This review is long overdue, but hopefully still useful to others. Myself and a few family members rented a car from this location back in December 2022, i.e., the dead of winter in Edmonton. Upon arrival to the location, found out they had a car for me, but if we wanted winter tires on the car, it would cost extra. For anyone who knows anything about Edmonton and winter, making winter tires optional is INSANE. So yes, of course we opted for the winter tires for an extra cost. Because it was winter, they also said they couldn't clean the car because it would freeze, so we were given a fairly dirty vehicle. Not the worst, but it's a small attention to detail that didn't bode well for how the rest of the operation is run. They gave us two key fobs, but for some illogical reason, bound both of them together with a metal clasp and crimped it. We needed wire cutters to separate the clasp - who thought of this idea to give two fobs that are inseparable without special tools?? Finally, the car didn't have a box heater - again, really strange considering it was -40 for the week we were there, and that wouldn't be an oddity for Edmonton any other year either. Here's where Hertz really went from a 2 or 3 star review to a 1-star. Our car got vandalized one of the nights we were out. Thankfully, my credit card provided me with insurance, so all I had to do was report the damage and return the car to Hertz at the end of my time as expected. Easy, right? Well Hertz is the most difficult, frustrating company to deal with when things go wrong. They warned me I would get a "bill" after the car went through repairs, which I could then report to my insurance to get reimbursed. Well, instead of a bill, I started getting charged close to $100/night for "overdue return". No one at this location picks up the phone - I called countless times and could never get through. I had to eventually figure out I needed to go through a different phone number to get in touch with a Hertz claims department that informed me that they just never verified I had returned the car. Thankfully, I had taken pics of everything and kept copies where I could, including the return and damage report I submitted within the office. I don't know what would happen to those who don't keep records or think ahead to take pictures. It took a solid month or so of calling different phone numbers every day trying to track down the right individuals who handled my claim and to get a claim number before I finally had all the documents I needed for my insurance, and for them to stop billing my card on a nightly basis (to be fair, they stopped billing after a week or so after I phoned in and told them I had the receipts). The staff at this location were nice, friendly, and helpful in person, but my God I would never deal with this company again. So many annoying issues up front, and so much downright incompetence on the backend when things go wrong.

My wife already wrote a bad review, but I have to say it again . Terrible customer service, the counter service said call customer service and they will fix issue, then customer service said they can't fix it only the counter can ... lol so which is it ....my wife and I (yes married) booked a vehicle with my CC and she used her drivers license, when we got there they said we weren't allowed to do that and we have to cancel and wait 10 days for a return or just be out 100 dollars from our online booking and book again in my name ... every other car rental place we have booked with we simply add the other driver when we are there , but Hertz refused and said its against their policy, even though we are married and will both be driving the car , that they could not process our reservation because we had her license with my CC.. the staff then said its in your email agreement. I opened the agreement right in front of him and there is no where that it says the license that booked the car must match the CC..... the staff refused to look at the agreement after I read it and told him to read it ... worst customer service ever ..guess we will stick with Enterprise since they have no issue simply adding a driver upon arrival and showing the CC...

DISASTER - do NOT rent from this family business location. They are AWFUL - liars and thieves! We confirmed our booking day of, by phone, but were refused the car we booked upon arrival to their location and were forced into a half-charged Tesla Y (which i made a full case against, based on our well articulated client needs - our booking was for a mid range gas powered car, needing to get all the way to Calgary for a wedding on a tight timeline from out of province, without available time to stop and recharge). They lied, cheated right from the beginning and now have charged my credit card an additional day claiming that is "their process" because they were closed that day - not told this in advance at all, had no idea they would be closed, had it back early and thankfully took tons of photos for my own peace of mind but wow charged an entire extra day - we were back early the day we were supposed to, by contract, be back! They won't let us speak to the "manager" and he won't phone us back. We are out over $120 plus major frustration and inconvenience!!! These people do not care about their customers. STAY AWAY!!! If I can save YOU your money, time, effort, and mood, this review is worth it. Peace ✌️

My boyfriend paid over 3k for a 6 week rental. There was a small ding on the front driver side fender, which was barely noticeable and he found it when we came out of a store parked in a parking lot. He was honest and he filled out a report for it. He requested to be called to discuss paying for the damages or going through insurance, depending on the amount. A week later there is a charge of over 4600 and another 200 dollar charge ONTOP of the 3100 rental charge which we were told WOULD NOT go over 3800 including the rental cost. NOW we are unable to get a hold of anyone and they are scamming us out of thousands of dollars that we cannot afford!! Everytime we talked to these people the price went up a few hundred dollars and in person they would be super nice and then go behind our backs and charge us more! Make sure you get any quotes in writing as this place won’t hesitate to scam you. They will try to make money off of every charge and take advantage of any situation. We are taking further action right away. Not an honourable and ethical business, do not trust them!

Picking Up Vehicle. To start with, the guys won't pick me up because I live 2.9 miles away and its way too far for them. When I reached there by myself, the guys seemed startled how I get good deal (I got $10 discount on three days rent). They wanted to see my corporate I.Ds to know how I get the discount. The Indian guy made it clear that unless I show him "proofs" that I got genuine discount he will reverse the discount and charge me some $150 extra (although I got only $10 in discounts). One star for vehicle pick up experience. Vehicle Return. On vehicle return the guy seemed a little bit eased up. He accepted my "proof" of genuine discount, and somehow offered me to drop me home which they previously said is too far away (10 mins drive). Three star for vehicle return experience, on average two star for whole experience. By the way the vehicle itself was not bad though its wipers won't work properly and made a mess instead of clearing the wind shield. I shall update my ratings if I visit them again.

I have dealt with hertz a couple of times..my first experience was fantastic..friendly and professional. My second experience was also good..I wanted to change pickup locations. I was told it is difficult if I had prepaid for my car on priceline. But he made it work. He told me it wasn't a problem to change locations for pickup as long as I gave some notice and did not pre pay. He was friendly and professional. My most previous experience was not good. I once again booked through priceline and couldn't find the location I wanted. So I gave them a call and explained. The man I spoke to told me I couldn't do it..I was trying to explain that I was told previous that I could, and he was laughing at me while I was talking. He then told me to call the day I am to pick up to so he's not wasting my time on the phone with me now. We'll I canceled the entire thing and I will never use Hertz again! Teach your employees to not laugh at a customer while they are talking! Rude!!!!

I recently rented a car from Hertz and had an awesome experience thanks to Moe and his team! From the moment I walked in, they were super friendly and helpful. They listened to what I needed and didn't try to push me into anything I didn't want. We rented Tesla and the car itself was really nice - it was clean, smelled fresh, and drove smoothly. I didn't have any problems with it during my rental period. The pickup and drop-off process was also really easy and convenient. Moe and his team made sure everything went smoothly, and I appreciated that they took the time to explain everything clearly. Overall, I would definitely recommend Hertz Car Rental and Moe's team to anyone looking for a rental car. They were professional, efficient, and just really nice people. Thanks again, Hertz and Moe, for making my rental experience a positive one!

Renters Beware got a rental through the car dealership. when I first I picked up the truck they didn't clean the inside even though they called it sterilization. found dirt on the dash, and the floor was dirty, even parts of the outside was not very clean. When they did the walk through for damages the gentleman took less then 30 sec. once I dropped it off they took 3-4 min looking it over. then the want to charge me for a xhip on the windshield. I asked for the windshield policy and they gave me the generic policy. I had to look it up online. found any chip under 2mm was not charged. they wouldnt come out to measure it with me and said that's not their policy. even though its was directlyoff the Hertz website. they do not follow franchise rules and gouge on the own. I will never return to that location

Horrible experience with them. Hertz are scammer and it's not the only time they steal my money. We rent the car for a week until noon. Then I returned the car one hour late but for a reason.. because I would like to extend ! And what happen ? They charged me 62$ because of late return ? But why ? I currently extend the rental so I am not late !!! But in any case, I tried to explain them that they are really stupid to charge people late fees if they extend but they said it's the politic of Hertz. So Hertz has a politic of scammers ! They just steal your money and say that with a big smile ? Sorry staff is not friendly but just really stupid. Even the manager do nothing for us. They just think about their money and are really not customer oriented. Go to hell

Stealing money from me by charging me extra $600 for windshield crack that came from a chip that was pre existing. Even took pictures the day after getting the vehicle because the guy who did our walk around did not see the chips because it was dark outside. Only saw it the next day during daylight and wanted proof in case they tried to charge me. Said there were no chips reported on previous inspections, even though there was speedy glass on the chip that caused the crack. Took a week of calling every day to finally speak to the manager, who told me the crack didn't come from the chip I took pictures of. SAFE TO SAY DONT GO HERE. No moral compass charging a student during a pandemic $600 that she should not be liable for.

Watch out when renting. They will claim the fuel is full and then charge you more. I drove the vehicle approx 15-20 kms but then was charged over 20 for fuel for a small Nissan. No way did I use that amount of fuel nor did the digital gauge even move to indicate a lower fuel amount. Tried calling the location 3 times, got out on hold each time and one point spend over 30 minutes on hold. Emailed customer service and now trying to get this escalated. It’s the principle that isn’t acceptable. I only used them because they were on location at Toyota on the trail for warranty work. If I were them I’d consider which rental you partner with when it comes to third party rentals.

5 stars isn’t enough for this place, should be more! Great place, friendly staff and never had an issue. Mohamud Yusuf, the manager, is a great and awesome guy, will always accommodate you! If you’re unsure which vehicle is best to use, you can always ask him, he has great knowledge with the vehicles, from cars all the way to pick up trucks! These guys has always gone beyond my expectations every visit, and will always continue to stop in occasionally! Definitely a go-to place if you’re planning on having a vehicle while your car is getting extended serviced, repaired from a collision or simply heading out of town for a few days! Great service, no complaints!

Worst customer service ever ! My husband and I made a reservation under my name with his credit card online and we paid in full. We were both there to pick the car up and they refused to rent it to us because of the person who booked (me) and credit card name (my husband) aren't the same person. They wouldn't add him to the reservation and said we had to book a new car and wait ten business days to get the money we had prepaid already. We have rented from many other car rentals places and we've always done it this way including from Hertz in B.C. Also it was not written in the agreement we were emailed. So they added all this extra stress on a already stressful day !

My cousin just rented a 2020 Corolla from May 28th at 9:30am until June 12th @ 4:00 pm. Apart from receiving a top-of-the-line vehicle (trust me, I rent vehicles all the time for work, this vehicle was very nice), the staff at this location were very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. She had to reach out to the branch twice and both times they were hassle-free, straight forward and very helpful. She spoke with / was assisted by Mohamud, Patel and Summit at this location (Edmonton south 8624 53 Ave NW). If you want to rent a vehicle at a great rate and have a great customer experience, check them out!

I am surprise there are a few very bad ratings because my experience with this Hertz Car Rental location was excellent! I rented a Toyota Corolla for one day and the gentleman assisting me was extremely accommodating and helpful! Since I have a German drivers license it was a bit more complicated but he did everything to make it as easy and hasslefree as possible. The car I was given was in excellent condition from the outside to the inside to the feeling of driving it. I was very satisfied with my experience and if I ever needed to rent a car again I would most definitely come back!

I usually dealt with one of the competitors , I had needed a vehicle one time and in the whole city this place was the only rental place with anything so i reserved a vehicle thru their app and made my way there apon arrival they guys at the counter welcomed me and started on the paperwork for the rental the whole process was painless and experience was better than anticipated everyone was friendly , professional and they don't waste any time . Two months following the first transaction I returned once sometimes twice a week for a vehicle . Keep up the good work guys . Thanks again

I rented a vehicle from this location for two days. One thing I notice was the “vehicle” was not cleaned properly and the customer service to obtain that vehicle was not pleasant. On the day of return I got charged an extra day. I was shocked, specially in an environment where covid-19 is hurting everyone. I just want to make an awareness this company seems unprofessional, don’t have a moral compass and would exploit people. So frustrating that hertz managers would do this (Unprofessional). No wonder hertz is declaring bankruptcy or maybe they want to exploit the government.

I enjoyed going to this location. The staff was very accommodating. He was a Asian gentlemen that helped us was very good. He went above and beyond in searching for a bigger car for us to make sure all of us fit. Called the west end location to make sure they had one available and upgraded us at no charge. Which we greatly appreciated. Thank you. The only reason I gave them a 4 star out of a 5 was because there was no vehicle walk through done for us which made us a bit uneasy as we did not want to be charged for something that we did not damage.

Mohamed Yusuf is the manager and not the most professional guy. Not proactive as a manager. He would rather let the vehicle stay onsite rather then rent it out . My the situation is the online booking as a gold member showed lower rate then this location. I asked if I can take the vehicle, they refused because I wasn’t willing to pay double . The funny part is the vehicle ended staying parked for two days Of the weekend. Rodriguez, the other employee as stated the quality of service depends on the duration of the rental.

Clean Car but slow check in. I went in they gave me the wrong different keys and different car. Then when i was about to drive away they came out quickly and said this is the wrong car they gave me took another 10 mins to get me to the right car. People working their needs to put attention in details. Overall it was good. Only thing cannot return car on Sunday. Other rental companies you can drop the car. Hertz needs to change their stupid policy. Even if you drop keys on Sunday. Its not registered until Monday. Stupid.

We've always gotten good service and great pricing here. Recommended. We rent here several times per year and the staff at this location always take good care of us. They are even proactive about finding us the best deal/discount. My only complaint is that they don't always have a large selection of vehicles on site so if your rental is spur of the moment, you may have to take what you can get. However, if you book ahead they can usually arrange to have whatever you want ready for you.

Terrible experience called dozen times for update on my situation no call back everytime I go over 6 times now manager isn't around. Now they charged my credit card nearly $700 with no explanation. Initially they attempted lower amounts which I was able to block as I wanted to understand what the charges were for. Still calling daily to get any information I would never rent a vehicle from this location ever again and hopefully no one else does and gets essentially ripped off

We rented a Jeep online, and when we got there they said well I hope you don't need winter tires lol! Like yes we do because it's winter... so they charged us an additional $120 just to have winter tires. And we didn't even get a jeep in the end. My wife was frustrated because they were being so rude to us, and someone told her to "calm down" like um misogynist micro aggression much?? Highly recommend you don't use this place

Reserved a vehicle as my wife's car was going in for repairs. When I called back to pick up the car, I was told they no longer had anything for me. When I asked why they didn't hold it for me, as they said they were going to, they hung up on me mid sentence. I would rather walk than do business with them ever again. I would also strongly recommend avoiding them. Enterprise was more than helpful, try them instead

Booked a car rental for 8 AM. I got to the location at 7:55 AM and walked inside. No one was at the desk and I could hear voices in the back. I shouted "hello" a couple of times and no one came out front. 10 minutes later, someone came out and was talking on a cellphone. He continued to speak on the cellphone while trying to assist me. He told me the car wasn't ready yet. Ended up being 30 minutes late.

I booked my car in the morning, and told them I would be by at 530 to pick it up. when I got to hertz there was one customer in front of me. it took the guy an hour to get these people a car and they are return customers! I used to work for a car rental company, to make a person wait an hour for a car they have already booked is unacceptable. terrible service, it would be more convenient to take the bus

The customer service at this location needs to act more professional. I called and asked for adjustments and the guy said to cancel it yourself and redo the reservation. Then I cancelled and was not able to get a new reservation. When called back the guy said that I cannot help you! The name of the customer service rep was Muhammed as far as I recall. What a disappointment at this location!

They gave us a car with bald all season tires on one of the worst weeks of winter in Edmonton. My husband who is a very, very comfortable driver, was unable to drive the crapwagon of slideyMcBullshit they gave us. When we returned it early and explained why they did not care at all and told us that the car was from Vancouver and that's just our luck. We will never use this company again.

Not impressed with the "like for like" truck given to me. The F-150 that was given to me was dirty, dinged up, and scratched to hell. The inside stunk so bad of masked cigarette smoke it was almost unbearable. The motor knocks and sounds like its going to implode every time its started, and the transmission slams gears. Completely unacceptable, will not be using Hertz ever again.

I reserved a midsize vehicle for a month and they gave me a small car told me they'd call me when something else was in. I drove by a week later and their lot was full so I called and they said nothing was available. Paid for midsize pricing and charged me for a detailing too. Returned the vehicle and once again... full lot... Not ever coming back. Enterprise all the way.

Received excellent service from Nadeem and team. I believe Nadeem cares for his client and tries his best to help them. I rented car for one week received flawless service. Car was clean and freshly shampooed. I was visiting from toronto for my visit to Banff and Jasper with my family and received warm welcome by Nadeem. Checking out was also easy and convinient

I will never rent from here again, staff doesn’t know their own policies about cash returns and I have to wait 2 weeks + for my cash back!!! Pathetic. And a year later I still haven't received my money! I don't dare call the customer service number again! Idiot's there like in there shops are a bunch of brainless morons that will screw you over!

Unprofessional. There were cracks in windshield before we drove off and they told us they inspected the vehicle and they didn’t write down anything on their report. So they are scamming us out of insurance after we showed proof of cracks through pictures in their parking lot before we drove off. Terrible company I wouldn’t recommend

The service at this location was impeccable, the process of getting the car was quick and I loved how they send pictures of the car after inspection. Returning the car was hassle free with no hidden fees. The manager was very accommodating and helpful. I‘ll definitely use Hertz car rental again and will recommend it to anyone.

DONT GO HERE! Awful customer service! Car felt awful to drive and when we called to complain they just said "oh we don't have any cars left". They don't care about safety or customer service. It smelled like cigarettes and they were incredibly rude even tho we tried being understanding. Don't know how they're still in service.

We picked up a Dodge Caravan from here for the May (2021) long weekend. We were immensely and thoroughly happy with the smiling and courteous staff member. The worst customer service ever. Never go there. Bunch of unprofessional people. Trust me. I just had a very bad experience with them. I'll file a complaint to the headquarter now. I specifically mean the office in Edmonton, Alberta located at 86 st and 53 ave. Very unprofessional in dealing with people. So disappointed!

Terrible customer service. The only employee there was unwilling to help us and was, quite frankly, extremely rude. He would barely listen to the instructions given to him by employees from other Hertz locations, causing confusion and stress or everyone involved. Don’t go to this location, it’s awful.

0.5 star because the guy I spoke to on July 29th had so much attitude over the phone. I called to ask how much extra it would cost to keep the car for 1 more day and he took really loud deep breaths throughout the call, sighed and sounded like I was begging to use his personal car for free.

They were great to deal with from start to finish. The vehicle we rented was exceptionally clean and was thw same as want we rented online. No hidden fees and everything was up front. They even send you pictures on the vehicle when you go and inspect it when picking it up. Good job Hertz

Terrible Terrible service. I got the rental through Toyota and they slipped past me the prepaird fuel option without asking me. The charged me 30$ for the car I brought back with full tank after making me wait for 45 minutes to get the car they were supposed to have for me ready.

Louis is definitely THE best customer service rep that I've ever interacted with both in person and over the phone. He thoroughly explained everything and diminished all of my rental-related concerns. Hertz is quite lucky to have him! 5 stars for the customer service.

Great service. But hey, why does your Google Map address direct to that stupid 800 phone number. Make it the local phone number please. Why? Because I needed to make changes to my rental plans and that 1-800 dead-ended to Thrifty car rental.

We reserved a different SUV from Thrifty and they didnt have it anymore when we got there. They were accommodating enough to give us a 2019 Van (Sienna) which was perfect for our needs. Great van with cruise control. Very easy to maneuver.

Ordered an all wheel drive SUV. Got there they only had a front wheel drive van with all season tires. Not the greatest choice to head to the mountains in.

For paying nearly $300 dollars to rent a car, it was very frustrating to have to deal with a very loud vibration in the car. Im surprised it wasn’t tested.

Check everything from brakes to dents before taking the car. Be extra careful and have them note down even the minor issues. they will lie to your face
