Shame on these anti-patron "employees" (drones is more like it) for refusing me a library card even though I had proof of residency. They claimed they could not accept it because it was hand-written and "anyone could do that." When I reminded them that anyone could fake a printed form they merely sneered that that was the policy. The city should fire any staff that try to keep residents from using the library. Austin styles itself as a progressive city, so I was stunned to find such a reactionary, regressive, fascist library system. When I lived in progressive Fort Collins last summer the library did not even ask to see my lease; they immediately gave me a card. Same thing in West Palm Beach. Now I have to mail myself an empty envelope to prove residency - that's Texas for you, 3-day waiting period for a library card but you can get an assault rifle immediately even if you are on the no-fly terrorist watch list. In two months I will be back in Fort Collins and can hardly wait to leave regressive Austin. What a terrible first impression of Austin this backward library has given me.
Recently visited for the first time. Obviously not as robust as the Central Library but a pleasant "neighborhood library" kind of feel nonetheless. The staff was very friendly and quite helpful. Didn't have the exact book I wanted currently stocked but offered to transfer it in. Works for me. I just returned to college as an adult and was looking for a quiet place to study that was close to home. I think I may have found it.
I miss our library! I loved going here, and my kids loved the story time. The librarians were kind and knowledgeable and gave us good recommendations. I can’t wait for them to reopen so we can get back there.
Great library, nice friendly atmosphere. Used to come here a lot while growing up thanks to the bus stop near the entrance. Love coming back once in a while!
My favorite library in Austin! I teach ESL here and the librarians are wonderful, interesting people. I hope I get to teach here forever.
Small little library, limited selection unless you get something transferred from another branch, but the staff are very friendly.
Friendly, helpful staff. Good collection of books and blu rays.
Love library's. Thankful to Google and librarians.
