This is not going to be a great review because mistakes were made! Partly by me, but also by the people running the cafe. There is a saying about sticking to what you are good at. So, if you are looking for an Irish breakfast, as I was, I shouldn't have walked in to an Italian cafe and expected to find one. And hear in lies the problem. Bittersweet cannot, right now, produce a decent Irish Breakfast, but their coffee and pastries are excellent. My wife had pancakes and whipped cream with maple syrup with walnuts too, which were fantastic. I learnt a lesson and won't make the same mistake again. Sorry guys, but as far as the full Irish was concerned both the white and black puddings were hard, the fried egg was crispy and the sausages poor quality and no mushrooms. The other stuff looked great, but the key message here is stick to what you are good at.

Our family of 7 (2 adults, 5 kids) went here on a Sunday morning. My 7 year old had researched the best pancakes in Dublin and really wanted to try here. He is a bit of a pancake expert and he was not disappointed! Beautiful, fluffy, loads on the plate. Just fantastic. We tried the pancakes with chocolate sauce, with maple syrup and with bananas. All brilliant. A few of us also tried the cinnamon French toast which was yummy. Eldest son tried the Irish breakfast and was suitably impressed. With soft drinks for the smaller 3, and 3 coffees for the olders, the bill (including tip) came to €125. Very good value in my opinion. We were stuffed and happy. The staff were brilliant and whoever is running the sounds in the backgrounds has it down. Well worth a visit on the way to Christchurch cathedral!

Fiind it really difficult to leave a reviews as there it s not any fb or website. Me and my boyfriend was walking by coffee shop today, We had to go in for a coffee and I was asking about the soup, when the girls told me ‘’truffle soup “ I just found it a bit insecure for a “coffee shop “ so I ask the chef if I can taste it first , but WOW the best soup what I had in my life even from high ends restaurants , very nice flavour of caramelised celeriac and a touch of truffle , just wow what a amazing job ! The cafe very nice with a lot of home made cakes on display, they had chocolate muffins out of the oven while we been waiting ,they was smelling just amazing! The girls and the chef very kind and full of attention for their job! Totally recommend for a good coffee and soup to warm your heart in this time!

Excellent, friendly service. The food was delicious and the cafe, extremely clean-Dutch clean-squeaky clean! For those of you familiar with many of the eateries in Dublin, you know what I mean. The Irish breakfast I ordered was the best I had on my trip. The coffee and scone my wife had were delicious! Bittersweet is cosy, and inviting. A great place to stop for a bite. We were not rushed and made to feel - like most of the eateries in Dublin - that you were more like a family member coming in for a meal than just a customer. For those making the walk up from Trinity College or the downtown to visit Christ Church, St. Patricks or Dubinia, it is a great spot to stop and take it all in or on the way back into the heart of the city. One of the most memorable cafes of our trip!

We were in Dublin for 3 mornings and had the creamy porridge here three times! My 4 year old insisted we stop for our 3rd serving of porridge on the morning of our travel day. The staff is beyond kind and aa accommodating and on all 3 days they went above and beyond to make our party of 7 which included 2 young children feel welcome. Everything we tried tasted scratch made and the coffee was excellent

Today I had a breakfast in this Caffe. So, staff made really nice FlatWhite. Good foam and taste. Thank you ⛔But! At the same time in our order were Cinnamon and Apricot Tart. If you want original Cinnamon you should to go in another shop because such dessert has different taste. No cream, just dry scone with Cinnamon spice. Apricot Tart. Good looking ☺️, sweet apricot jam inside. Service. Without " Hello" and " Good morning" and smile. Honestly, I have bad aftertaste Coffee. Yes, if you need a cup of coffee or special tea, you can go in this Caffe.

Shocking service. We ordered two Irish breakfasts and a bagel with avocado and salmon. The bagel and avocado took so long to come out that the two Irish breakfasts were finished in the meantime. When asked how long it would be, the owner snapped and said that they were really busy. Who knew assembling a bagel with salmon and avocado was so taxing. A bittersweet experience that we won’t return to again.

What a nice cafe! I was looking for a place which offered not only full Irish but a bunch of other options for breakfast (sandwiches/bagels, omelets, pastries, etc) and this coffee did not disappoint. There was a great selection of morning pastries, a fairly extensive menu with several options for everyone, and a big drink menu too. I got the full Irish with a double espresso. Everything was good, served fast and prices were fair for such a location. Highly recommend!

We were going to Christchurch Cathedral for a tour. We wanted to get breakfast. We found The Bittersweet Cafe across the road. We started off with Red Berries and Ginger lattes which were delicious. I got the full Irish Breakfast. It was very good. This place is a great place for breakfast and brunch. They do everything!

Our day kicked off on a high note with a delightful breakfast at this charming cafe. The reasonably priced Irish breakfast was a fantastic start, and despite the indoor seating being full, our luck with the Irish weather allowed us to enjoy our meal outdoors. Sitting in adorable chairs by the road, sipping warm coffee, and relishing the amazing food set the tone for a perfect day. The friendly staff added to the positive vibes, making it a 5-star way to begin our day.

  • Hannah Muirhead

Cheerful wee caf that's open and serving good grub bright and early so if you get a flight into Dublin Airport at an ungodly hour it's the place to head to if you want a good breakfast and proper coffee in a central location. Reasonable prices and very generous portions. Plus very friendly staff. The cakes and pies look excellent.

Nice little cafe with good coffee and food selection. We had the soup of the day, which was tasty, plus a few other sandwiches, all good. The staff was very nice and professional. About the previous reviewer, who gave one star, just because you need to be vaccinated to sit down inside: it is not the place's decision to do that and simply underrating them based on this is very childish... This is a nice place and they deserve more customers :)

The following review is based on breakfast from the restaurant delivered by Deliveroo and may not affect your visit in person... Our 25 euro food arrived 45min after it's order. My breakfast bagel was like biting through cold tough cardboard. My wife's pancakes were greasy and some were not cooked all the way through. She didn't eat more than one... My dog loved them though ☺️ Edit: No... My didn't finish them neither...

Today I decided to take a walk around the city in the morning and I was lucky enough to find this delicious cafe along the way! The staff was very attentive and friendly, in addition to the sandwich that was delicious. The cappuccino was also creamy and served with a bit of powdered chocolate which I love. I can't wait to come back to try the rest of the other options they offer, I highly recommend it!

Drawn in by the smell whilst going on an early morning exploration of Dublin, went with the scrambled eggs on toast with bacon and onions, holy moly this is some of the best breakfast I've had in a while Friendly staff, mid range price, would go again for sure.

We received a totally different order.... An order which was far away from what we wanted, still I am reviewing that food: Chocolate croissant... Regular not bad, not good. 2 milkshakes ... Pretty bad Salmon bagel was good but the side was ruffles.... Apple pie ok. Some other cake(no idea what it was) not good at all I hope the people that got my Irish breakfasts enjoyed them

  • Mason Cox

Ordered the pancakes and they were amazing and filling, just wish they had more syrup. Place was a little kinda small and it took a bit, but only because they don’t have too many workers. Wish they would buy a place next to them and expand a bit, other than that amazing! Recommend going here for breakfast if visiting.

Nice little coffee shop. Very clean and cozy atmosphere. Food was good and coffee was REALLY good. Staff was very nice. Husband and I stopped in one morning and got a double espresso, an americano, egg in the hole sandwich, and scrambled egg on toast sandwich. All in all a wonderful experience, amazing bacon. Would recommend. Ask for the hot sauce, it’s fire

The fact that this place doesn't have a line out the door is shocking. This place has what maybe the best pancakes ever created. Super fluffy with a slightly crisp exterior and full of flavor. And their brownies are just ridiculously good, served warm with whipped cream on the side.

Coffee wasn't great, a bit milky and weak. Croissant was good. Problem is staff are so busy with takeaway deliveroo orders they don't have time to service in store customers. The other annoying thing is the line of deliveroo bicycles/ motorcycles and drivers standing right in front of you whilst you sit at the tables on the street.

Good coffee, friendly service, and a large selection of food. However, after having eaten six mornings in B&Bs all over Ireland, the ‘Full Irish Breakfast’ was a disappointment. The sausages were bland, the puddings tasteless, the eggs microscopic, and the ham poor quality.

My first meal in Dublin and I loved it. Got the full Irish breakfast and it did not disappoint. I've got a full belly and I'm ready to walk and pub hop. Small place and is busy, but I highly recommend if you are visiting from out of town and need a quick and yummy breakfast. I'll probably eat here every morning I'm here.

Panini with cheese... cold and not fade. Potatoes not very good. Service not good at all (the woman who were cleaning the tables pushed me outside while I was waiting and grumbled when I asked to go to the toilets) Also, very expansive for the quantity (and the quality)

What I love about Dublin is the way we have embraced "Cafe Culture". Georgian Dublin was renowned for its Coffee Houses. So its a treat to find a special one in one of the oldest parts of Dublin. Bittersweet Cafe served me up gorgeous Coffee and the Breakfast Bagel was a lovely treat too.

  • James Waud

What a find! We had been walking around looking for somewhere all morning and finally decided on the Bittersweet Cafe. Turned out to be the best decision, the full Irish was amazing the portions of other meals were huge. The service was brilliant and they all worked incredibly hard.

  • Melissa Johnson

This was the best coffee I had in all of Ireland! The shop uses illy coffee. I had a latte with non-dairy milk and it was bursting with a delicous coffee flavor. I can say that it was the best latte I ever had, so good I made sure to go back a second time my last morning in Dublin.

  • Ioannis Seitanidis

The coffee was good, probably better than other places with a fair price. The sausage roll was tasty (nice touch to give some sauce with it), quite big. There are many different options, not just some pastries if you want to try.
