with the owner. He took the time to fix my turntable, helped me understand how to use it, and explained everything. He was very knowledgeable about his products and provided great customer service. Has humour as well! Thank you.

  • Thor L

Massive parts inventory! If you can't find it there then you probably won't find it anywhere else. Audio repair shops go to him for parts as well. It will be a dark day if the owner decides to close up shop! Reasonably priced as well.

  • pXn Emerica

Great guy sharing his knowledge with others. He's getting older so hours may vary, best to call first. Place is a cluttered, but he's always helped me out with parts when in need, last time he was training some students on repair.

  • Jake Schiewe

Not many places left in Edmonton to go to and source some components, the shop has plenty of stock so you should be able to find what you're after. The gentleman behind the counter will definitely be able to help you.

  • derrick carnie

brought my samsung curved tv here today was greeted at the door by the owner and he helped me carry the tv inside. 50$ for a diagnosis ( cheapest place i have found) very friendly service

  • Kp Smith

Fixed my 40 year old turntable faster than he said he would for a very reasonable price. He was able to network to get a part I needed in 5 days rather than 6 weeks. Plus he's friendly.

  • Dave Hennig

Saved me more than $100 that the car dealer would have charged me for a new power window switch. He fixed it while I waited. Glad I came here again.
