Pretty disorganized overall. All of the staff were quite nice and pleasant to deal with the exception of a couple of staff members.... Nurses definitely are not as responsive as you'd hope when pressing the nurse call button (possibly understaffed?) .... In one particular instance I had to call reception via my mobile when it took over 20 minutes for a nurse to respond to the call button.... Considering the costs involved and the fact it's meant to be better than a public hospital I was extremely disappointed on many accounts. On the first day that I arrived I filled out my meal requests and as the meals came out, when they remembered I was still here that is it was a 50/50 chance everytime if I'd get what I ordered. So basically when I did receive a meal the same time as every other patient I sometimes got what I requested and the other times I had to ask where my meal was and then when it arrived it was clearly whatever they could quickly prepare for me... All the staff members were keen to drug me up on medications irrespective of them working on me or not and weren't concerned about feeding me prior to me taking them. When I spoke up and refused to take medication until I had something to eat first they did something about it and got me some sandwiches. Regarding the stronger pain killers I had the same issue where I told them I refuse to take them as they weren't helping and requested that they try something else, to which they did and then made an actual difference. I beleive a doctor should be in charge of the nurses because they seemed to just follow whatever the doctor or anesthetist had written down which is fine if that medication had of worked but clearly everyone is different and should be looked at on a case by case basis. During my stay there were also many occasions where I had to wait to get my drip due to not enough machines at the hospital to cater for the number of patients that were there as well as other machinery that was required post op. The extraction fans in the bathrooms do not work at all and look like they've not been cleaned in a very long time either as there's copious amounts of dust clogged up on the grills which is especially important in a shared room situation also. Prior to checking in, I'd requested a private room and that didn't happen as I was in a shared room (there were many unoccupied rooms as I was told by several people that visited me throughout my stay here). The other patient sharing the room with me also felt much the same way about his treatment whilst staying at the avenue private hospital.
I'm writing this for my mother, who came here for 5 nights for a total hip replacement last week. First off she was very nervous, as expected. She needed a Rapid Antigen Test prior which we couldn't get anywhere but luckily we were informed by the reception staff that they can supply one for her, which they did and was accommodated by a very nice nurse which performed if for her. We were clearly there on a busy morning as the waiting area was full but luckily we didn't have to wait too long so my mothers nerves didn't get to her. I wasn't aware of their current covid rules and didn't know I wouldn't be able to help my mother upto her room, which made her uneasy. The man doing her admission called upto the nurses to see if they could help her bags upstairs as she couldn't carry them herself. The nurses were apparently busy which almost made me argue that I would take them up but instead he offered and helped her upstairs himself which was very kind. As my mother went up I had a chat to the young lady at reception about the procedures of the hospital, which she was very courteous and helpful about, giving me numbers for her area of the hospital. My mothers time on the hospital ward by her account was amazing. She has had many visits to hospitals over the last decade but this one was her most daunting but also her most pleasant. She said the nurses were always there to help her and everything went off without a hitch. They not only calmed her nerves but also helped her with her electronics so she could contact me and the family. She was given a nice private room with amenities and a great view. She had no problem with the food and was accommodated for her allergies. Her doctor was very professional and personable and even gave me a call himself afterwards to let me know that everything went great and she would have an easy recovery. Unfortunately I can't remember his name but I will thank him separately on my mothers behalf. My mother has told me she will write her own letter to the hospital when she has regained her strength, but from me on her behalf I would like to thank everyone that assisted her; from the reception staff - operating - and ward. Thank you.
I recently spent a few days at The Avenue and I think 3 stars is a fair review. It was self funded surgery and the hospital component cost me just under $11,000 for a 2 night stay. The room probably needed a repaint 2 years ago, but to be fair covid may be delaying things like this. However I expect cleanliness in a private hospital to be exemplary and it wasn't. Care levels varied, day staff were always good, night not so good. Weekend, ok, but clearly not in the loop of what goes on. I was discharged with no clear after care instructions and still bleeding. 14 days later I am still bleeding and have an infected wound. I have had to have the wound redressed every single day since discharge including the same day of discharge, multiple times per day in the first week, by my GP and on days he couldn't see me by nurses at my home. The lack of information given on discharge, to me, is not right. Getting discharged was an ordeal on it's own. My husband picked me up, we live over an hours drive away and discharge is 9 - 9.30am. When he arrived just after 9 I told him that I was told we have to wait for Pharmacy to bring my medication up. 2 hours later and we were still sitting there, despite asking a couple of times about it as the place most certainly was not busy. At about 11, the nurse, likely sensing some annoyance by us, gave me some discharge papers and told me to go to the Pharmacy ourselves on the way out. The medication was there, packaged with my name on it so I presume Pharmacy had no intention at all of taking it to my room. I was then charged for the medication, despite saying I had a PBS safety net card and there is no charge on that PBS medicine (confirmed when I got the same medicine on script from my GP, cost 0.00). Despite my husband paying for 2 hours parking when picking me up, the over 2 hour wait for something we did ourselves put us over the 2 hour limit. If I receive a fine, I know where I will be sending it. I don't enjoy leaving reviews with negativity, however I expected better care than what I received. I work in the Health Sector, so do have care knowledge.
I was ready to provide a 5 star review and everything exceptional with my recent 1 night stay. The check in was done in 5 mins, i got in my room in less than 10 mins, and everyone else after that was super awesome. I was having trouble remembering all their names, from the ward nurses, the theater doctors and technicians and everyone else cos they all went the extra mile to help me especially my night nurse who had to deal with me every 1 hour crying in pain or when I needed the bed pan. Morning came, and my breakfast was dropped off and I asked politely if there was ham anywhere in the breakfast? Mind you cos I was given the exact same sandwich post surgery night before. Now, I wasn’t trying to be a pain, I just dont eat it because of my religious practice. The lady told me ‘ I don’t know my dear, if you didn’t say anything then they wouldn’t know.’ I then tried explaining that I wasn’t provided a menu to even make a choice. Her response next threw me off, she said ‘well, if you check in you normally wouldn’t get the option to pick as well’. Really now? By this time, I was ready to flip. I had no sleep, took 7 pain killers in the span of 12 hours, had to pee in a pan, and was crying all night long. I now have this lady who has not only manage to make me feel guilty of my own religious belief and choice, but also indicated to me that with the amount of money I have and will be paying to this hospital for its service, I would not be able to request for a desired meal. Insurance money is my money by the way. I pay for the service. I could have started an argument, but at that moment I was just too tired. I decided to check the meal myself, get it swaped via my nurse if I needed too, and I also had the next neighbour’s mum helping with coffee, milk and sugar. This is why Im giving a 3 star instead of 5. Such a shame, everyone was really kind, I even had Zac wheel me in and help me in my car. By the way, the pregnant lady delivering the food was lovely, she even gave me an extra cake, my biff is with the other.
Just a warning for anyone who has been referred to the Day Surgery Unit as a public patient. You'll be told to come in at 1:30pm but will be made to wait 5+ hours to go in as you'll be allocated last on the surgery list for the day. If you're someone who is young fit and generally healthy, this will merely be a frustrating and inconveniencing experience. Unfortunately for my elderly non-English-speaking relative (who is diabetic amongst other multiple comorbidities) being told there was at least a 4 hour wait as they were allocated last on the surgery list was not only frustrating and inconvenient. Our experience with the Day Surgery Unit can only be described as negligent. It's common sense and usually protocol for diabetic patients to be prioritised for surgery whether they are privately paying patients or not. This was the first instance where it was clear to us that their public status and the hospital's monetary greed was compromising patient safety. On arrival my relative's systolic blood pressure was >200mmHg. According to hospital guidelines this should initiate a MET call review. No form of escalation occurred. Not once in the 5 hours of waiting was the patient properly followed up/reviewed by anybody even when I finally found a nurse 3 hours later (they were so short staffed) and raised my concerns regarding potential complications the patient could face under sedation. The patient's complaints of a tight chest, shortness of breath, weakness/dizziness and black spots in their vision were ignored. Fast forward to discharge (9pm) we asked what the patient's blood pressure was. The nurse stated she "couldn't find the folder" and even refused to take one on the spot despite the machine being at arm's reach. This is just a brief review. I have never been so appalled and will be submitting a formal complaint in detail.
Extremely unhappy with their administration side. My wife has been there several times and each time we had surprise invoices pop-up afterwards. Based on those experiences, when she was there last time for a day procedure, we made care to ask twice that they are this time sure that they have charged us for everything they should. We had all the papers and receipts signed by them BUT still they sent again an invoice that was in fact more than they charged on the day (almost $800 extra). Once I called them, they promised to look into it and to speak to their manager and call me back. I never heard anything back and called a week later. They just said that it was an quotation error at their end and that it's now the correct rate. They refused to accept any responsibility for their error and it was our part just to pay it - although they were openly and readily saying that it was their mistake. Don't get me wrong, the care has been good and we would be happy to pay basically any price for a good care. We just hate the complete incompetence and unprofessional work on their admin & invoicing. You just can't run a business like that. We won't go ever again to Avenue hospital and advise you to avoid them as well. On the other hand, if you just want good care and don't mind completely random invoicing and that you might end up paying whatever, that's the place to go. But I guess there are also other good hospitals that have some clue what they should be charging and what not. To be clear, this is not about the money. It's how they run things and treat you! To drive a point. You can see their response below and offer to follow-up. I sent them email within 24 hours of that. Now it's a week later and ... nothing. I guess the Social Media team is instructed to try to fake that they care.
If I could give zero star I definitely would. All they care about is their fees. I went to the hospital for a Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy. My appointment was at 8:15AM. I went there at 7:15AM because I needed to do a rapid antigen test for covid. Had to wait for 30 minutes because they didn’t have the kits!!!! Then finally I was admitted for my procedure (not to mention, just as usual if there are white patients in the line they are always priority - after 11 years of living in Australia I kind of accepted this). Those who have done this procedure know for sure the preparation is exhausting, I literally hadn’t eaten for like 24 hours and only had drunk the fluids. I was admitted around 8:10AM and had to wait for 3 hours (I am still waiting as I write this review) and nothing. They only have one procedure room so I saw two other patients before me who were also waiting for so long for the same procedure. Eventually at 11:00AM one of the nurses came and started the preparation like putting the needle to my arm etc. I just can’t believe a private hospital self funded (I paid $2K for this) is worse a lot worse than a public hospital. I have had to do this procedure at Alfred and the waiting time was only 45 minutes. Due to COVID19 I had to go to a private hospital. Please just don’t go to this hospital because they are so transactional and even though staff is kind, the fact that they don’t give a damn about people’s time is beyond exhausting. I have my father who has a cancer in my care and can’t believe that none of these matter to this hospital. I don’t know about other private hospitals, but if your doctor asks you to do whatever you need to do in a private hospital just please read reviews first and find somewhere else.
Appalling hospital in many ways. My partner was recently in the hospital for surgery (overnight stay). When being taken into surgery by the nurses, they kept getting the floor incorrect and he was taken back and forth between multiple levels. The surgeon was clearly also very annoyed at this. When visiting him, I noticed how rude the nurses were to patients and people calling. However, the worst part of all happened on the morning of discharge. I was told to get there at 10am to pick him up. Which I did. 11:00 comes, and no one has come in to remove his drains or even giving any updates on when they would be doing this. Finally at 1130 a nurse comes to remove the drains, and when doing so she cut herself. She then left (with half the drain still in his stomach), and we waited 15 minute for a different nurse to come and finish the removal. We were then advised that as a cross-contamination of blood had occurred, he and the nurse would both need blood tests to be done that day to check for any infections. No problems - mistakes happen that's fair enough. After waiting another hour for pathology, we finally discharged at 1pm. However, the absolute appalling part of all of this is that it's now almost 3 weeks since leaving the hospital, and not one person has followed up with my partner to let him know the results of the blood test! This is just not acceptable!!!
I very recently had a major joint replacement here. Admission was fine. Nursing staff were a bit hit and miss. Either fantastic, or really bad. No In between. I was really struggling with pain management due to having an opiod tolerance from inuries suffered in an MVA, and treating doctors handled this brilliantly. The two star rating is because of the state of the facilities and the food quality and variety. Received the wrong meal several times, the food was very ordinary at best, to the point where I just started ordering sandwiches. It The menu variety was also disappointing. The TV remote (on the same remote as the call button, light button etc,) was so worn out the buttons didn't work, the bed was so old and in such a poor state of repair that I felt like I was in a third world country. The room needed some serious rectification and as one of my visitors said Ï thought "The Avenue"hospital would have been a lot nicer than this"I had to agree with her. As much as I understand the hospital is there to help sick people get well, a pleasant surrounding makes that easier. I actually didn't want to have this surgery at this hospital, after two previous ordinary experiences, but my surgeon said it was the best equipped hospital for the surgery I was having. So I went to the avenue again, and once again, regretted it.
On the ward the Nurses were very caring and lovely. My only gripe would be they need to pay more attention to security of valuables to be locked in a safe rather than patient drawers. A couple of times the drawers with my valuables had been left unlocked. I would like to give a big thank you to Kate my Nurse, what a sweetie, so caring. I was feeling so out of sorts and I could not even crack a smile but Kate didn't seem to mind, she was so supportive. Thank you Kate for your care. Thank you Professor O'Brien for your care as well, as I know I was not your easiest case. I have already dropped a few kilograms so just need to lose a lot more over the coming months and I will be so happy with the result. The Avenue needs to do cleaning audits if they don't already as the first room I went to had pubic hair all over the bathroom floor and hanging off the soap holder. I brought this to the attention of the Nurse and it was promptly cleaned by the cleaning department. The cleaning staff were very friendly and apologised for this dilemma, even though they did not personally clean this room or bathroom. The second room I was sent to was fine, nice and clean, modern and up to date, very comfortable. I was very happy with the staff and I would go back there again. Thank you
MINUS STARS Terrible experience Disgraceful documentation and record keeping! I have been unwell since breast reduction 6 years ago. Cannot understand what has happened due to lacking critical documentation whilst in the operating room. Many gaps in data. Absent admission notes. Disgraceful surgical outcome. Breasts torn from chestwall and tissue torn from sternum. Many abnormal findings in EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT 2 days later and NO explanation! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REPORT ADVERSE OUTCOMES AND POOR PRACTITIONER CONDUCT TO AHPRA NO MATTER HOW LONG AFTER, AND UNSATISFACTORY HOSPITAL DOCUMENTATION! IT’S NOT OK! Request records IMMEDIATELY before any alterations or critical documentation can be removed! Without this reporting nothing will happen and poor conduct and record keeping will continue! This unfortunately is the only way of practitioner accountability! As every body knows, “if it isn’t documented, IT DIDN’T happen!” JUST TESTED POSITIVE TO MALIGNANT HYPERTHERMIA. Testing occurred as a result of this violent anaesthetic. Due to disgraceful record keeping, my life remained at risk. Anaesthetist chose not to refer me and place alert on my file. Now living with permanent damage. Avoid this hospital at all costs. Private system is notorious for hiding the truth!
On arrival paper all in oder excellent many thanks to warrick wright and his support mr ching and bradford any thanks. But that is where it stops. Ringing the bell for assistance wasin most caes a total waste of time. With an arm in a sling and side up on my bed and 2 hours i was devasted to wet my bed, this happened twice. So another day I am off the heavy drugs, need toilet, noone came so I managed to wriggle down and sqeeze past the sides, but indoing so I dislodged a bung in my hand and blood went everywhere as my blood isbeing thinned. Still no no one came so I had to go outand get someones attention. I was wiped down of blood, not washed clean nightie over the blood still on my stomach, then nothing for a few hours then a wonderful young man came in and arrangedmy meds about 5.30 then nothing until the night shift came on and I was attennded to by a lovely sympathetic nurse at 10.30pm.. I am putting this down here so I don't forget as I was angry and trumatised. Took 2 hours to change my bloodied bed. The food is good cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. So inshort I was sent to coventry fot putting blood around my room. I would welcome comments or your own experiences. I just want out of here. My name is Pat East not annon.
I would like to say my experience with EVERY single person associated with The Avenue Hospital has been excellent. I recently had surgery 3 months ago, and will have another surgery in a few weeks. From the lovely and kind people who would quickly and quietly clean my room, to the lovely people bringing food and collecting trays, to all the behind the scenes people. My nurses in particular Sarah were beyond amazing, Sarah was kind, genuine and compassionate. The nurses (and the physio) helped me shower and took so much care with an enormous amount of dignity. Nothing was too much trouble, and the kindness I was shown I will never forget in a very vulnerable time of my life. The theatre nurses, were so reassuring, they knew I was concerned / worried even though I don’t show it, they knew. The anaesthetist, the assisting surgeon and my surgeon David Young, you are an amazing team, that made me above all feel safe. Thank you all for your genuine and real kindness, compassion and help. I am naturally worried about my up coming surgery in a few weeks, but I feel completely safe with The Avenue Hospital and having the surgery at this magnificent hospital.
I attended The Avenue Hospital as a day patient. I’d never had surgery before and I was so nervous. Right from the beginning of my admission with Nurse Cat, I was treated with the uttermost respect, care, and kindness. I’ve never met such a kind Nurse and Cat went above and beyond to accommodate me. Nothing felt like it was a trouble and Cat did everything she could to make the experience comfortable. The whole team, led by Cat, made adjustments to fit my needs and calm my nerves. I felt listened to, respected and understood. The nursing staff frequently checked in on me and looked after me as an individual, not just another patient. I then had Nurse Amanda who look after me during the procedure and she was so kind. Then for the end of my procedure and infusion I had the wonderful Nurse Sarah look after me who was so caring, calm, and kind. She sat with me the whole time and chatted with me while the infusion was happening and this really helped with my nerves. I’m eternally grateful to the whole of The Avenue team, particularly the nursing staff who made my first visit to a hospital a reassuring and peaceful experience.
I have had a very disappointing experience with Dr Kalus. I had micro-lipo on my small double chin four years ago. I'm not one for writing reviews but after years searching for answers to the problems he has given me I feel I need to. A pocket of fat was left in the area, which unfortunately looks worse than before. When checking up on this I was told that I should have always been aware of the risks and was offered further surgery at my cost. I have tried fraxel, kybella and countless skin care options for the striations and lumps and will need a neck lift. I am very slim and in my 30s. I remember being asked "what was I upset about" when showing discomfort. His staff were lovely however his behaviour felt like he was running a plastic surgery factory. Going back for a checkup, with my head in a compression bandage, Dr Kalus was heading off for holidays and forgot me in the waiting room. Once again his staff were lovely while they had to apologise for him. I saw a friend yesterday who has had excellent results from another doctor and realised I truly did have a poor experience from a sub-par doctor.
Good morning .could you please pass onto the right department.. I just left my visit there.Firstly Mr David Sheppard he was my surgeon and I can't believe how comfortable i felt when he was telling me what to expect being my 1st surgery. He was nothing short of brilliant in all aspects . Then there are the nurses who looked after me. Di looked after me in the afternoon and she explained in detail what I had to do and she was so pleasant to talk to. My fiance is a personal carer for the elderly and even she said how lovely she was. Also to Emma who looked after me in the morning along with her student but I didn't get her name. I honestly felt like i wasnt even in hospital but a hotel the room was super clean and for my 1st experience in a hospital was so awesome, not that I'm hoping to return once again thank you too all that helped me ohhh and a big shout out to the kitchen that food was unbelievably good. Certainly not hospital quality but way above. I will be sharing my experience with everyone. Kind regards Robert Smith
I had my surgery earlier this year. Whilst I was in recovery, i was in pain and had a sore throat and told the theatre nurse about my situation (didn't care nor given me anything to cool it down). Many girls i know that had the same surgery (not naming what treatment) had something cold to cool it down. Also, I was very angry that i was in a room with a patient that she was watching a LOUD movie although her headphones were in i still could hear it. And this was right after i had my surgery and was in recovery, I was in pain. Many nurses came to check on us and not one politely told her off that I made my younger sibling to do it, whereas the patient was rude and didnt care. Moral of the story: NEVER share a room with anyone. I regret. Waste of 2k -- i got more sick and couldn't get back to sleep, i was in pain. Medicare doesn't even help us. If I known id be sharing a room with another person no way on earth I would give my money to this hospital.
Before having day surgery here a week ago, I read the reviews of this hospital and essentially braced myself for a horrible experience, but I had absolutely nothing to worry about, so I wanted to write this for anyone who is anxious about their upcoming stay here. The hospital is clean and calming, and the nurses are incredible. I was looked after so well and the nurses who work here are so wonderful, I wouldn’t have minded staying overnight (something I was dreading as a possibility of my operation). Jake, in particular, made my pre-operative wait 100 times better. He sat with me and chatted, and came down to the ‘waiting bay’ as he knew how nervous I was. Francis, my post-surgery nurse, was wonderful and funny and caring and kind. Trust me, I understand how horrible it is to wait for surgery, hungry and thirsty and nervous, but the people who work at The Avenue are basically angels. It’s an extremely good place to have something scary happen.
Most pathetic service ever seen in a private hospital. Much worse than a public hospital. I had gastroscopy procedure to be done and was there at the appointment time of 01:30, didn't get any attention till 05:00 pm. Got so upset that i left without the procedure. it could be because i was referred by Alfred and they are totally money minded people. I just don't understand why they give appointment time. Since everybody has got a time to be attended, why there is so much torture? i understand that in a hospital every patient may take a bit more or less time. But 03:30 hour delay was just not acceptable. Don't know how much more time i had to wait. I was not supposed to eat or drink even water since morning but they truly don't care... These selfish people literally don't care about patient's time and condition...Spoiled my entire day... Please look after yourself and don't get trapped in circumstances like mine...
Firstly I would to commend the wonderful nursing staff, theatre staff, and local physio. Their care during my six night stay following hip replacement surgery was excellent. On the down side one of the main recovery plans is to continually place ice packs or ice in a bag on the very swollen leg, hip, and thigh area and unfortunately as much as I requested, it appeared there was not enough in the freezers as some ice packs brought to me were barely cold. The surgeon kept reminding me during his morning visits to ice the area and I explained why it wasn't happening therefore the massive swelling did not subside during the six day stay. Another issue was the quality of meals was very average (compared to the two other times I'd spent in this hospital in 14 years) mainly the roast pork ordered for lunch/dinner one day and three slices of ham came out on the plate. Once again, the staff are wonderful.
The attention and service I received at the Avenue hospital was excellent. The Nurses were very caring. The "High Risk" ward where I was put after my operation, the nurses were also good, but just out of an op, and put in with 4 other people, was a bit much. The Italian lady next to me had wall to wall visitors and there were no restraints on visitors. We were all trying to recover and we had to put up with all the noises and moaning. It was not pleasant. The nurses should limit visitors and times of stay, after all it is a High Risk ward. The Italian lady needed rest, like the rest of us. But finally I was put in a private room and it was excellent. The only other gripe I have is that Doctors and Nurses sent me home with only endone and panidol for pain and it definitely was not enough. Pain management needs to be stepped up. You cannot heal or do exercises if you are in severe pain.
I recently had a knee replacement at your hospital. I was expecting top service but unfortunately this didn't happen. My experience at the Avenue was not good. Firstly there was a lack of nursing staff so subsequently it took far too long for a nurse to come when needed. on some days I wasnt showered until after lunch. On the first day after my op the doctor gave instructions to the nurse that I needed restrictive sox and ice packs on my leg and these were not put on until two days later. cleanliness was another problem. The cleaner had one wet cloth and this same cloth was used for the toilet as well as the wash basin. My stay was seven days and at no time did she do the bathroom with a mop and dissinfectant. On each occasion she was finished in five minutes. I was very disappointed with numerous aspects of my stay and I would not recommend the hospital to anyone.. Peter Nikitin
I spent 4 days in The Avenue for some fairly major surgery and was delighted with the level of care provided. The room was spacious and comfortable. When I brought attention to a fault with the bed it was quickly replaced. The food was excellent with a wide variety of choice and dinner always included soup and sweets. The staff delivering the food and others responsible for maintaining the room were friendly and efficient. The nursing staff were brilliant. They carried out their duties carefully and their attention to detail and responsiveness was reassuring. A special mention to Taylah and Nicole who were with me most days and to Rachel who booked me out. I was visited every day by my surgeon, Dr Eugene Ek and Dr Chin who advised me of the recovery process and kept in touch with my progress. I always felt that I had the very best people managing my post-op care.
Overdue for an upgrade for a private hospital it didn't meet expectations in fact with the $500 excess would of been far better spent at a hotel! felt as if I was pushed to leave the hospital after day 1 after my surgery and the nursing had to gain the doctors permission to allow me to stay longer," I was clearly suffering from a reaction to the anaesthesia nausea, dizziness and sweating profusely can't eat or drink at all, and have the nurses saying your blood pressure is low and I couldn't pour the water into the jug from being so ill and dehydrated, "you will need another drip if you don't drink" and had to explain the the fact I couldn't pour the water jug and needed help and that would be why I am dehydrated?! feeling the nursing staff need to take a step back and out themselves in the patients shoes and remember that kindness is free.
One of the worst hospital, I stayed there for 5 days from 8th August to 12th and for that 4 nights they didn’t even change my bed linens, they only vacuumed my room and mop the toilet just one day. The staff left the bed linen on my table and one of my friends changed it for me. Some nurses are not friendly and they didn’t even bother to empty my urine bag and they only did after my Aunty asked them to change, day after the surgery while I was eMobile and nurse left the towel on my bed and asked me to wipe down my self and I was under heavy medication including mofine to suppress the pain and I couldn’t even move an inch. This is unacceptable considering while I was in public hospital nurses wipe me down without hesitation for a different procedure. In my good concerns I would not recommend this hospital for anybody for any procedure
If I could give no stars I would. I had an appointment here which I had to wait a while to get understandably with Covid. I get there at 7:50am for my 8am appointment (which was requested over the phone). I get there, the door is locked which is fine and the moody reception walks on past and give a side eye. She had lost her capability to smile clearly. At 7:59 I looked through the window as I thought it’s a bit harsh to make patient wait in the freezing cold. She locks eyes eye me again while she’s sitting inside and again, give a dirty look. She then storms out and aggressively says we open at 8! If I’m $200 for just a consult I expect something a little more than a grumpy reception who doesn’t know basic customer service. There are a hundred other gastroenterologists around. Avoid this one. Better yet, if you can just go public!
My son had a tonsillectomy surgery at the hospital with Dr Glenn Watson. The hospital service was wonderful, right from the start everything was well organised. Staff were very nice and accommodating. My son was extremely worried and unsettled, they took every measure to make him feel at ease. Everything at the hospital was clean and nurses tool good care of him throughout the day and night. My son wasn't sleeping well on his first night, and nurses were very supportive, they kept checking on him throughout the night. To be honest, after reading some negative reviews here, I was a bit concerned, but everything went well above standard and more than we expected. They even went beyond the usual to let me comfort my son during anesthesia. I'm pleased and blessed to have had such welcoming gesture and support for my son's surgery.
I felt privileged to be a patient at The Avenue Hospital, Windsor. The Nurses, Physiotherapists, Radiographers and Orderlies were so caring, professional, cheerful and considerate. I didn’t ever feel like I was a “nuisance” when I had to call for assistance (and help always arrived immediately). The catering staff were also a delight, punctuating the day with their huge smiles and plentiful offerings of meals, snacks and drinks. I only discovered by asking that the nurses were working huge shifts, but their competent attention and smiles never wavered, even at the end of a lengthy and demanding shift. I’d like to thank every person who helped me and made my stay so comfortable. Highly recommend this hospital for it’s impressive level of care and caring.
Recently stayed for knee surgery. Being able to park right at the front door, have nurses come to my room in less than a minute and be happy to help with the simplest of things like tying shoe laces when I had a buggered knee made ALL the difference. (Thanks Kristen) The room was very large, private en-suite well appointed and everyone frankly had the time and ability to care about my wellbeing and comfort. I would have dealt with 20+ people from various departments and all couldn't do enough to help me. I comfortably worked with a laptop and felt no sense of concern having electronics left unattended in my room. Simply outstanding guys, thank you so much for holding such high personal and professional standards, it was a pleasure.
I can't speak highly enough of the staff and nurses that work here. I got a tonsillectomy two weeks ago and Faye, Marissa and Sarah were incredibly supportive and helpful. These nurses are honestly some of the nicest, most caring, genuine and kind nurses and people I have ever met and received professional treatment and support from. I cannot speak highly enough of them. Marissa and Faye were incredibly helpful and supportive pre and post surgery and gave me tonnes of support. Sarah was super helpful and supportive in the morning when I was about to be released from hospital. The customer service and professionalism was impeccable. Thank you very much Faye, Marissa and Sarah. You are all awesome!
The lady behind the desk on level one was very rude and did not want to do her job and when I told her that the nurses told me to come out there and give them a contact number so someone could contact me she told me she wasn’t going to do it not her job I think her name was Helen very rude and lazy should not be in the job if she don’t want to work. Not a good look as she is your first point of contact when u walk in not professional. Was told we would get a private room that never happened had better service with the public system especially when we paid 18 thousand for the op no health fund and this is how u get treated avoid this place at all cost it is just a circus not happy won’t be back
I was so worried reading all the negative reviews for this hospital before my procedure but I had an exceptional experience at the Avenue. The staff here are so genuinely caring and make you feel so at ease. I felt cared for and listened to throughout my stay and I was constantly reassured I was in good hand. The changeover between staff was seamless everytime, I was always introduced to my new nurse, everything was done by the books and even the food was nice! Thank you to the staff at the Avenue for making me feel safe and cared for. And if you have been worried by negative reviews, just putting your mind at ease: my experience was the best I could have hoped for.
Nursing staff were hit and miss but definitely over worked 1 nurse to 10 patients. Terrible for private facilities. Pain management was abysmal and almost bordering on sadistic. I cannot understand why it is so hard to manage after surgery pain. Had to share a room even though its private insurance. Facilities and service lacking compared to a public hospital. Really wonder whether private health insurance is worth it after my last two private hospital stays. Had to pay $25 for wifi internet that was extremely slow and only allowed 200mb per day - peanuts basically. TV screen tiny and no head sets, so have to listen to room mates tv also.
The Avenue Hospital gave me the best care, from reception employees to ward nurses, surgery team, and care in my room after surgery. I would like to thank everybody who looked after me on McCellar ward, Joanne, Dianne, Rama, Leisa, Nubilah, Marlo, doctor Chris Moss and Dr Chris (Anatestis), Nat Natalie, beautiful nurse with pink surgical scarf, Lee (male nurse) and many more I just couldn't remember their names. They kept me comfortable and warm. I didn't have to use my buzzer as they were coming regularly to my room and asked me if I need any help. I thank everybody in The Avenue hospital from the bottom of my heart.
Certainly not a good experience and that rating is because of their behavior for nursing students. I wish to complain and ask for an apology from them but I could not do it yet. I didn't do anything wrong and proved that too and my head of the school acknowledged that. But I was sent back without completing my placements. Their senior nursing manager also insulted me in front of my clinical supervisor and twice said that in my culture I think women are inferior or low. I complained to my union too in writing, but nothing happened. Not even an opology. Worse experience of my lifetime.
I had a PAO performed at The Avenue Hospital last month and could not be happier with the service and care I received. From the initial check in I was treated with care and compassion. I spent five nights on the Orthopedic ward and cannot complain about a thing. The nurses were attentive, caring and up for a laugh, always popping their heads in to make sure I was comfortable. The Physios were caring and made sure I always felt safe whilst trying my exercises, the cleaners were polite and the food was fantastic. Truly felt like a hotel stay with good medications.
I had elective surgery here (23/3/17) and had a great experience with every worker I came across. when I woke up from anaesthesia I started to get really hot, sweaty, panicky and threw up blood. The nurses were so helpful and so sweet. They were assuring me that everything will be alright and just super attentive and really lovely. One nurse was stroking my hair and looking at me with "mum eyes" (she was probably 5 years younger than me) but she gave me this look a mum would towards a sick child, I can't explain it but they were super lovely.
Reception staff are rude and pathetic! They couldn't find my name in the system then couldn't get it right. It took ages to fix everything and call the health fund. What was the point in answering all forms online the day before if they can't find them in the system. Had to go over everything again - waste of time. Then the stupid nurse got distracted (her words) and call the wrong person to pick me up. Excuse me, can you read???!!! Got distracted?! So next time you can make a mistake that can cost a lot more. Goodness me!!
I spent 3 days in this hospital on in October 2022. For a basic procedure. I unfortunately had a reaction to aniescedic. The staff and Dr,s care was second to none. I very much appreciate the annomous effort all the hospital stuff put in. Around the clock care. Even tho your short on staff. Well managed polite and respectful. The only downside Is sometimes after pressing the nurse call button I had to wait so long for a nurse to come. It could have been crucial. Othere then that cannot fault and would happily go here again
I am currently a patient there and have been since 8/12/22 the staff there especially the nurses are all fantastic they go above and beyond their duties to look after you medical needs and make you super comfortable. My only complaint is the food, normally at private hospitals the food is very nice but this place isn’t, out of 4 meals I’ve had so far the scrambled eggs were nice and all the rest of the food has been horrible, unfortunately I live too far away for visitors so I can’t get people to bring me food
Patient Service care was consistently excellent by all staff from admission to discharge . My only disappointment was the fee charged at admission" fee for incidentals $25". Not explained at admission however when I queried the charge I was told this was for use of tv wifi and phone whether you use it or not. hopefully patients will not be billed in the future for other additional services provided hospital eg utilities, use of toilet, cleaning, extra sugar and milk, etc. Once again the patient care was fantastic
Terrible terrible experience at this hospital. Went in for surgery, had my medication taken off me for not having the ‘correct packaging’ & then made me buy the same medication from their pharmacy. They called me once I left to say to come pick up the medication, when I get there, they’d thrown it out. I was given little to no information about what to do when I left, I was given no information about the medication they’d given me, they were absolutely useless. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone.
Husband had his shoulder fixed by Shain Barwood, all went perfectly! Admissions were professional quick thorough, nursing also perfect eg cannula inserted into veins 1st go with no pain, food excellent support staff eg Physiotherapy and tea lady excellent service outstanding. Only issue is drugs on discharge prescribed 24 hrs earlier, not available until 1 hr after discharge so I left without them . It took a call to my dr to get a prescription I dropped in picked it up and had in filled on way home.
After suffering a knee injury which required full reconstructive surgery, I was admitted to spend 3 nights stay at The Avenue Hospital. I couldn’t be happier with the amazing staff, especially Maddy, Bijaya and Branton, for taking care of me during this time. Each and every one of them were responsive, friendly, caring and did everything they could to make me feel comfortable. I can’t thank them enough for the exceptional service. Amazing work team!
I am currently an in patient at this hospital, the food is disastrous, tasteless and not very appealing or nutritious and certainly not very presentable. I will say , the desserts are not bad but I am not a dessert person. I am having to ask family to bring me food in from home. Thanks god the the sandwiches are at least chewable. If you are planing on coming here have the Uber eats app you will need it to order some presentable tasty food.
Big Shout to Kate & other nursing staff for being such great support during Surgery Stay at The Avenue Hospital. The staff is very supportive and take genuine care specially when you are pretty much dependent after surgery rehab. Apart from Support Staff, i found Hospital Management very average , infact public hosptals has better processes and resources, They had very limited staff and all the nurses doing twice the amount of work.
Attending the Avenue Hospital today was my first experience having a procedure performed in a hospital. Reception had all my paperwork in perfect order and I went through very quickly. The one thing I remember about the nursing staff were their smiles. I am grateful to have a first time experience where I was in a bed looking up at so many people smiling down at me. This helped me feel relaxed. Holly was particularly lovely.
I specifically asked for a ‘no/minimum gap surgeon’ and was allocated one based on my request. But still end up $5500 out of pocket and were very vague about why I had to pay that up front. Also, I requested vegetarian meals and every single time I got chicken broth and jelly (gelatine), so I go sick of reminding them and didn’t eat in the end. One strange nurse took my blood pressure from my forearm which was very unusual.
Disgusting. I was sheduelled to have an opperation today. The day began when I recieved a call from the staff to get in as quickly as possible, not at my sheduelled time. I raced in and i was prepped for surgery only to wait around for 9 hours before being told that my surgery was cancelled. I have never felt so humiliated in my life. I am now left with the option of having surgery at a later date, or having a job.
Probably one of the finest hospitals and finest staff I have ever visited. Underwent a major 2 hours surgery by Dr David Young. The nurses were so caring that I can't explain in words. The hospital was very caring which I can't explain in words. They took care of my every need and helped me with everything. Couldn't thank them enough by just paying the expense. Had 2 days stay there. Would definitely recommend it.
I am disappointing with the service received from level 1 .... they welcomed me in a very cold .... I repeatedly said my lactose intolerance (I also had a bracelet for this) and they brought me yougurt, butter. ... when I called the nurse instead of apologizing, she laughed in my face !!! Did you know that people can die from anaphylactic shock ??? People working in the kitchen should be careful !!! Bad hospital
Recently I had day Surgery and would like to make a Special mention to Kathleen & Jona, whom were the nurses that took care of me through Surgery from pre to post. They both had Great People skills and a Wealth of knowledge in MOH Surgery. The Surgeon Dr Adam Sheridan did a thorough Job. I’ve been admitted for this procedure on numerous occasions and there has been a vast improvement on Hospital Admissions Staff.
I expected more compassionate service to not only to the patients but to family members. I sat in the ward for five hours whilst my wife was in surgery and not once did anyone inform me of her progress. I didn't even know she was out until the wheeled her in. The nurse looking after her after surgery was loudly chewing gum whilst attending to the patients in the ward. Overall, I am not impressed.
My experience coming here was amazing. From the get go. The level of care from Sloane Rama Diane Brad and Mary. They knew it was my first ever admission to hospital. I was very scared as I was having an eye lid operation. Would recommend the Avenue for the wonderful care they give. The food was lovely and if you needed anything else it was there for you. They actually cannot do enough for you.
Had a really great experience here. There was a bit of a wait from admission time which was a bit uncomfortable as I had been fasting all day. But the nurses were lovely, attentive and friendly. I woke up pretty animated after sedation but they handled everything really well. They definitely know what they’re doing and would be very happy to go there again should I ever need to in the future.
Surgical procedure with a one night stay. Plenty of information provided prior to admission date. Admission itself was the smoothest process ever experienced. Nurses are absolutely amazing and serviced all my requests and showed great caring and understanding with prompt responses. Room was nice and quiet, with WiFi and TV. Certainly am exceptional private health experience.
I can't speak highly enough of the staff & care at the Avenue. They were caring, considerate & kind. As another person stated they are a little slow to respond to the bell, but the way I see it is that they are extremely busy. None of my matters were urgent so the effect on me was minimal. Special thanks to Sorcha, Ellen & Davis in the Paterson ward for their care.
I recently had a stay at The Avenue Hospital and I was very impressed with the hospital and staff . Nothing was too much , the room was very clean and spacious . Food was very good . I had a beautiful nurse who went way above what I expected . Her name was Julia, I am going back to the hospital next month and I hope to have the same review afterwards
A great hospital with excellent Covid screening process and care for patients. The MRI in radiology was excellent to diagnose my damaged ankle and provide immediate feedback to my specialist. Staff are friendly, efficient, and professional. When visiting the hospital please take into consideration extra time required for filling out paperwork.
Very dissapointed with your billing department. The hospital has an agreement with Alliance to cover hospital bills but they still charged me on my credit card. The insurance company has already settle the bill with you but now I have to wait for three weeks to get my money back. Who is going to cover the interest from this payment?
In recently for hip surgery. Room was nice, support was great and would like to call out Michael from the Phillipines who was my night nurse. He was so attentive, caring and a real comfort on the nights I was feeling overwhelmed. Rick who took me to get x-rayed is another absolute ray of sunshine working at that hospital.
I recently visited the Avenue Hospital for a procedure on my feet. I stayed in for 2 nights and stayed in a shared room. My stay was very comfortable, the staff were very kind and attentive: special shout out to Kaylah, Nicole, Mietta, Chloe (the physio) & John (the porter) who is a total legend.
My child had her tonsils removed at this hospital by Dr Watson. From the minute we arrived and until we left we were treated like royalty. They even supplied dinner for the parent. We are extremely grateful. A special big thanks to nurse Jessa for taking extra special care of my princess Leah.
I went in for angiogram and angioplasty. I could not fault the nursing staff there, they were so patient and understanding. I would recommend The Avenue, Windsor to everyone. I have always had this thing, that you treat people the way you want to be treated. I find that it works.
From Reception to Recovery room, i found everyone to be Very lovely, friendly and Professional staff. I highly recommend this Hospital, and I would like to extend a Big "Thank You" to my Recovery Nurse 'Cass' or 'Kass', who was absolutely wonderful on Tuesday Afternoon 27th Nov.
I hate hospitals, but I had to have an operation... the staff here were exceptional the Nurses are an asset, I felt very comfortable and safe, all questions were expertly answered, every need cared for, would definitely come back if I had to go to a hospital again. 3 night stay.
Excellent patient care. Extremely impressed by all the staff who took the time to make sure I was comfortable. They made sure that they communicated the procedure to me and made sure that I was well looked after both before and after the procedure. Well done Avenue staff. …
horrible organization. Had a admission for 3:30 that I had to fast for Then I did not have that surgery that day booked month in advance because they could not handle their time or beds. Dissapointed and starved myself for nothing and staff had no idea about what was happening.
Such an amazing hospital. I have just woken from Surgery and I am receiving such great care from all the staff. A special shoutout to Marianthi, my ward nurse, who is the living embodiment of Florence Nightingale and is making my recovery so much better.
Reception staff over the Christmas period are pathetic! Came in over the holidays and have no clue. Unfriendly and unhelpful. Normal reception staff are fantastic haven't had a problem with them in the past, just the holiday season stuff! Goodness me!!
I have just had a full hip replacement at the Avenue, with the other due in December. These guys are amazing particularly the ward staff, so caring and understanding they have your health and well being first & foremost. Looking forward to coming back.
Our 16 year old son underwent an ACL surgery under Mark O’Sullivan and his team . We like to express our gratitude to Mark and the whole team at hospital who made this very difficult journey as easy as they could give the challenges our son is facing .
Just spoke to Cameron in admissions and he was super helpful in answering all my questions and following up on a couple of things for me as well. Have been a patient at The Avenue hospital previously and have always received excellent patient care.
Went there for my 12 week scan and had a great experience. Staff were friendly, the sonographer skilled and vene the ultrasound gel was warm :). I very much recommend this clinic for your 12 week scan. Unfortunately they don't do the 20 week scan.
Had surgery done here and it was honestly the best experience in a hospital I have had, everyone was friendly and professional they were very quick to get things sorted and the nurses I dealt with were definitely amazing! I highly recommend!
Dreadful.Staff looked busy and took a long time to answer buzzer when she had pain after her surgery. I was visiting my mother who had abdominal surgery and she wanted to be transferred to Cabrini but wasnt possible. Not a great experience.
I was in for a procedure today and I am very needle-phobic. I cannot get over how incredibly kind and patient and communicative the staff were. I had an amazing nurse with me for the anesthetic but didn't catch her name and a caring nurse
Two overnight attendances with my son where I stayed over with him. On each occasion I felt spoilt. More like a nice motel than hospital. Awesome friendly staff and delicious food. Plenty available between meals if necessary. Thank you.
Had my 13 year old daughter on a hospital bed prepared to go in to surgery, to be told - not enough staff, go home. Also, we can't refund you becuase we don't have staff that can do that. This place is a circus. Avoid if you can.
Very poor experience! I went in for a gastric bypass procedure. When I awoke not only was I told that the procedure was unsuccessful but one of the staff had also backed over my wife in his car. Also, very slow delivery drivers.
This hospital lacks any understanding of effective clinical care. They have no systems to give information from surgery to the wards. The nursing staff are unkind with absolutely no compassion. Please don't go to this hospital.
I had the best experience here. My first time as a private patient. They were exceedingly well. As a nurse I have high standards, and everyone was so lovely, always made to feel heard and kept comfortable. Thanks mcallah ward.
A clean and quiet hospital. Went for an Xray and ultrasound. The service was very professional and courteous. They bulk bill. The downside was yhat yhe toilets needed maintenace. Spap dispensers and toilet seats were broken.
An excellent hospital run by well trained staff with excellent skills, and all tasks carried out always with the welfare of patientsforemist in their minds. My third visit .No hesitation to n reckon mending your hospital.
I had 3 nights in hospital after a Total Ankle Replacement. The facilities and room were a very high standard. The meals were surprising good. The nursing and support staff were attentive, friendly and very professional.
I can not praise the staff enough the care I have been given after surgery has been outstanding. That includes all staff not only Nurses and Doctors. Food was exceptional lots of variety to cover all requirements.
This hospital is amazing staff go above and beyond in taking care of you. Dr Nottle performed my operation he is such a caring wonderful man along with the theatre staff. I would recommend this hospital to anyone.
I was in hospital for surgery 15/09/22 I was looked after by 2 of the most beautiful nurses I have met. Their names were Sarah and Rian. They made me very comfortable and went above and beyond for me. Thank you
Had a total knee replacement 16mths ago, hospital and nurses were fantastic spent a week there. No gripes at all. Spent another 3 days there last week all went well recomond the hospital very highly.
Absolutely the best care I’ve ever had in hospital this was my second knee replacement and the staff facility food physio was outstanding nurses were just beautiful food amazing couldn’t fault it
Would not recommend this place for day surgery. Admission time 10.30 2 hours still waiting to go to surgery. cafeteria food is terrible bread is stale and they charge 1.25% for using card.
A very dedicated team, with the patient number one priority by far. My latest experience was in October, 2019,203 B. My wish is for you all to enjoy your Christmas, and a happy new year.
3rd time here, hospital staff very approachable and caring. Food very tasty and well presented, compared to 2 years ago. Ward very clean, renovated rooms and bathroom must be completed.
I received wonderful care at the Dermatology Mohs Skin Cancer Department. Dr Sheridan and the nursing team (Stency and Kathleen especially) were caring and excellent at what they do.
I was here for an abdominal scan. Staff at reception was friendly and Ben in Radiology department was very kind and thorough. Everything was done on time with least waiting.
I had a day procedure and all staff from reception to nurses and Doctors were fantastic as were admin staff who made sure I was informed just as Drs and nurses did.
Just had a colonoscopy today and may I say how fantastic my surgeon his team and the nurses were making my short stay very very comfortable Thankyou Tim Barrow
I have been to this hospital numerous times now and the level of care is fantastic, the staff on Level 2 Paterson are absolutely amazing. 5 stars from me.
I had a positive experience here. Everything went smoothly and the staff were friendly and helpful.
One star is very generous.
