Great experience setting up the unit and the facility itself is really nice and easily accessible. Unfortunately, the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. The website provides deals that are constantly changing, so even when you reserve a unit, the follow up emails quote you a different price. Luckily, I was able to talk to a representative and they were quite helpful with securing the original rate. When I visited the store, I paid the original rate + admin + insurance fees for the first two weeks of rental which would end the month of May. I also asked to pay for the time period up until June 18th and the rep put through an additional charge. At the beginning of June I got notified that I have an outstanding payment, I found this odd so I contacted the store to clarify what was happening. They originally said the second payment wasn’t present but then located and confirmed it. I thought the matter was settled until I got another payment text message so I repeated the call/conversation with another rep. Then I got a letter saying my payment was late and they had locked my unit. I have tried calling and emailing to get this resolved but no one can help me other than to say the manager isn’t in or it may be an issue with the system… but I need to access the unit tomorrow before 8am and they don’t open until 9am. Be very careful using this company as their hidden charges and ability to rectify discrepancies quickly leave much to be desired. *Addition #1: when I arrived this morning the same rep I spoke to last night said he spoke to the manager and they would open the locker and no additional charges were required. I wish I got his name but I appreciate his effort. Addition #2: I ended up getting another notice of late payment in the mail after all was said and done a few weeks later. I called again and spoke to Louie who looked into my account and was very helpful and reassuring that there was no outstanding balance and shared that it may be a mailing issue. He even offered to print out an account statement from his end that I could pick up so I have a record of it as well which I really appreciated. Based on the attempts by employees to rectify this issue at the store level, I increased my review to 3 stars.

March 2023 Update I called on January 10th to have my rate reduced, to be paying over $200 for the same unit that I once paid $80/month for is ridiculous. The apparently new management agreed to being my rate down to the current going rate in the area of $174 and I was ensured that this rate would include taxes and insurance (note they would not let me cancel my insurance), and that this rate would not go up. Imagine my surprise when my next bill came in and it was $192, not $174 December 2022 update: Another rate increase, I am now paying $208 for a space that I was once paying $80 for APRIL 29, 2022 UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW - MY UNIT COST JUST WENT UP AGAIN, I AM NOW PAYING $192 AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED STAY TUNED AS MY RATES CONTINUE TO CLIMB FOR THE SAME SPACE AND SERVICE This place is an absolute rip off and this whole storage industry needs price control. They increase their prices every 6 months, I started here in 2018 with a 10x5 outdoor unit and paid $80/month. Now, in the same unit my rate has climbed to $176.96 per month. My service hasn't improved, my space hasn't increased..Nothing has changed except that I'm getting robbed. Twice yearly increases like this can not be justified. I phoned to see about dropping my rate, their suggestion was to cancel my current unit and get a new contract for a new unit at the current rate of $110/month but I will still be hit with increased rates twice a year. This company is terrible do NOT rent from them.

I am writing this to inform new clients that Olivia is a apperently the “supervisor” is unprofessional unkind and just rude and condescending. Olivia called me to inform she was going to put my storage unit in auction because I am late and I unable due to personal difficulties. I won’t be able to make payment until this Friday yes in two days. Not next month two days. She told she was cutting my lock which I paid over $15 at there location. Too have my two children & I things go to auction. When I asked to speak too the district manger I was told she wasn’t in the bulging when I asked to speak too the owner of Smart Stop I was told to call the toll free number. This company has been nothing but an unprofessional experience. They promoted me 50% off my storage when I first moved in Sept 27 2018. I was told I would be covered till October 27 2018 which was a lie. I paid for the last few days of September and was bill 4 days later of $120 for the month of October. I explained to them that I was misinformed by your staff. Nothing was done to clear it except the last fees for the month of October were removed. I was to pay Oct 27,2018 but due my situation I was unable and can’t pay anything until THIS FRIDAY. Which brings me back to Olivia and her unprofessional treatment toward myself and my situation. I am going to pay Friday and get my things out before the month of December arises. WORST BUSINESS I HAVE ENCOUNTERED WITH STAY AWAY

The young lady who assisted us over the phone was absolutely wpmderful and could not have been more helpful and attentive to our needs. She was able to make the whole process of getting the unit very simple. Unfortunately we are now in to our rental a month and the I am absolutely horrified at the treatment that the customers are getting at this location and the poor staff who are at the desk have no control on the matter and are being yelled at. They (Head Office) decided it would be a great time to resurface the lot this week. The end of the month when people are trying to get into there units because of moving etc... We rented a unit one month ago so when we were ready to move this weekend we had a unit. That's not happening and it is now going to cost hundreds of dollars to work around the situation they have created. Did they inform us they were going to be doing it. NO. Did they take our money, YES. Will anyone from Head Office return my calls. OF COURSE THEY WONT. Absolutely disgusted at the corporate greed and the lack of customer service.

First the good - the staff at Mainway location in Burlington are genuine, pleasant, knowledgeable and eager to assist (Anthony, Julia and Samantha to name a few). 5 stars for them!! But the company? First - my rates went from $214 (initial 1 month discounted rate that went to regular $240). Flash forward less than one year and that rate became $340. That is a RIDICULOUS increase in that span of time. Add that I had a second unit which also increased and I’m paying $540 for 200 Sq/ft total ($27 sq/ft) Now here’s the rub - I go there in October 2022 and am one of MANY locked out of accessing because their auto payment ON ONLY ONE of my spaces has stopped working when THEY did a change over to a new system. At the time I’ve paid TWICE OVER THE PHONE WITH THE SAME CREDIT CARD AND ASKED THEM TO REINSTATE (it can’t work for one unit and not the other!!). They finally get it together, but were charging me late fees for THEIR “system upgrade” mistake. And that Unit that continued to work for auto charge - I haven’t received an invoice since October 2022!

Don't believe the positive reviews. Rent upped over 40% in 15 months! What they don't tell you is how they jack the rent 20%± every 6 months once you move your stuff in. Started at $172 in January 2022, went to $216 in August 2022 and now just got a new notice for March 2023 that it's going to $246 and this is for a 10x10 outdoor unit. That's an increase of 40.7% in a little over a year. Show me where your costs have risen to that degree and I will have no problem paying the up charge. I understand we are in an inflation market but 40% guys? That's not inflation, that's taking advantage of long term customers. Shame on you and your business practices! Made 2 phone calls at other establishments and found a much better price in Oakville, where it should be more expensive. My advice to potential customers... Do you research, there are better & cheaper places to go. Skip this place all together...

Been at this place for many years and it has been recently taken over by a new company. The rates went up immediately and have continued to do so every six months for no reason. This storage facility used to be climate-controlled and this was also immediately stopped under the new management. Freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer. They deny this is the case but I can clearly tell from coming there for many years. Everytime I come to pay my bill they always happen to be out on lunch. People working there now are very rude and arrogant. I've witnessed other customers as well being totally mistreated. Storage doors are many times broken. Stay very far away from this place. They are out to scam you and service has been totally downgraded . Would rate it zero if possible. There is only one way for this place to go in the very near future, and that is down.

DO NOT RENT with this company, they cannot be trusted. I moved in to a unit in July 2020, six months ago at a rate of $106.00. + tax × ins ($129). As of Jan 1 rent has increased to $124 + tax + ins ($150). A 17% price hike after 6 months. I spoke to management who told me a units price is reviewed every 6 months and is subject to increase at the managers discretion with 30 days written notice. They gave ne no assurance that in 6 months I wouldnt see another 17% increase Their rate was competitive but not under market in July. At 17% in 6 months that is effectively a 35% annual increase. This is PREDATORY PRICING they expect to get away with because of the cost and inconvenience of moving. I HAVE USED STORWELL STORAGE IN THE PAST. 3 YEARS NO INCREASE. I RENTED FROM SMARTSTOP ONLY FOR THE LOCATION WHEN I RECENTLY MOVED. I WILL BE LEAVING.

This place has MICE!! We have tried to contact Managememt for months and received the response that mice infestation isn’t their problem. We are so disgusted. Our personal items, bedding, clothes, shoes, baby blankets and toys were all infested with dead mice, poo and nests. Our large furniture items were chewed up and mice poo throughout. We’ve spent thousands of dollars cleaning, dry cleaning and throwing out items that could not be saved. We only requested a refund for our two rental units and coverage for our dry cleaning bills and our requests have been ignored. Absolutely , do not leave your personal items here !!!

Costumer service (or lack there of) provided by Olivia was incredibly unimpressive. As a supposed “supervisor”, the way you act and treat people is pathetic and personally, if I was your manager, you would be out of a job because there are PLENTY of other people that would be nicer, happier and NOT be so rude to people that are quite literally paying for your position. She was SO demeaning and ignorant in her tone and showed ZERO sympathy even while I was trying to fix the situation. Will never EVER bring any buisness here again nor will I be recommending this monstrosity of a business to anyone else.

Had my rent more than double since moving into this place. Moved my stuff out and they still charged me $10 for a month I wasn't even there. So if the owner wants to reply about your company's top notch service.. everyone who works for you says their hands are tied. Probably should give them a call and ask them what happened. Or contact me yourself. They have my number. Until then enjoy the last $10 you will ever get from me. This company is great at passing the buck and blaming head office. Head office doesn't care and apparently no one else does who works there.

I just finished getting Set up with my unit at Appleby Line and Mainway in Burlington Ontario ... I dealt with Eva on Saturday June 26 at a few minutes to closing...Even though it was near closing she never made me feel that I was imposing...she did a good deal of the paper work to reserve a unit for me ... it would be completed Sunday Morning with Leanhy..I must apologize if I misspelled her name Leanhy...what a wonderful person to deal with...made sure all details were clear and that I was satisfied with all areas of concern!.Great Customer service !

I came in one day for a tour for day because I was looking for a local place to store my stuff because I was moving, and the moving process was happening faster than I was expecting. And all the employees seemed really nice and patient with me while I was under a lot of stress with trying to figure out how fast and a safe place I can store my stuff. I also really loved how clean the place was. When you walk in it, it smells like fresh soap like it’s cleaned after every customer/client which is fantastic right now during a pandemic. Highly recommend 10/10

DO NOT RENT from this place. Had large unit long term (2+yrs) at full price. Had to vacate due to emergency situation and they did not pro rate the rental and offer refund back. Read their unfair policies before signing the agreement, basically gives no forgiveness for breaking agreement, you will be charged in full for a month even if you just used a day. Found evidence of rodent infestation in my unit so suspect other nearby units have same issue too. Be careful renting from this organization as they have several locations.

I got a storage unit on Mainway in Burlington and Laeya totally rocked the front counter. She knew the contract like the back of her hand and walked me through it so even a dummy like me. Would understand. She then gave me the grand tour of the facility while she showed me to my unit. She was super helpful in getting the right sized boxes for what what I needed and she was sweet as pie the entire time. This little chick is a gem. Somebody get this girl a raise!!!

I am relatively new to self storage, however, I have been to the locations of many companies over the years. I must say that Appleby Self Storage has, by far, the cleanest facility. It is privately owned and you can tell the difference - the staff there truly go out of their way to make you feel valued and that you have everything you need. My suggestion is that you at least call or check out either location - I haven't found a better self-storage company.

We were selling our house and needed somewhere to put all of our "extra" belongings so that our home could be staged to sell. I cam in person and the two employees were amazing - they showed me an indoor unit with easy access. It was clean, temperature controlled, and secure. We even got an excellent deal - much better than any other storage facility in Burlington. Excellent business!

This place is horrible. Fluctuating prices and sketchy customer service. Do not store here as one month you may be charged $80 and the next $2000 because of their horrid management and inability to manage a payment system/schedule. Company deserves to be out of business for the inconsistency in prices and poor treatment of customers. Horrible.

We had to get storage for selling our home. Started with one unit to store for staging, then another unit to store the remaining contents inbetween houses for a week. Eva and Christina were both extremely helpful! Excellent service! And the best price we found around the area. 10/10 recommend!

Easy, safe access. The attendants were very friendly and helpful despite them being so shorthanded. They are changing access procedures which is a problem because I have units in two locations and only one of them accepts the new change. But I'm sure that will be corrected soon.
