Too extensive for what it should be presenting. The layout of the place is for a hotel yet the food presentation is attempting to be exteemily fine and presise. We went in as a group of 8 and left hungry despite each person having a starter and main for themself. The meals are incredibly small, which is fine if they can deliver on flavour. However, the pork was very dry and the ratatouille was severely different from its description (containing no tomato based sauce, rather a creamy sauce) which should be explained in the menu as some of our group could not eat dairy and ordered this meal presuming it was dairy free. I will say, the oysters were delishous and very fresh and the fat on the pork was beautifuly tender and melted in the mouth. However what the restaurant needs is to bring the menu back to hearty basics as the complicated fine meals they are presenting are not hitting the right notes. Whether this is including the outside menu (pizzas etc) inside or changing the food to a more simple menu, pastas, steaks, schnitzels. This is a hotel restaurant so it needs to be accessible to the guests, however I feel if I took my kids here there wouldn't be anything on the menu for them. Also, we had a waiter spill water over the table and then walk away afterwards. Little things like acknowledging the accident and offering to clean it up go a long way rather than leaving a big water spill in the middle of the table and walking away.
Pretty average all round. Stood at the bar waiting for 15 minutes to be served when the bar tender who was making drinks in front of us the whole time told us it was a no service area. Would’ve been nice to know earlier. Moved to the other end to be served, then were told to go out to the deck to order. Bartenders outside told us to come back inside. Bartended outside was apologetic and agreed to take our order. Finally got my drink around 30 mins later. Friends who had already arrived before were still waiting on a cup of tea. Over 30 mins for hot water and a tea bag……. Food was also to be desired, veggies were undercooked & rock hard and the soup had to be sent back as it was cold. Pretty underwhelming experience overall. Special shout out to Phoebe and the guy with the grey patch in the back of his hair, didn’t catch his name. Both were lovely to deal with, very apologetic for things that weren’t their fault and just pleasant to deal with in general. Probably would have left if it weren’t for these two.

Went for Mother’s Day High Tea. The food was quite nice but the service and experience was underwhelming. Waited 20mins to be seated and then it was difficult to get any service from that time on. We eventually received the hot (just warm) food plates and asked the lady for Tea and coffee. She said she was just on food so couldn’t assist. I ended up getting up and asking for Tea. This eventually arrived and despite the teapot being brewed we were given a cup each and the tea pot taken away. No offer of any milk. The staff looked more like robots assigned to their roles and were more focused on cleaning up after guests who had left than assisting those there with an enjoyable experience. With the amount of people in the room there really needed to be multiple people capable of assisting with seating patrons and organising drinks. There was also supposed to be a competition running in relation to photos with the flower arrangement but this seemed non-existent which my daughter was disappointed about. Hopefully in the future these events might have more thought into the experience and customer service component.
I'm very sad to say I wouldn't come back.. It was extremely unexpected experience and not for good. It should be a 5 star restaurant and I been eating in a waiting room.. The waitres didn't know the menu and there was not a main course of fish, in Tasmania... unbelievable. The courses were cold and burn.. and I have to ask for new ones and come back rare and warm.. I shouldn't ask too much but I pay for a fine dining high class experience and I feel I was eating in an airport bar before departure.. who cares you are flying out and probably never come back.. Astonished for the low level of Hospitality Understanding.. CSI BELOW ZERO .. I work there when they built it and I spent there more than a year and I know the quality of the place and the inversion was huge.. I can't believe is so care less the managment and leve a place like this go down the exhaust water system..
Went today for lunch for my mums 60th birthday expecting a wonderful little bit fancy meal and experience but was terribly diassapointed. We ordered drunks and meals at the same time. We got our meals before drinks with two meals coming out and being told the pizza would be 5 miniutes. The cos lettuce in my mums cesear salad was disgusting and brown and my pork belly was definately not crispy as described. We returned the salad exchanging for another pizza. The other pizza eventually came, still no drinks. Eventually I sought out the manager Jasmine who was wonderful to her credit. She clearly could see there were issues in the kitchen and even refused to serve us the second pizza as it was not to standard. Seeing other reviews there is a clear issue in the kitchen. Service and food were terrible and we will not go back.
We arrived early at 6.30pm only to be informed that all the oysters & steaks had been soldout. It was a Tues night with not many patrons so thought this extremely poor food management. Decided to have sourdough bread as starter, it was sadly, very dry & burnt. For entree we shared calamari which was lovely. For main I had pork belly, over cooked & dry with no crispy skin. My partner had seafood pasta which she thought was okay but with very little flavour. We ordered wine with our meal which arrived after we had completed eating. The final disappointment was being served unfrozen ice cream in a paper cup which you could purchase from any corner store. This was naturally returned. The venue is lovely but unfortunately our experience was not great & I could not recommend this restaurant.
I had previously had breakfast and good coffee here and was keen to try lunch in the restaurant along with 2 friends. It was sad to see this large and imposing space near empty and so in need of tourists. Service was attentive and friendly. However, the food was quite disappointing. My pork belly dish was beautifully presented but quite small, and I say this as someone who does not enjoy large servings. The crackling on the meat was not very crisp and the meager accompanying dabs of oversugary purees and bland potato crouquet were not very flavoursome or texturally interesting. My friends' had steak dishes and were similarly underwhelmed. With a glass of wine and a coffee each the bill for 3 came in at $142.50.
This was my first visit at Core Restaurant & Bar. It is on the 4th floor and part of the Crown Plaza Hotel on Liverpool Street in wonderful Hobart. We were at lunch after a conference on the same floor. Wonderful alfresco area with good views all round. I ordered the Garlic Prawn Pizza and it was surprisingly good with fresh produce. The other members of my group applauded the Signature Beef Burger. The Marion Bay Chicken Supreme, and the grilled fish. Quick service for a busy hotel restaurant and a positive mention also to the friendly smiley service staff. Will certainly call in again and happy to recommend it.

A very disappointing experience. Although the meals were tasty, the portions were far too small. We had the 5 course banquet, which was far from being a banquet. Each course was barely a mouthful. We actually asked the waiter before ordering about portion sizes, and was assured that the first 2 course were small, but the 3rd was meal size (pork belly), there was barely a mouthful. I ordered 1/2 oysters to be shared between 2, however, 2 servings of 1/2 doz were served. I also ordered a bottle of wine ($60) and was charged $100. This was eventually remedied, but only after some insistence. One shouldn’t have to get takeaway after a 5 course banquet!!! But be prepared to do so.
Only come to core if you are feeling like a light snack and want to spend triple the amount you would spend elsewhere. Who wants that? Food is incredibly small and expensive for its quality. Ordered some bread with balsamic vinegar for $12.50 and got three tiny pieces of cold bread, after another hours wait, they realised they forgot our steak but didn’t acknowledge it and instead said “oh it’s being prepared now, have a wine on the house” Steak was the size of my pinky finger (cut up) surrounded by fat and barely chewable. As a main I expected it to be bigger, but that was barely a snack for over $30 Avoid this place at all costs.
Very disappointing experience at Core Restaurant. We ordered a variety of dishes and wine. The staff were not trained appropriately, or were not given the confidence and skills appropriate for their job. The pork belly was dry and the bao on top was hard and almost inedible. The duck was quite bland apart from the smoke flavour on top, same goes for the ratatouille. It was not a pleasant experience and not at all worth the price we paid. We had to come home and have another meal because the size and flavour wasn’t pleasant. We will not be returning and will not recommend this to others.
15 July went with a few friends. I ordered a pizza and a sallad asked if I could have chips on the side. The waitress seemed confused and said no payed 36 dollars pizza was soggy. Not sure if it was dressing on top told the manager to his. Credit he said he would tell the. Chef I also told the girl when I payed.. my account she said you will not have it again will you. Made me smile. Nice restaurant the others on my table liked there food

Very disappointing experience. We had to order our drinks twice and then had to wait for 20 minutes for them to arrive. The first waiter we had barely spoke English and was unfamiliar with the menu. My partner and I ordered the porterhouse steak and it had very little flavour. We left feeling very underwhelmed by the whole experience and won’t be going back. Big waste of money!

Food was fine, location is great, service is terrible. They have no table numbers on their tickets, so they bring the food past each table and ask if you've ordered it. For a table of 20 people, it took an hour from our first item coming out to the last one coming out, and they missed 2. Front of house was understaffed. Uses a different menu depending on where you sit and the day you choose to eat.
We came here on the weekend when dark mofo was happening it was saturday 10th June at lunch time. We tried two of the dark mofo cocktails, the best one was the rose one. We shared the pesto chicken pizza. It was super yummy. The restaurant it self only had 3 tables in however the service was really slow. It was hard to get the waiters attention. It took quiet a while for the cocktails to be made.
Had a really good dinner at Core tonight. The pork was really delicious and the T-bone steak was done as requested (medium). The sweet potato fries were also delicious too.. would recommend Core Restaurant for a delicious meal..

We stayed at Crowne Plaza and one of the best things for us was the restaurant at level 4. We have a baby and it is convenient to eat there and be so close to our room for his nap. We enjoyed the food, friendly staff and quick service. I had a cocktail and it was delicious.

This review is based on my fine dinning experience. Went there on my graduation day with 8 other friends and it was a disappointment. The fine dinning course taste okay, but the portion are extremely small (photos below). We went in for the 5 course at $85 per person and we ended up having to take away food from a different restaurant afterwards.
Well below average, We had the olives and sourdough to start, dry charred sourdough, no olive oil or butter for the bread. Then I had the 300g Angus steak, the flavour was ok but I am paying for it now as I sit on the porcelain throne with the most excruciating gripes in my stomach. The wait times for all meals where far to long as well.
Pleasant venue. Had the Signature beef burger. It came with warm, slightly soggy chips and tomato sauce on the side. The char grilled pattie was so charred that other flavours were lost. Have had better at Mc...... Others in party had issues too. Don't expect to be going back.

( We tried the same dish three times, one time the food is not that tasty, not sure why, other two times it's good. need to improve the consistency). Tried a few different dishes here at the lounge. The hummus with dipped veggies and turkish bread and the miso eggplant are very yummy!! Food comes fast and good service.
I went there for a Birthday, the services was excellent, very kind people, but the food is just ok, I expected something more tasty for that price . Sandwich , pizzas, pork burguer and steak are good , expensive and small portions.

Wonderful night in The Core ! The foods are lovely and over-expectation, we have the grill octopus, duck leg rillette and huon ocean trout as our entree, and the market fish and slow cooked beef brisket as out main, all of them are amazing!!!! The cocktail is lovely! We will definitely back for another day
I had the dinner here. The soup is standard, with creamy texture. And the chicken is very tender and soft. The dessert is chocolate mousse, rather creamy and tasty, it is not overly sweetened

This restaurant provides me very good quality of services and many foods. Chef and waiters were so nice. Food might be little bit expensice to compare with amount of the food, but I believe the quality is totally reasonale without doubt.

Chef of the restaurant is very good. Meals were delicious, desert especially. We enjoyed a quiet nice place with a good wine list, but servants must me trained to show the bottle first with tasting.
Food was great. Very overpriced. was delivered randomly to everyone in our party over 40minutes. I recieved my meal 20 minutes before anyone.

Disappointed. Definitely not the advertised elegant dining experience. A food court presentation and atmosphere combined with poor service. Food very overpriced - do not order sides!
Highly recommend, great location, wonderful atmosphere. The menu has a great selection and every meal is absolutely delicious. One of my favourite restaurants.
